The fact that I've many seen people praise Quake 4 makes me very nervous honestly. It's literally just the most generic sci-fi FPS from the year 2005 that happens to be called Quake in name.

Quake 4 is a really fun game.

Prey is also lots of fun.

I have Doom 3 but I'll play it after i finish Doom 2016, which I'll play after i finish Red Dead 2.

I also played Doom 1, i understand the hype, that was fun.

it's fun until about the first vehicle section, then it just gets boring.

Played it for the first time recently. Pretty forgettable in almost every regard aside from a couple enemy types. Some neat looking environments towards the end of the game too.

doom 3 was a perfectly serviceable quake game. resurrection of evil was a pretty decent quake game. neither deserved the hate they got, but neither was like, super good or anything and neither deserved the doom name.

The development of quake 1 is irrelevant because it's still a finished product with a specific theming. It's not as if vores, fiends and shamblers made it into quake 2
