what do you think of Crusader games?
i regret not playing them
I need to go back and finish the first game. The music and spider mines were cool.
>>12033718I liked what I played of them, I should probably try to complete them one day.
I remember buying it on gog thinking that it looked cool and not playing it because I couldn't figure out the controls.
>>12033718Did George Lucas steal this design for his clone troopers?
Damn fun. Destructible environments, good weapons and tools, cheezy FMV, reasonable difficulty (not too easy or hard)
Some of the best games Origin ever made desu
>>12033718Two of my absolute favorite games.>>12035101I think it's worth giving another chance. The controls are a hurdle, for sure, but they are learnable. If it helps, you can find the rest of the official guide on the internet archive.
>>12033718Onky played the first one, could have been cool but the control scheme was dogshit. But even with a good control scheme the game was just fine really, nothing amazing
>>12033718>what do you think of Crusader games?I don't.
>>12033718Really cool aesthetics, music and gameplay. I bought them on GOG a lot of years ago and played them with a gamepad and a custom configuration of Pinnacle Game Profiler. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2xs8pQBcZk
They're cool but too complicated for my kid brain of the time. Even if I had them I definitely would've turned away, especially since I also had Diablo available
>>12036053man I don't think the archive gets enough appreciation like the sheer amount of useful shit on there is insane
>>12036053That control scheme looks awful. How's the PS1 and Saturn port? I assume at least the controls can't be as bad.
>>12038338They look like shitWhen I played Crusader, it was on Retroarch, and I mapped everything to controller, or mostly everything.I'd share the profile, because it was a pain to map everything, but I don't know how. If anyone knows how to share DOSBOX-Pure controller profile, tell me cause I don't fucking know. I don't know what file it isAs for how it felt, it worked fine, although the aiming is always going to be inferior to using mouse, so you won't be great at aiming. As I went through the game I started to realize how much better it would probably be with mouseaim. Maybe it's just not a great controller game.
I beat Crusader No Remorse on No Remorse difficulty with a PS1 controller. Controller is fine.
>>12038356You are me.For everyone wanting to play the games, get the DOS version and map the keybinds to a gamepad through RetroArch. If you don't want to deal with RA emulate it and get a third-party software like Joy2Key and map everything that way.
>>12038338To be real, the controls are kind of bad. It's hard for me to remember a time when I didn't know they by heart, but I would compare it tank controls like in Resident Evil. Like that game though, it's very rewarding to practice and learn how to move effectively. The Playstation and Saturn versions might be more accessible, but those versions cut down a lot of content. They remove a lot of world elements and textures, have lower resolution, remove a lot of the FMV's (the ones they keep have been gutted for quality,) and the sound quality takes a dive too. The only thing that they do better is that the screen scrolls smoothy with the character rather than snapping into place at intervals. It's so much more worth your time to play the PC version.
I get the feeling that even fans agree that controls are just plain bad.maybe it could have remaster with updated controls and gameplay but that is easy thing to fuck up.
>>12035101>>12036053I thought they were made using an updated Ultima 8 engine. Can't you just use the mouse for almost everything?
i'd play a Crusader: No Mercy
>>12039718Not while EA holds the rights.
>>12038882Surely someone can fix them
