The 'remake' games are not what I wanted, but once I got over the fact they weren't straight remakes, and were going for something somewhat new/different I became more open minded to them. I actually enjoyed part 2 tremendously. Would I have rather had a faithful remake? Yes, but these are actually very fun for what they are, and regardless of how they play or have changed, it's still a pleasure to see some of my favorite areas reimagined in full 3d.Despite the titles, I wouldn't even call them remakes, they're their own separate thing.

I actually hope they make a proper sequel which takes better advantage of the new mechanics, since some of the post-game bosses showed that they could make some challenging fights which made decent use of said mechanics.
