Let's have a thread about ports of next gen video games to retro systems. Preferably those that have some interesting differences, or are just different games sharing only the title.Did you know Mercenaries 2: World in Flames has a PS2 port that runs on Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction engine, with Mercenaries 1 gameplay and smaller map that tries to look similar to the PS360 counterpart.
>>12030776I had no idea, thanks man
WWE games obviously made it up to 2011 on PS2, and honestly, there's not THAT big a difference between the old gen and next gen console versions. They probably only stopped because they just couldn't sell DLC on the PS2 versions.
Wasn't Tony Hawk 4 on ps1, just a reskin of Tony Hawk 3 with different levels?
>>12030776But is the PS2 version good?
>>12030776Cod world at war final fronts for the PS2
>>12030838It's fine, but it's neutered compared to the PS3 version. Less features, like bomb options. I remember it had more collectibles for some reason, too.
The PS2 version of Just Cause comes to mind, it's basically the same game it just looks terrible and crashes all the time.
>>12030857This one too but it never crashed on me. It's buggy though
Not familiar with Splinter Cell, but I've heard that one of the games that came out on next gen had a PS2 port which was considered to be the best version of the game.
>>12030776Splinter Cuck Double Agents PS2 version is a totally different game from the 7th gen versionHarry Potter Order of the Faggot & the Half Blood Pajeet on PS2 lacked the physics present in the 7th gen version (you can't use your wand to move objects or hit NPC's)WWE KWAB 2011 on the PS2 also lacked the physics (for example throwing a chair on the ring rope will not bounce)Alone in the Dark (2008) on the PS2 had some different levels and puzzles and some scenes were removed
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets were completely different games between the PS1, PS2, PC, GBA, and GBC.And the PS1 version is by far the best.
>>12030939Nah, PC >>>
>>12030931I would assume the AITD reboot also removed all the fire and physics features on the PS2 version, right? PS3/360 versions had some genuinely impressive shit going on.
Force Unleashed of course. The ps2 version has much better combat and more levels but it doesn’t have the silly physics or the black lightsaber.
Rayman Arena has a ps1 version that only contains the racing mode. I had it and had no idea Arena existed until i started emulating
>>12030926That's Double Agent and the Xbox version is considered the best, the Ps2 one was downgraded but still pretty goodThe PC version however was notoriously broken
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 and UndercvoerThe first and last game on PS2 differed quit a bit from the PC version
I hate this kind of thing because my autism makes me want to play all versions.
>>12031973I kinda hate that people say console HP2 is superior, they're both really good, just PC HP2 is the last of the more grounded NFS games while the PS2 version is the start of the more arcadey, cinematic action style they ended up settling into.>>12031979How do you deal with different revisions of games, patches, regional differences? Or is it just when there's a bit of a difference, because honestly whatever, I have every console version of quake (i think) for some stupid reason, the saturn one is fucking unplayable.
>>12030776Splintercell: Pandora Tomorrow had a skydiving sequence that was playable in the 360 version but a cutscene in the Xbox version.
>>12030776Technically those aren't ports because they came out simultaneously. You can take a game that was available on arcade machines and make a port for a modern console/pc. Or a current game and port it to the Switch (and it's actually impressive since the Switch is so underpowered). Mercenaries 2 didn't have a PS2 port, it just happened to come out around a time when we were changing console generations. Kind of like how Spiderman 3 came out for both the PS2 and PS3.>>12032120I remember that Dante's Inferno on the PS3 had a wall climbing part that you could control but on the PSP it was just a cutscene and it broke the immersion because it was a compressed video and it didn't look sharp like the game at all.
X Men Origins: Wolverine on the PS2 is rated T. For some reason they pussied out and removed the gore.
Max Payne has a fun demake on GBA. It's developers later worked on PSP GTA games.
>>12033391GBA and DS versions of console games are a whole another chapter, I really liked the GBA versions of Splinter Cell games
>>12030776>Did you know Mercenaries 2: World in Flames has a PS2 portyes I own it not bad not amazing early open workd
Unlike the PC and other console versions it was a 3rd person shooter, it's almost decent but the controls and aiming are pretty annoying
Call of Duty 3 came out on both PS2 and 7th gen consoles but it seems there wasn't much difference beyond the graphicsThe PS2 version of World at War however is quite different
>>12033417>World at WarJust like with Wolverine they took out the gore and made it T rated. What fucking gives? It can't be a graphics thing because many PS2 games had great gore like Soldier of Fortune, Shadow of Rome, Cold Winter...
>>12030795In a way, yes, but 3 on PS1 was just 2 with different levels. And 4 on PS1 actually went through the effort to somewhat replicate the real 4's new goal system (individual goals with their own timers rather than a list of goals under one timer)
Tomb Raider Underworld
>>12033449For the Wolverine game it was a demographics thing, the idea being that if someone owned a 360, PS3 or gaming PC they were probably an adult and that if they were stuck with PS2 or the Nintendo systems they were probably a kid.
>>12031908Good to know, nice thread anons.
The World Is Not Enough had 2 different versions on N64 and Ps1There was also plan to release another version on PS2 and PC but it got cancelled
Spider-Man 3 had a different version on PS2, Wii and PSP and I heard it's better than the next gen versionPlus there were also 2 unique ones on DS and GBA
>>12034070How was the PS2 port?
>>12032120Pandora tomorrow was never on 360, it released in 2004.
>>12030847Not a port and bad enough for rebellion to not knowledge its existense. Most interesting thing about it is that it has european campaign which was cut from the main release. It also appears to use same general ideas as main release so it can probably give us hazy idea what cut european campaign was supposed to be like.>>12030926Double agent.PS2 version is pretty and it is wasn't as divisive as the main release.
THPS4 on PS is not very good
>>12030860>>12030857Never played it, but I think the 360 version of Just Cause is glitchy too. I remember seeing something about driving into the ocean will randomly unlock achievements like for earning all cars or some shit.
>>12037782still OK for a 2002-2003 release.
>>12038940I just don't understand how someone can see that and not upgrade immediately
>>12031876>I would assume the AITD reboot also removed all the fire and physics features on the PS2 versionThe PS2 port's physics also use Havoc but yeah, it's mostly static, being limited to few assets and the cars. Fire spread works but is limited to selected parts of levels.
>>12032182Dante's Inferno for PSP isn't yet retro by /vr/ standards, but it is a very impressive port, that probably would run on PS2.
