What went wrong?
they invented fallout right

Fargo aka Greed.
Your favorite zoomie made a video, right?
>>12026082Being a medium sized mostly PC-only game publisher on the brink of the century was a bad time. The PC game market was overstretched and games which did not become major hits were flopping left and right. You remember the Fallout games, but Interplay had dozens of other games back then which left zero cultural (or financial) impact.
>>12026329its thisif they couldve held on for a few more yrs, it wouldve turned aroundbut very early 00s was the point in time when consoles were actually comparable to mid-range PCs in terms of power, but were MUCH cheaper. i remember thats around the time when most game stores just totally stopped carrying PC games entirely. i think one of the last PC games i ever bought in store was actually halo. and its kinda ironic since thats pretty much the game that caused it.its funny to think that it was almost a mini-dark-age for PC. certainly not in terms of software, plenty of classic PC games from 00-06 or so. but actually fucking buying them became almost impossible. that is until steam (((saved))) the industry read: monopolized the entire PC games market. thankfully piracy was also becoming much easier/faster at that timefuck gaben
>>12026082They made bad games that sold poorly
>>12026082Didn't take the console business seriously enough. They should've at least ported Fallout to PS1. PC vegans didn't buy games.
>>12026831>PC vegans didn't buy games.because for like 5yrs there, they made it almost impossible to buy gamesmost stores stopped carrying PC games
PC gaming hard declined by the 2000s, it was either get bought by EA or die, and Interplay chose the latter.
>>12027231Not true, but yeah I see what you mean. Places like toys r us or software etc.. did indeed stop, but Walmart and Best buy and circuit city always had PC games.
>>12026532World of warcraft changed the pc scene at this time too
>>12026082These people absolutely ruined rpgs forever. I cannot imagine how much of a dumb consumer someone has to be in order to be a fallout/baldurs gate fan. Everything from this era onwards is complete garbage and the genre will never ever recover.
>>12027316Not like the genre was in a good state before fallout
>>12027329It went from a cool and ambitious thing to a genre for casual barrel scraping nitwits that ruin everything they touch. Every single video game board is being ruined by rpg fans.
