It certainly has more *content* than the original Super Mario Bros but it feels way less iconic and timeless. The level design feels haphazard and frustrating, the artstyle is garish, the minigames and story monologues bog down the pace. Whereas 1 felt focused and foundational, 3 just feels messy and incoherent with no strong direction
Boring zoomer revisionism. You had to be there.
>>12023625It didn't hold up as well. SMB1 is a cultural cornerstone with timeless gameplay. SMB3 is just more Mario, except with an uglier artstyle, less memorable levels, lame gimmick stages, and stupid minigames
Garbage thread
30 year old zoomer here. Beat both SMB1 and SMB3 this year on original hardware (MiSTer), no cheats/save states. SMB1 was a ton of fun and just really understands how to make movement and flying through levels feel so good. It's like engineered to feel as satisfying as humanly possible. SMB3 was just mid, it felt like a patchwork of shitty romhack levels. There was no flow to anything, lots of cheap gotchas, I didn't like the way Mario controlled, and having to play the stupid ass matching games for lives was annoying. Honestly had to force myself to finish it (actually pretty hard game). It has a lot of secrets and a ton of content, but ultimately it's just not very fun so I had no desire to play any more after beating.
>>12023621Smb3 exhumes the funness mixed with evolved mechanics that smb1 introduced. You say it's more of the same, but its not the same. It evolved the mechanics and wackiness into a different place. The "gimmicks" are actually well crafted levels that not only adhere to the world design, they define it's atmosphere. The presentation is of a stage play and it's exaggerated worlds and art style fully encapsulate this. It nailed what it was going for and you're just too blind to see the forest for the trees, or in this case the effort that went into the game as a whole.
Toad Houses were an Ninten Ultra brainwashing scheme to make kids addicted to gambling
>>12023663Chat GPT tier garbage reply. SMB3's level design is garbage, Mario controls worse than 1, and the stageplay shit has always been lame
>>120236211 is certainly better than 3 but you're acting like 3 is straight up dogshit. I'm not a tendie (proud Ataritard), but even the worst retro mainline Mario game is like a 7/10. My issue with 3 is no save battery or password system. Warp whistles are fine I guess but for a game the size of 3 I'd much rather have an actual save function.
>>12023621Super Mario Bros Deluxe on GBC is the best of both worlds. You get the overworld of 3 with the gameplay of SMB1.
>>12023663I suggest you look up what exhume means, I do agree with your substantial argumentation afterward>>12023670You on the other hand didn't substantiate the qualities you percieved making your disapproving assertations inconsequential. You need to explain why your perception matters because here you are a nobody among nobodies and nobody cares whether or not you approve of something, what matters is why
Still posting this, huh?
