What are /vr/'s thoughts on Gitaroo Man?

I never got past the mariachi skeletons.

Fucking awesome. Game is packed full of love and care, COIL is an incredible band that did an astounding job at nailing multiple different genres, the game is reasonably difficult for a casual playthrough, and Master Mode demands you to perform at a level that even seasoned rhythm game players will get a challenge out of. It's a game that has a reputation that is more than well deserved. It's an excellent video game.

Cool Cool Toon is another one of these kinds of games that doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I think Gitaroo Man has the better music overall, though.

As an aside, he's all the separated stems for the songs in that game.

I forgot to mention in this post - the game has support for multiplayer, and there are Gravillian exclusive endings to every song that are totally different from the story mode finales. It's worth it to hear every one of them at least once.

Versus Zowie adds a harmony to the charge phase in that song - sounds fucking great.

I held onto the ps2 as my primary console for long time. I really tried to get into rhythm games like this and the one where you play classical music. But I’m just no good at them.

I liked the guitar parts but I didn't like the parts where it was like samba de amigo.
>>
The shark song is the hardest part of the game because it's anti music.

I don't know about that.
I played sloppily and missed tons of notes on my Master playthrough. Unless you mean getting a good rank is hard then yeah, it is.

Then again I played on PSP so maybe it was more lenient or something.

My thoughts is that anyone interested in musical games should play it, even if the guitar isn't their favorite instrument.

The PSP version is notoriously easy to the point of neutering the difficulty. It has about 1/4th the difficulty of the PS2 version. I would honestly go so far as to say they're completely different experiences - many players have reported never being able to clear Sanbone Trio on the PS2 version. Not just the song, but the intro. I urge you to replay the game on the PS2, and tell me your thoughts.

I love rhythm games and play guitar but I think the gameplay would improve with a hex gated stick

Super underrated. I'm sure you knew that already though

I really lack rhythm, but its charm just overwhelms that aspect. A fine departure from all the Chinese strategy and thousand Chinese mook killing games Koei tends to release.
