What's the best controller to enjoy this game
>>
stick your dick into an n64 controller port and call it a day
>>
>>12022886
8bitdo Pro 3
>>
>>12022886
N64 controller obviously
It goes N64 >>>>>>>> GC >>>>> Literally anything else
Get an adapter for your PC and remember to lube up your stick
or if you're normal just use an xbox controller idk
>>
>>12022895
What makes the gc controller interesting for mario 64?
>>
>>12022886
a mouse
you get far superior camera control
>>
>>12022886
Are you a slut? Then my penis.
>>
a controller with an analog stick. no, an actual 64 controller doesnt matter despite what the cult will tell you
>>
>>12022886
any with notches and 6 buttons
>>
>>12022886
Whatever you have lying around.
>>

Octagonal gate. The octagonal gate helps a lot when you need to run in a perfectly straight line. SM64 is very sensitive so being able to use the notches is actually really helpful.

so why all the sperging out against ds dpad movement?
>>
>>12023005
Because analog controls also offer you precision when you need to walk across a thin bridge with turns retard. idk if this even appears in the original SM64 but still the fact that you can't comprehend why being able to go in cardinal directions while also having analog control may be useful indicates an extremely low IQ

Wired 360 controller, playing on Project64 1.6, on windows XP, with unregistered Hypercam 2 recording
>>
>>12022886
A Nintendo DS's touch screen
>>
>>12022886
i have played it with many controllers, but the wii classic controller was honestly the best.
>>
>>12022886
I played it for the first time on my wii with a wii classic controller, it was fine
>>
>>12022886
just map A to right shoulder, B to left shoulder, R to r-trigger and Z to l-trigger
and L to select/back
>>
>>12023005
Is the dpad pressure sensitive?
>>
>>12022886
Any controller you find comfy will do just fine desu.
I've been using this thing for a while now and its pretty comfy for N64 games.
>>
>>12022886
The original N64 one or any controller with an analog stick that you find comfortable with doing subtle and precise motions (E.g. An Xbox 360/One/XS one for me).
>>
Since 1996 I've beaten Mario 64 with 120 stars on a real N64 pad, a Wii Classic Controller, a Gamecube pad, a Dualshock 3, an Xbox 360 pad, an 8bitdo Pro 2, an N64 NSO replica pad and a Dualsense.

Let me be absolutely clear when I say this: the people telling you that an N64 pad is necessary or enhances the game in any way are tendie cultists. There is nothing so special about the N64 stick that you MUST experience Mario 64 without it. You will absolutely have a better time with a controller that feels the most comfortable and convenient to you.

The revisionism around that fucking controller is just baffling. Tendies will have you believe that its a magical stick with magical sensors and that anything else is incapable of precise movements and flicks. Complete nonsense.

try playing with a dualshock 2 or 3 and appropriate hardware/software to enable analog dpad.

I feel sorry for your parents
