Never played a FF game in my life. This a good game to start with?
>>12019841If your objective in playing a Final Fantasy game is to play the whole series then start with the first game.If your objective in playing a Final Fantasy game is to play a game you are interested in playing then pick any game.
If you want less talking and more fighting, play V. If you want more talking, play VI or VII.
>>12019845>If you want less talking and more fightingThat sounds like my jam>>12019843>If your objective in playing a Final Fantasy game is to play the whole series then start with the first game.I heard the NES final fantasy games are really buggy, archaic as fuck, and not suited for beginners because of their difficulty. I also heard IV kind of sucks so V it is. The legendary IV and VII are afterwards so it seems sensible to me.
>>12019851>really buggyhave bugs but none of them will prevent you from beating the game. >archaic as fuckff3 came out 2 years before ff5 we arent talking about generational disconnect here>not suited for beginners because of their difficultythe millions of people that started with final fantasy 1 got through it just fine. If you die in the game you dont get killed in real life you just restart at your last save and get to keep playing, this is how most games work including the one you posted (which has some of the hardest bosses in the series and harder than the nes games).>I also heard IV kind of sucksI heard every single final fantasy sucks that shouldnt stop you from playing what you find interesting. If you just want to play the legendary 6 and 7 play those. Just play something it doesnt matter.
>>12019841Yeah it's a great place to start. IV through IX, any one of those is a good starting point except maybe VIII. >>12019851IV is actually really good, one of my favorites. It's just simple and doesn't allow you to customize your characters or anything. Which can be a strength if you're into that.V is the opposite, characters are blank slates you can build with whatever jobs you want.
>>12019841There is a fan made remake of FF1 (ff renascença or some gay shit like that just Google it) that its a better version of 1. Or play the gba remake of 1 and 2.
if you like classes play 5 if you don't like classes play 6if you like characters play 7 if you don't like characters play 1
>>12019845This. but fuck VII, stick with VI. If you want a more simple, yet hard game with slightly more talking, start with IV.
>>12019884VII raped you in the bum and you never recovered
>>12019841any one is a good one to start with they're all completely differentyou get absolutely nothing from playing them in order, it's like zelda
>>12019841I started on Final Fantasy II for SNES.>isn't it called--It's Final Fantasy II. For SNES.The PlayStation port known as "Final Fantasy IV" is also acceptable.
>>12019841you should play ff2 on nes
Five is fun as hell. The GBA version adds some extra content. Pick it up with an improved visuals and music patch and have fun.You MIGHT want to consider a guide if you don't want to miss out on certain spells and items.
>>12019841Play Mystic Quest on SNES.
>>12019843/thread
>>12019864>(which has some of the hardest bosses in the series and harder than the nes games)No fucking joke. I remember getting destroyed at the four crystals boss fight on my first playthrough, and I think that was only the halfway point of the game.
>>12019851>I heard the NES final fantasy games are really buggy, archaic as fuck, and not suited for beginners because of their difficulty. They were simplified versions of D&D or Wizardry or whatever the hell, made for kids and loved by kids. They were easy, accessible games and the bugs are subtle and barely relevant. RPGs that are awkward and archaic like what you're saying are mainly on PCs. ALL Final Fantasy is for beginners.
>>12019841IV was a good place for me to start but you can play them in any order of course
>>12020537>RPGs that are awkward and archaic like what you're saying are mainly on PCsNTA and those really are way less accessible than 80s JRPGs but don't underestimate the power of Japanese children from back in the days. Even SNES/Genesisfags (except those who played Phantasy Star 2 lmao) have trouble getting into 8 bit JRPGs
>>12019864Rare sense poster.
>>12019851No point working your way backwards honestly, if you start at 1 then you'll have no trouble getting into anything after.
>>12020735Except 2
>>12020742Just don't be a retard about it.
>>12019843I disagree, I think you should start with some of the better entries and work your way towards less polished ones. 1 is fine, but 2 is pretty disliked for a lot of reasons and it being one of your first entries is more likely to scare you off.
>>12020747Even if you approach the game in good faith and play by its rules it can still be hard to get into for a lot of people. I did beat the OG version and liked it almost as much as 1 but I understand why its disliked by most fans
>>12019843>>12019864Its refreshing to see reasonable posts, usually FF threads attract a lot of autism
>>12020771>>12020778I find the reason most people dislike it is they went into it with incorrect outside viewpoints poisoning the well (i.e. hurr durr beat yourself up for HP). If you try playing it like any normal FF or other RPG, it's honestly one of the easiest games. The many trap doors in dungeons were the worst part, but even those are not a huge deal. Hell, by the end I could usually guess which door was real just by feel.
>>12020789>it's honestly one of the easiest games. It's definitely harder than any game that followed except maybe 5 and the final dungeon of 3
>>12020785The autism has lessened dramatically since the hack, go figure.
>>12019845There are a LOT of cutscenes in V though.
>>12019841Really depends on what you're looking for. FFV doesn't have the most interesting story but the gameplay is pretty fun although the balance is on the harder side and you can end up stuck for a while if you picked super shitty jobs or didn't grind enough. I don't think it's a bad starting place but go for FFVI or VII if you want deeper stories, themes, vibe and better music. The gameplay in those is probably easier and less deep, but.
>>120208874 being the "story" game and 5 being the "gameplay" game is a weird meme that spread despite being complete nonsense. I would wager there is the same amount of story in 5 compared to 4.
>>12021630It's just that 4 is braindead easy (especially the version that most people in the west played) and 5 is one of the hardest in the series so people remember 5's gameplay more
start with X so you know what a shit FF is
>tfw you realise that 2 is the most storyfag game out of the first 5 AND it filters everyone because of its gameplayTruly the ultimate classic FF game
>>12021679Though to be fair, even though it's the hardest in the series it's not like 5 is all that hard either. It's still a fairly easy game, you just might need to retry a few bosses multiple times with different jobs and setups. Enemies definitely put up more of a fight though. The final boss can be brutal if you're underleveled, but even then you can always fall back on leveling a bit and then spamming gil toss.
The best Final Fantasy made is 13-2, but this is a retro board so I can't say that
>>12019841>>12019843>>12019845>>12019851>>12019864Play Sakaguchi kino.>FF1>FF2>FF3>FF4>FF5>FF9
>>12020249Bad anon, bad!
>>12019841Yes, but1) You don't have to play all Final Fantasy games if you don't want to. Sans extremely rare exceptions each game is its own universe and is completely separated from the rest.2) You can and should just play whatever title(s) you want and disregard those that don't pick your attention. Now regarding Final Fantasy V, I like it and it's one of my favorites because 1) mechanically speaking offers the player a lot of variety thanks to its job system 2) It has a massive world map and places to explore, plust it's one of those games that keep going beyond what you'd expect (no spoilers) 3) Its cast and story has IMO a good mix of lightheartedness without losing the focus on the epic main plot too much. You're probably going to love Faris and the game's music.P.S. If you want to try another JRPG franchise on SNES/SFC I recommend the Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu series, specially SD3.
>>12022128Why?
>>12019890VI, VII, VIII and X are the best Final Fantasy kinos. The earlier entries aren't bad, while everything after X is vomit.
>>12019864>If you die in the game you dont get killed in real lifeCan anyone confirm this? I'm too afraid to try
>>12019841everything before 7 is shit because the games have barely any story so it's just grinding and random battles, waste of life
>>12024063You are really doing it wrong.
Yes. Just change your jobs and find skill combos that help you keep up with the fights. Got a wild sort of whimsical that gets serious but overall doesn't take itself too seriously. And it has a beautiful cave theme.
>>12019851vr won't admit it, but I&II Dawn of souls is better than the NES originals in every way
>>12019841You can't go wrong with Final Fantasy VI or VII. Don't play anything after XII
>>12019841Start with IV
