Today's the 40th anniversary of it's release. Open world, separate combat ui, ethics instead of just hitting things until points fall out, first time for many things that are just expected as default now. And it had things we don't do anymore, like the cloth map, the in-character illustrated manuals, and the metal ankh in the box.Feel old yet?
I still have my map, framed on the wall.
>>12032351I’m waiting for my Chinese master system flashcart to come in the mail to play it for the first time. Modding my console for fm music too.
Ultima III was the one that really changed the course of Japanese gaming, but they appreciated Ultima IV too, made an official manga.
the last kind of playable ultima game. the first three were actually good, this one was playable, and the rest of the series is utter garbage.
>>12032351blasphemous slopglad my parents shielded me from this satanic filth
>>12032375>they really loved Ultima 4>probably has absolutely nothing to do with Ultima 4Why do they do this?
>>12032428> being an edgelord on an anonymous board"thou hast lost an eighth!"Besides, Ultima 8 was explicitly the satanic one. The Guardian taunted Lord British in a later game by showing him what the Avatar did in 8: summoning a demon and doing necromancy.
>>12032378interesting. soundtrack from what machine though?or is it a tribute album?
Some madlad made an MMO of Ultima IV. "Shattered Moon"
>>12032351I fell incredibly lucky because it was my first ever RPG. all the stuff it came with just enhanced the game and the spellbook may still be the best one ever bundled with a game. my #1 nostalgia RPG
>>12032449That's a left hand. Did the artist choose a left hand to allure to the left-hand path of magic? Based if so, I like it when some actual thinking goes into the artwork.
I don't know how many RPGs I've played. Probably close to a hundred at this point and I still haven't played any Ultima but I plan on checking out 3 and 4 one of these days on NES
I have never played an Ultima game despite having played several dozen Ultima clones.
>>12032351>no you don't understand, it's absolutely VITAL that our game use every single alphanumeric key for controls
>>12033340Looks neat. Like a mix of mud and ultima. Both things I love.
