*Sip* Yeah...... Is Anyone Else Disappointed With the Direction that Vertical Shooters took? Back In The Good Old Days.... We used to have Real Shooters like Xenon 2...... Raptor...... Tyrian..... Nowadays it's all of this "Bullet Hell" nonsense where They Just Put A billlion Shots On Screen To Troll you and Get You Off Of the Arcade Cabinet... Except There Is No Arcade Cabinet So You just Stop Playing the Game.

I don't play shmups often but I've been trying to beat Batsugun Special, which is supposed to be one of the easier ones but I suck ass lmao
>>
>>12019801
Joke's on you. I enjoy both Tyrian and Touhou. I just like shmups.
>>
>>12019801
Even worse, they made a rule that you have to ram into bullets and die of course to win. How retarded degenerate you have to be, this rabbit hole of shittification have no bottom.

For some reason I thought option hunters were disabled during boss fights. I never had one appear during them.

To the 5 other people playing Gradius V: we should all have a Gradius-off. Whoever gets the 1-ALL first (Normal, default points threshold) gets a drawing of their choice drawn by everyone else.
I want porn of those eye things on stage 4 who ahegao when their health is low.

If someone already beat me then I quit video games forever.

>>12020147
Also this is the farthest I've ever made it on 1 credit.
This guy isn't even hard I just messed up there should be double the amount of wacky lasers and an even tighter arena.
>>
>>12020153
Oh and the narrator said "What the hell?" when I died here lol.
Never heard that one before.
>>
>>12020153
I played last thread for the sake of doing the boss everyone was talking about, but I already 1-ALL'd it. Not sure if I can do it with the direction ship tho.
>>
>>12020157
I just deleted the game and emulator.

Why did I even bother?
>>
>>12020161
Lol. It's a PS2 game of course people already played it and probably got 1ccs before.
>>
>>12020162
So I might be the only who started from square one?
Willpower recovering steadily.
>>
>>12020168
Maybe. I played it years ago on console myself and am rusty as shit but I still vaguely remember the stages and things I practiced a lot like stage 7.
>>
>>12020168
You should stop comparing yourself so much to other people. Everyone learns at their own pace and compared to world record players we are all shit at it anyway.
>>
>>12020168
>So I might be the only who started from square one?
I know the game since years already but only really started playing it a few weeks ago. Only made it to stage 5 and switched to an other game. Now I'm back at it and can make it to stage 7. I've already watched better players on it, that's why I already knew the save spot for stage 7 mid-boss.
>>
>>12020206
Getting to Stage 7 is pretty good, but do practice 5 and 6 too in order to reduce misses. If you get to play stage 7 with most extra lives you are very close to clearing the game.
>>
>>12020216
Sure, just practiced stage 5 boss yesterday again. Stage 5 boss has a lot of luck involved because it's very random if you can squeeze through everything. Probably also should practice stage 6 boss again. The stage is not too bad anymore.
>>
>>12020243
You are getting there, now enjoy the real suffering of constantly doing tiny mistakes during the real runs even in things you had practiced a million times, then suddenly everything clicks and before you realize what's going on you find yourself no missing stage 7.
>>
>>12020254
I've already cleared much harder runs, I know how it works already. The game is just so long and the beginning kind of gets annoying. Maybe I will switch to freeze too. The game is definitely easier with it.
>>
Imo, they should have scratched the whole time travel - killing the eyes simultaneously - thing. It makes the game too long, the beginning too annoying, and it even takes away from the climax at the end. Stage 7 should be the final stage.
>>
>>12020280
I liked the time travel stuff though. Stage 8 is a glorified victory lap anyway and so is the final boss in all Gradius games anyways
>>
Earthion just had version 3.3.0 released.
>>
>>12020306
>I liked the time travel stuff though.
It's just back to the Future, but in Gradius.
>Marty, we have to go back in time!
>>
Even the eye destroying thing is like Back to the Future, when Doc and Marty have to do stuff at the clock tower simultaneously to get enough electricity for the Delorean
>>
>>12020206
>watched better players
I'm debating doing that myself but I've already gotten this far to stage 7, figuring out every boss and weird stage situation on my own power. Even the stupid poorly designed rolling stage 6 boss I know how to do now.
Just ignore those turrets completely and trace the boss' path with your options. The turrets shoot slow as shit anyway.

I'm up to stage 7 on 1 credit without any outside help. I'll try to keep it that way for now.
>>
>>12020790
Best of luck. Throw yourself in the stage select and don't worry too much about being perfect in stage 7, it will be easier to improve the previous stages instead. You can get like 3/4 extra lives iirc?

>>12020796
Haha, that's just a fix for runtime glyph insertion.
So given that you play with the emulator on a certain platform they want the correct symbol to appear, say a + for the Nintendo Switch.

I'm actually pretty glad they held off with the Genesis cartridge, as there's been quite a few fixes since the first release.
>>
>>12021175
Huh?
I'm saying it should say "push" instead of "press".
>>
>>12020790
>I'm up to stage 7 on 1 credit without any outside help. I'll try to keep it that way for now.
Congrats. It's not like the game is very complicated anyway. I was just taking inspirations for the bouncing laser boss. That's the only part which is really difficult.

qrd on this upcoming shmup streaming event. Anything interesting? I see some western players listed there.
>>
>>12021240
Yeah I'm sure the game isn't very difficult if you "take inspiration" from everyone else and do nothing yourself.
>>
>>12021296
Oh nvm, it's already happening.
>>
>>12021307
I was just watching a person playing the game before I even started playing it myself and could remember that there was a better strat for the boss you fucking retard. Some people actually play these games, obviously not you.

Spent one hour yesterday routing stage 5 of R-Type 2. Brutal af but extremely rewarding and well designed. Just as good if not better than the first game
>>
>>12021415
Don't reply. That guy tries to start shit with anyone and especially people who are playing.
>>
>>12019854
This may sound pretentious, but are you actually trying to beat it? Like yeah it's relatively simple but if you don't know basic things like "oh if I just tap to the side once every time the boss shoots I can avoid this whole pattern without even really paying attention" then it would be much tougher than it has to be. Like you can't just passively overcome a lot of shmups by beating your head against the wall.
>>
>>12021307

What's your goal? If you just want to have fun, watching replays is boring, yeah. But if you're just aiming for a clear for whatever reason like for a tournament, it's the correct move.
>>
>>12021467
I'm trying to beat it but I haven't really been watching youtube videos to learn shit like that
>>

>>
>>12022142
Do those videos really say anything worthwhile if I am somebody who can already get CAVE 1ccs?
>>
>>12022668
Definitely no, but presumably you aren't getting cave 1ccs if you can't beat batsugun special.
>>
>>12022731
NTA obviously. Sometimes I'm missing obvious shit, as in when I watch replays after the deed is done I find out there were much easier ways to beat some parts. Not talking about sitting in a safespot mind you
>>
Understandable, have a nice day.
Error screen from the Saturn version, first time seeing it.
>>
Why is Iceman considered harder? Seems just as good as the other ships.
>>
>>12021183
I mean, having a bit of engrish in your wapanese game should be fine (and welcome!).

I hate the speed section in gradius 5. The last part is just silly. And when you die there you most likely die twice in a row, and then again at the bouncing laser boss because you have no power ups anymore.

If I just had a few more bombs when I got here I probably would've had it...
>>
>>12025015
Honestly, Jupiter seems like the hardest thing in the game... this final boss was decently easy to dodged, but I fucked up under pressure. Also I panic bombed too much throughout stage 5, but I learned you get a shitton of points for doing that at the end section with all those moving turret ball things. There's only one extend in this game though so it doesn't really matter for purposes of clearing.
>>
>>12024767
You need more practice bro.
I just got it again from being rusty in 3 attempts.
>>
I have no idea how the hell I'm supposed to do the part with the red laser enemies with direction but I guess you can just shield tank it.
https://streamable.com/5yysmq
>>
>>12025060
It's a stupid section. The walls are random, the whole section is fast, and you have to upwards. I can't even see what is really going on at the end.
>>
>>12025117
Wall layout is always the same so you can remember that. Timing seems to depend on rank
>>
>>12025117
Anyway idk if you already know that, but in >>12025103 you can see something I always try to do with the walls in Gradius/Parodius games. Basically I wait in front of them and tap left until they open
>>
>>12025015
Watched a video and learned that there's a safe-spot for the first part of this fight. Will try that next time.
>>
>>12025015
Also does anyone know why this Bitwave port always randomly gives a random amount of points to P2 in the overlay?
>>
>>12025269
Probably reading garbage data the game stores in the P2 score address while you are playing solo.
>>
What were the developers of 1942 thinking when they decided that the game would have 32 levels? Was it a conscious decision? Or did they just do something without worrying about anything?
>>
>>12025521
It's a 1 hour game. Kinda long but it's not crazy difficult or anything.
>>
>>12019801
You got any gameplay clips, Tyrianfag?
>>
>>12025579
NTA but I'm less willing to 1cc a long but easy game than a very hard but short one.
