If I want to bring an SDTV console with me on a trip and I want the best experience does that mean I'm hauling a CRT along with me or is there a more compact solution I'm not considering?

I don't even care if you live or die anon
>>

Same to you, broski. Have that bleach smoothie, won't bother me.
>>
>>12021984
I’d buy a steam deck or some chink handheld and just transfer your saves back and forth with your consoles at that point
>>
>>12022001
What's the easiest way to export saves from a Dreamcast?

just get one of these.

Yeah, alright, I'll try this option.

These are passable, a chink retrotwink 2x clone is also useful.

Embrace tradition.

i have both and the reason i recommend the bitfunx adapter over the retroscaler 2x is because it can do 480p and the cable mess is less messy.
>>
>>12022367
Good point, I don't usually consider 480p for more casual ps2 setups.

This thing probably eats batteries faster than a GameGear

>is there a more compact solution I'm not considering?
There isn't. Only a CRT offers the best experience using real hardware. If you want a compact solution that give the best experience you will have to use a different solution which doesn't involve real hardware, like FPGA on a low latency monitor.

Suggestions in this thread to use an analog to digital cable should be discarded. All of them introduce lag and won't give you the best experience (the bitfunx cable is especially laggy btw).

The most compact and practical solution is to get a gaming laptop with a low latency display and emulate, It is the most appropriate set up for travel but makes a slight compromise in "best experience".

Nice thread by the way. Asking questions with contradictory needs is to sure spark discussion!

Is there a more compact solution?
Yes
Will it come cheap?
No

The cheap alternative that works flawlessly is by RetroScaler.
I don't advise going CRT unless you know how to maintain them and calibrate the beams.

>I don't advise going CRT unless you know how to maintain them and calibrate the beams
wut? CRTs work for like 100 years without fixing them. You are more likely to need to repair a brand new TV you go buy today than a 30-40 year old CRT
>>
>>12022858
Some CRTs actually need some beam recalibration specially now if the CRT is older from the 2000s, that's the minimum one may do if has that issue with the CRT... However with a RetroScaler or RetroTINK you don't really need the CRT, it would be just enthusiastic or speedrunners.
>>
>>12022861
I've had plenty of them break but it's easy enough to just get another. You don't need to be able to repair/recalibrate them or whatever. Just don't spend a bunch of money on like a PVM or other expensive shit and it's nbd when they break.

You definitely don't need a CRT but don't stay away from them just because they break. So does new shit.
>>
>>12022861
>it would be just enthusiastic or speedrunners.
Should be: It would be just for enthusiasts or speedrunners

That's true. Don't get a CRT unless you are an enthusiast.
>>
>>12022862
I don't stay away from them because they break, I just don't need them, that's what I meant if you just want to travel with your retro console and have a good experience for casual gaming or simply play without traveling, RetroScaler or RetroTINK are the way, again unless you're an enthusiast or a Speedrunner, they I see justifiable getting the CRT

>>
>>12023203
That wasn't me you replied to the first time. I'm saying that the reason USB type C is the smallest connector on it is that it's newer and designed smaller as a result.
>>
>>12023203
Why are you fucking people so insistent on getting the exact question you answered and everything else is "moving the goalposts" or "sidestepping"?

>All of them introduce lag and won't give you the best experience (the bitfunx cable is especially laggy btw).

This is a travel solution, I'm not looking for absolute optimized gaming, just something that suffices. When I'm at home is when I want to make sure my experience is as tuned as possible.

I ordered one of these. It's probably not an ideal solution and I have something much better that I use at home but I'd rather travel with as little as I can and if I'm just plugging this into a hotel TV then I'll take a simple solution.
