>the japanese made 39 spin off titlesWhat the fuck made them so obsessed with this series?
>>12022102genetic autism
>>12022102>spinoffmore like they just hijacked the series illegally and just kind of got away with it.
>>12022104If that was true Finland would have made even more
>>12022112quake took over finns first
>>12022108Sounds about right. Just look at what Japanese architecture looked like before they stole it from the Chinese. Same with anime.
>>12022102It was very unique for it's time. It was available on early JP computers unlike similar games like Ultima and Might & Magic and because of that it was also available in JP well before jrpgs like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, and even early Dungeon Crawlers like Megami Tensei.
>>12022102Worst part is that they are all just simplified versions of Knight of Diamonds. They never took anything from the later games.
>>12022102Play it and find out, it's not that intimidating as people make it out to be and it's pretty short>>12022129Thankfully they didn't take out anything from the shitty rest anywhere spaceshit trilogy
>>12022125You mean the Jomon period? It's pretty identical to contemporaneous Chinese architecture of their Yangshao period.I don't know much about Korean history so I don't know their periods/cultures by name but I'd be surprised if neolithic architecture from there was any different.
>>12022102The suffering of the grind speaks to them.
>>12022108>>12022125>t. salty korean
>>12022159>Play it and find out, it's not that intimidating as people make it out to beI did and it's exactly as intimidating as people make it out to be.
>>12022234i mean, the yamato japanese descended from a group of shitty koreans who were so hated by their neighbors they went "fuck you, we're going to make our own korea! with blackjack and hookers!" and threw themselves into the roughest seas they could find, and when they miraculously survived, they went on to slaughter the locals and take over.
>>12022126>It was available on early JP computers unlike similar games like Ultima and Might & Magic and because of that it was also available in JP well before jrpgs like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, and even early Dungeon Crawlers like Megami Tensei.Kinda right but wrong at the same time. It was an Apple II game, which was the first major microcomputer, and a few made it to Japan. A few JP Apple II computer users tried it out, and said "holy shit, this kicks ass!". The series exploded through word of mouth until JP game publishers were calling up Sir-Tech and asking to be the localizer of Wizardry in Japan. At which point it got ported to many JP microcomputers, a year after it finally got a DOS port. A year after it got ported to multiple JP computers, Enix published Dragon Quest. The DQ devs specifically mentioned seeing Wizardry at a Macworld event and that's what gave them the idea along with Ultima. Both Wizardry and Ultima were available to the same JP Apple II gamers, Wizardry was just more popular since it wasn't as obtuse and broken as Ultima 1.
It's kind of fun to see just how the early computer RPGs were lifting ideas from each other and cross-polinating.My first one was Final Fantasy on the NES and I didn't know it at the time but it borrowed some stuff from Ultima and Phantasie and stole liberally from Dungeons and Dragons.
>>12022457Ultima 1 is pretty straight forward, and they literally copied the overworld style of Ultima 1 in Dragon Quest.
>>12022497>stole
>>12022276Just grind with the ghost and run away from battles that are not worth it, gang up on small groups, flee from big groups. All that exp at once is not worth it and you won't get better loot either.
>>12022108Point out the part that was "illegal".
>>12022104Autists suck at everything though.
>>12022102Its kind of a plague. They're STILL making dungeon crawlers that are just wizardry at their core. For some reason japs are too autistic to let it go. Same problem with 'mystery dungeon' games.
>>12022692That's not autism.
i was too used to NetHack and stuff.
>>12022697Yeah its some sort of weird jap autism. Its why they use yahoo and it hasn't changed since the 90s
>>12022707That's not autism.
>>12022159>Thankfully they didn't take out anything from the shitty rest anywhere spaceshit trilogyImagine being this dumb. Next time when you start defending japcrap at laast play the games they try to immitate.
>>12022764I did, I played real wizardry then the shit that's 6-8 and found them disappointing as they are step back from the classics.
>>12022102Dunno but kudos to them for taking Wizardry and Ultima and making that formula actually enjoyable to play. Ultima's retarded camera angle is proof at a glance that westerners are bad at video game design.
>>12022946It's incredible how almost every Ultima game has shitty combat, like bro just copy Wizardry and call it a day
>>12022280You wish, gook.
>>12022102>noooo stop liking intellectual games focused on gameplay!>make more movie games and bing bing wahoo!
>>12022102Cheap copy paste trash, easy to churn out any amount, and mob still buy because brand value.
>>12022697>>12022709It is, actually. An unwillingness to change or adapt is a sign of autism. They are extremely rigid and stubborn.
>>12022946>Dunno but kudos to them for taking Wizardry and Ultima and making that formula actually enjoyable to play. Ultima's retarded camera angle is proof at a glance that westerners are bad at video game design. They took the literal gameplay of Wizardry for Final Fantasy, and they took the literal perspective of Ultima for Dragon Quest. The fuck are you on about you retarded schizo?
>>12022949It's incredible how every time you post it's an incredibly shitty opinion.
>>12023274>the literal perspective of Ultima for Dragon Quest. That anon probably knows Ultima for the games that look like pic related, not Ultima 1. That said, I never got why they went for this retarded camera angle either.
>>12022102I've heard they saw it as a lot darker and more serious than the nerdlingers that made it intended it to be
The author of Goblin Slayer is currently writing a Wizardry ln series. I think it's really decent, but my literary tastes are questionable>>12022692I'm glad they do, that's something I really like about nipponese gaming
>>12022692And that's a good thing
>>12023406What the fuck is a "nerdlinger"?
>>12023507a nerd
>>12023271That is not autism.
>>12022697>>12022709>>12023709THAT is definitely autism.
If it's not broken don't "fix" it
>>12022457>The series exploded through word of mouth until JP game publishers were calling up Sir-Tech and asking to be the localizer of Wizardry in Japan. And that enabled Robert Woodhead to see those Japanese cartoons and go "hmm this gives me an idea"
>>12023753If only they copied it 1 to 1 instead of changing shit to """streamline""" it.
>>12023283Simpler to do with a tile engine than isometric
>>12023751We need to go back to referring to "autism" as "asperger's", which is a learning difficulty. If you had known actual autistic people, you'd know this. People with learning difficulties do not do well.
>>12022692Good.
I always wondered what the reaction in nippon would be if Werdna and/or The Avatar got into Smash bros. Would they be literal western whos, or would the turbonerds basedface at the reference to reps for the primal ooze that birthed rpgs in their lands?
>>12022625People expect the game to be like other games where you can kill any enemy you encounter but you’re supposed to learn to avoid some enemies.
>>12024809>We need to go back to referring to "autism" as "asperger's"No we don'tStop being autistic.
>>12024931I'm not wrong, fucking everything and everyone is "autistic" when neither are. You're on the retro board, treat it like how it was 30 years ago when people didn't just throw it round willy nilly.
>>12024948/vr/ is my toilet and i shit in it however i damn please
>>12022949Ultima 3/4/5 had combat that was more complex and strategic than Wizardry.ever had at the time. Anyone that played Wizardry and Ultima could tell you that. Later "classic" Wizardry had to resort to drowning you in encounters with RNG insta-death or put timers to a game over state to even make the game any challenge. That's why the game had to evolve past Wizardry 4. People were literally sending them mail mocking their feeble attempts at complexity.
>>12025004>either have these specific items to cast spells or use ranged weapons or else face the slowest most boring combat ever>good>difficult Just because you have to walk over to the enemy it doesn't mean the combat is complex, it's just tedious
>>12024809>fuck off assburgers retard hurr durryeah no thanksalthough either way i thought it was a different form of autism
>>12026141Asperger's shares some characteristics with autism, but some of the symptoms are wildly different and even run opposite to what you'd expect to see in autism. It got recategorized as a subtype of autism, but that was nothing to do with science, and everything to do with the more numerous and politically powerful autism researchers and lobbyists getting the asperger's researchers defunded and claiming their resources. It was pure politics and money.
Wizardry sucks dick because it's not enough to employ a winning strategy. You have to get good rng to win. Japs love having their time wasted like this. I've never understood it. Maybe their brains enjoy rote tasks over and over while convincing themselves it was time well spent overcoming a "challenge"
>>12026253Skill issue, you have to be smart and resourceful to win
>>12026253gambling is extra addicting when you're not losing real money I guess
>>12026272I hate zoomers so fucking much
>>12026272thats basically what it amounts to. its essentially just baccarat with an unnecessary fantasy overlay.
