>have this game as a kid>like it a lot>years later find out through the internet that everyone hates itHas something like this happened to you guys
>>12032215I feel like Silent Hill 4 used to have a really bad reputation but it's kind of mellowed out over time. Now I'm not sure if just imagined that everyone used to hate it. FFX was one of my favorite games growing up and it inspired me to play most of the rest of the series. Kind of annoying that the game has been overshadowed by the meme making people think the dialogue and voice acting is cringe and bad. Maybe I'll think of some other ones
It was the only Metal Gear game I owned. I knew it was hated but I didn't want to believe it.
>>12032313I find it hard to hate. It's MGS1 with MGS2 mechanics and more advanced enemy AI.>but it's different than the original! And? You can enjoy both.I think most of the hate it gets is rooted in console wars. If it was on PS2 most of the hate probably wouldn't be there.
>>12032309IMO Silent Hill 4 has the best music, even over 2
>>12032318The issue is not it being different but being stupidly broken. Even if you avoid using the tranq gun the new mechanics end up trivializing most areas.
Paperboy for the nintendo 64Though in this case, everyone but me was absolutely filtered by that game
>>12032335The reasons people don't like the game have probably been painstakingly explained to him countless times.
>>12032215Everyone I knew thought Doom 3 was a masterpiece. I was surprised to find how much online faggots bitched about it.
>>12032335>>12032346Samefag
Sonic Adventure 2 (or Sonic in general), Wind Waker and Super Mario Sunshine. Yeah I was a gamecube kid.>>12032215I played through the first four DMC games a couple of years ago. I agree 2 is the worst by far. Levels have so much empty space they feel like Gmod maps, combat and bosses are a joke compared to the first game (except for the last boss) and the Dante campaign might has well not have an ending. The "False coin for a false god" line was pretty cool, though. Playing the third game afterwards felt like a breath of fresh air.>>12032309When I got my first laptop, that was one of the first games I installed because a friend recommended it to me. I never finished it but it was really cool until the second half where you just replayed the same levels but now it's also an escort mission.>>12032349Doom 3 grew on me during my second playthrough. Sometimes I think about playing again, even.
>>12032215I didn't like that you could finish the whole game by just using your guns.
>>12032540>Sonic Adventure 2 (or Sonic in general), Wind Waker and Super Mario Sunshine.People in general don't think these games are bad outside of /vr/ but you have to remember that this is a board that thinks that video games were never good so...
Apparently people think this is bad because it's not a pure platformer like the first one
>>12032335Those new machanics trivialized MGS2 as well because overall design was still very similar, just less cameras since you can shoot them down. Shit voice acting and general presentation is a bigger problem for a moviegame. Also no VR missions and useless dog tags.
DMC2 is way too easy if you're just trying to beat it, and way too hard if you want to S-rank it. Also the DMD secret missions get very tough.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcI1fOJRE6k
>>12032215Blood 2In retrospect I dont think I could finish it nowadays, it truly is a broken game
>>12032814Yeah that perfect example of terrible design. I always find it interesting. Everything is broken in the worst ways. Somehow both easy and hard.
>>12032816Was it like the only shooter game you had?
>>12032846Pretty much
>>12032810>Those new machanics trivialized MGS2No they didn't. You couldn't just tranq every guard and lazily make your way through a room because the guards made regular reports and if they didn't hear from a guy they'd send reinforcements. Also the rooms were designed with rail hanging in mind so you couldn't skip entire rooms by flipping over one and dropping down.MGS2 is plenty difficult on extreme.
>>12032846NTA but Blood 2 is super fun on easy mode. Love the gore and the edgy tone.
>>12032779Isn't this considered the best one? People don't like 3 for being too gimmicky.
>>12032779When I was a kid my ranking was 2>3>1, but when I replayed them as an adult it was 1>3>2. No idea why 2 didn't click with me again.
>>12032215same
>>12032215I thought it was okay 3D platformer with tank controlsYeah, you basically revisited the same levels but in past and future plus it literally copypasted the same boss fight again and againBut I never HATED it and never thought of it as one of the worst games ever>>12032779It's more of a modern trend these days, and I can relate to it because I also love 1 the most (loved 3 the most as a kid) and my current ranking is the same as this anon (>>12034309)My reasoning is simple - I know that 3D platformers suffered from sequelitis syndrome in late 90s and early 00s. Devs were forced to make a sequel to successful game and they already used most of their idea, so what do they do? They don't expand platforming aspect and instead rely on gimmick and mini-game aspects as "new experience" and reason for gamers to buy the sequel and try something new - see Spyro 2 (shitton of mini-games) and 3 (side characters and skateboard), Crash 2 (more boulder / animal riding levels and now there are jetpack and water jet levels) and 3 (fucking wumpa bazooka and 16 out of 30 levels not being about platforming), Croc 2 (every level is basically a mission now and you need to buy gimmick items), Gex 3 (each level basically has its own gimmick now), Tomba 2 (the minecart and kujara washing already cuckedblocked many anons from 100%) and even some other series suffered from this (try to play KH2 and count all the mini-game and gimmick sections and then play KH1 and compare the amount - in KH1 it'll be mostly 100 Acre Wood). And as time passed people no longer need to rely on gimmicks and mini-games to buy old games (they can just pirate them), so they judge them as platformers and not as "sequel to platformer but with new fancy stuff".tl;dr - mini-games and gimmicks were required to push sequels but in the end they're not up to everyone's taste
>>12034320only retards hate that game, it's not as good as 2 but it's still pretty solid overall. also has the best atmosphere and music of the trilogy imo.
>>12032215This game was made for white teenagers and I ate it up at the time. It upset me how mad Blood on the Sand was compared to this.
>>12032309I still hate SH4. The most annoying part is that people now OVERHYPE it and ignore how retarded and flawed every aspect of it is because muh original team silent or whatever bullshit.
>>12032813>>12032810How the fuck did you post two identical posts within 14 seconds of each other?
I thought people were really fucking mean and unlikeable when it came to this title. I personally loved it, but the negative attention really crushed my spirits.
it wasn't until i was an adult that i learned that people seem to hate quest 64.even outside of videogames, xanadu is my second favorite movie ever, and when i looked it up on imdb it averages at 3/10. fucking crazy, man.
>>12032215Im the only person who has played this game religiously as a kid and im pretty sure it is considered to be horrible.
>>12035158Hated by who? People who treat videogames as if they always had to be Youtuber critics? It's an inoffensive western kusoge. It's not good but it has soul, similar to games like Stimpy's Invention, Virgin's Aladdin and Cool Spot.
