What's a good drop in replacement for the noisy ass CPSII fan? Also arcade hardware general
>arcade hardware generalwhy? what's in it for me?
>>12031145>0.006 db of fan noise.>nu user : nooo is making noiseThe memes were real.
>>12031275>what's in it for me>I need to make money off 4chan postsOk shylock.
>>12031145>What's a good drop in replacement for the noisy ass CPSII fan?Literally any 12v fan that fits the dimensions. 99% chance that its noisy simply due to it long ago losing it's oil to lube the ball barrings.
I got myself hands on a IGS PGM board dated 1999. So It doesn't have the leaky mounted varta battery. Anything else I need to keep in mind? Been thinking about recapping it, since Taiwanese capacitors aren't exactly famous for their quality not to mention being above 20 years old.
>>12031145Nothing is "drop in" for a "dropped on the head"
>>12031450Speaking of PGM>DoDonPachi II used to be cheap as fuck because it wasn't considered a real "entry in to the series">Nowadays the market has been swarmed with DoJ BL(Still can't find white label), Ketsui and Espgaluda bootlegs for cheapies meanwhile DDP II goes for 300+ bucks and Demon Front 400+Funny
>>12031295>>12031404The fan is incredibly loud because it was picked to spin as fast as possible to keep the board cool, it's stuffed into a hot ass arcade cabinet running 12 hours a day or moreI wouldn't be surprised if the stock fan is like 85dB, it's way too loud for home use>>12031450Recap it, the caps they used are shit>>12031471This is called market forces because more people are collecting and there is finite supplyDDP2 and DF cannot be bootlegged because of the ARM chip protectionsThe cave games are all bootlegs so of course they are cheaper
>>12031549I have an arcade and you rarelly notice it, also 85 db would be a speaker of 1 meter playing music so it isn't good to exagerate you just prove you are zoomie and nothing else.Would love to see you using an old PC which has louder noise from the mini speaker, the fans and so on.
>>12031145You dont need a fan unless you're putting it in a cab, I just removed mine. Otherwise whatever fits, you just match the voltage and size.

What's the most pain in the ass board from a maintenance perspective?
Anyone else find those consolized MVS gay as fuck? Come on just get a supergun instead of fucking with the hardware
>>12033107>What's the most pain in the ass board from a maintenance perspective?/vr/
>>12033547>Anyone else find those consolized MVS gay as fuck?Nah, the opposite, I think they are super cool, especially when they get creative with the custom shell. The all wood Analogue CMVS is gorgeous, the only thing I'd change is swapping the sticks bluetooth with a braided cord.
Just changed my taito f3 fan. Little less noisy but still noisy due to the small size of the fan.
>>12032697>you just prove you are zoomieYou just prove you are probably autistic, ESL, and you might be X68000 schizo?>Would love to see you using an old PC which has louder noise from the mini speaker, the fans and so on.You are an absolute retard if you think any 90s PC is comparably loud to the stock fan on a CPS2>>12032751The customs get hot and are known to fail. if you're going to be dumb and run it without a fan ar least put heatsinks on them >>12033107Not this one, how hard is it to flash the BIOS
>>12033547>Anyone else find those consolized MVS gay as fuck?YES!!!!1!1 I keep telling all my clients that "those consolized MVS" are gay as fuck and mine aren't. Endorsement screenshotted.>Come on just get a supergun instead of fucking with the hardwareI LOVE it! But how can we convince people that a supergun in a box is "fucking with the hardware" I love the concept, but we have a major reality conflict we need to spin.
>>12032697>I have an arcadeuser is underage
>>12031145>>CPS210 years ago, I decided to built a complete one (1994 Alien vs Predator), buying pieces from Ebay and Arcade Museum, bid by bid. Took me almost 4 years to finish it.Typicall thing you do once in a life time, zero regrets.
>>12034413>The customs get hot and are known to fail. if you're going to be dumb and run it without a fan ar least put heatsinks on themthe ASICS on the CPS2 barely fail you stupid faggot, it's the CPS1 that had failing ASICS.I've had 3 CPS2 carts for over 18 years now, none of them with fans and played at multiple events for long periods, still working
>>12033107I wouldn't consider suicide batteries alone to be a pain in the ass, even though yes, they're guaranteed maintenance, while some other boards could very well outlive most people posting on here without requiring repair. In terms of potential for reparability, probably any game which relies on fully custom components which can only be salvaged from other PCBs. Fortunately Caius seems to be doing a great job of reproducing some of these, but of course he will only ever wind up scratching the surface of such components. Probably the biggest general PITA boards would be older PCBs with Fujitsu TTLs, since those are prone to failure, and their negative impacts might not always be immediately evident. I have a Wonder Boy PCB which I think has at least one failing TTL somewhere - it SEEMS fine and will run OK at boot with zero errors, but then it will randomly (and inconsistently) crash or throw up garbled graphics. At some point I will have to get a logic probe ans determine which one is/ones are the culprit(s).
