Im having issues with an expansion pack i just repaired...

I got this expansion pack from a friend that told me it didnt work, after readaing about it i found out the main issue is the resistors going bad, i checked and indeed 2 of the resistor arrays had issues with the normal values, few days ago i received the replacements and now it is working for the most part.

Issue is the console keeps resetting by itself every few mintes, sometimes 5 minutes in, other times 10-15 minutes in, i have 3 other n64 consoles and this same issue happens with all 4 consoles, also have another PSU and it still happens with the other PSU, and also i have another expansion pack and a regular jumper pack and the resseting issue only happens with the expansion pack i repaired.

So, anyone has experience with this issue? it obviously is something with this expansion pack, i tried applying thermal paste under the small rubber pad thats inside the expansion pack, also i applied more solder to the upper pins on the RAM chip that serve as anchor points and my guess is also transfer heat from the chip to the PCB.

Kinda basic, but did you clean the contacts?
>>
my N64 is touchy with every cartridge and will produce no picture or a black & white picture if the cartridge is not just right
>>
check for cold joints i suppose.

and i mean all over the board, specially the memory chips.

In some ways I feel like its a miracle these things still work at all. They run very hot

Looks like you didn't

yes, used alcohol and qtip, then an ereaser and the pins are so shiny they look brand new.

>>12023586
thats just so time consuming id rather just stop using it.

>>12023679
yes they run very hot, but the heat shield does the job, PS2s also run very hot and still alive and kicking.

welp it ditn even boot at all before i replaced the resistors, which im not sure if i should post the link so people can buy some in case they need them, got a 100 pieces pack for 4 dolaridos, and there are 3 resistors on each expansion pack

isn't it just some resistors, caps and the memory?
it shouldn't take you more than an hour to touch each pin to find out if they are loose or not and solder them if they are.
though, if i were you i would start testing the caps. the symptoms say that the system becomes unstable after a while which could be because of caps not filtering.

Interesting. I'm not an expert or anything but I'd definitely guess it's the RAM, the random reboot reminds me of ram->crash problems on windows. Your n64 is getting BSODed hahah
>>
RDRAM probably dead. It happens. Even when it was new, I noticed our systems with RDRAM had memory failures much more frequently than SDRAM and DDR machines.
>>
Is there an expansion/jumper pak that those consoles don't reset on? I think the two most common problems that cause a N64 to involuntarily reset are its RAM packs and a loose/not properly inserted power supply box.
>>
>>12024619
because rdram is a piece of shit.
it was tried on desktop computers and it flopped because it performed worse in real world scenarios because of increased latency compared to sdram and got hotter while being more expensive.
it didn't help that ddr sdram hit the market half a year after.

Apparently you're supposed to put the cover over it but I'm kinda glad I never did

just get some ram heatsink on aliexpress

I could imagine a bad connection for the socket possibly

RAM is dead. sell on ebay as is for parts, cut your losses and buy another.
