Straight from iso might not work, there was a pesky thing on I think vista and later where the copy protection was acting up and would crash the game.

This. Just did it last year. Played both of the sp campaigns and went to the same servers again that I used to play on 15 years ago. And some of the old guys were there, too. Back then, those servers were great, really organized with appropriate rules to make sure everyone is working together. They didn't have these strict rules anymore but it was still loads of fun. Can only speak for EU though. Are there still servers in the US?

Oh god, flashback to that loud crashing drum cymbal noise when you died. Biggest jump scare in any game ever.
