The anon who added the new monster (and the one who added the decorations too I guess) didn't include the Decohack file so I haven't been able to add this chaingun replaecment to the WAD proper. Let's make sure we're including the Decohack file if we use that sort of thing, anons - otherwise adding stuff will get difficult later.

The gun could use a little more polish on the recoil frames, but for what it's worth, this is already pretty fun to use and is much nicer than the old chaingun. Damage, spread and ROF all remain the same.

ZIP has both the latest HOTPOTATO.wad as well as the chaingun replacement with its relevant assets. There have been no changes to the map.

I'm recommending The Citadel too. It's that good. A perfect blend of Reckoning and Ground Zero content (and some new), much more so than Call Of The Machine. I'm also seconding Sonic Mayhem. Very high quality unit.

Then there's Zaero and Oblivion. Great commercial yet not official expansions.

Howerer nobody else is taking the charge of Duke project, so I have to continue. I can't fail these mappers. I promised them.

So in short, I'm willing to step down, if another project leader rises, but if not, I'm making sure that this gets released. But if you are not wanting to take the charge of Duke project, don't accuse me of shit I have not done. You are only shitting on Duke by doing that.

1. Like I said I fear the project will be judged unfairly, if I continue leading. /vr/ has already decided that I'm also mm guy and Peter, no matter what I say. Added sewers accessible from a fountain. Right now they're just a square room. I think they should be a big area on their own in the future. You should do some fights and mb find a key to unlock a sewage pipe.

Added sewage pipe that leads to outdoor area. Also a fight here should be more interesting than just two cybers. Something worthy of a plasma gun.

Added backtracking cave to the "facility" entrance. You can also take a peek into the outdoors area by finding anon's secret >>12038607 (which is pretty difficult imo) but the bars will be locked.

Dudes love to lean back on the plasma because it's easier to just fire and forget than having to worry about spacing and splash damage, but make no mistake, the RL has always been a top tier weapon. Just finished watching this.
I wasn't expecting much, but It's like someone just halfway read the game manual and looked at some character screenshots before shitting this thing out.
The plot is almost kinda interesting at the start, but quickly gets pretty muddled, and then just devolves into killing 'god' with the power of friendship like 99% of weebslop does (I'm not joking, Elexis literally calls her mutated dad a god).
Animation often pretty janky.
The typical monotonous bugman pseudo-classical soundtrack doesn't help either.
It's hard to call it a cashgrab since it would have been so niche at the time - being an anime based on a western computer game.
It just seems pointless.

Blood is one of the few games that I immediately replayed on Well Done after beating it on Lightly Broiled. WD adds some fun tension and makes the game satisfying when you know the general layout, a few secrets, where a douchebag cultist is waiting so you can blow him up etc. etc.
That being said I wouldn't recommend a first timer starting on it especially in the case of E1. It's easy to ammo starve yourself and waste your dynamite before you get a chance to get used to it.

CotM has so many weird design choices I don't even know where to start. The most praised level (Corpse Run) is just a slaughterfest with no real level design, they re-use bosses constantly, so you kill the Makron about 7 times by the end, they shove last minute expansion medics into boss fights just as a fuck you on some maps and the "twist" at the end would have been cool if it wasn't for the Strogg creator being a couple of shamblers somehow. It's just MachineGames desperately wanting to make their own Arcane Dimensions and once again failing to understand what made that good. But hey, they slapped in a rainbow flag and snubbed the "problematic" iron maidens for having big boobs, right?

Played through Gossip's first 2 maps out of spite. I wish I could love this wad but man, Touchdown doesn't guide the player back to points of interest *consistently*. He does it most of the time, but then lets you figure out that hitting this switch lets you progress through the map by going to a completely different area you need to take 5 detours for. Oh, and the automap is mostly removed, good luck finding locked doors you passed by on the beginning of the map!

I wound up just cheating through multiple points because it's just not fun to run over damaging floor with 4 health and finding out there's barely any health around. He could have just removed the damaging floor effects too, but no, it stays the same.

The combat in map 01 is fine to actually pretty good, but 02 is really not a lot of fun. It has its moments here and there, but then you get stuck in a shoebox with imps, then pinkies, then HKs, then revs and I'm surprised there isn't a SINGLE archvile in there.

I wound up getting the map open in UDB to hunt for secrets and had a bit of an aneurysm, but I did track down the one secret that requires 3 specific switches to be hit...and it's just a Ribbiks-esque areana fight with a cyber and like 30 HKs + revs.

I don't mind challenge wads or slaughterslop or whatever the term for "here's 50 midtier monsters, go kill them and don't die lmao" genre of map is now, but Jesus Christ. I was expecting at least a BFG or a SSG in this map because the plasma and RL don't CUT IT.

I don't know what I was expecting given I tried playtesting Gossip and map 03 just pissed off, then when I asked the guy to add a SSG somewhere for the sake of at least getting through the grind quicker, he said he saw it as a cheat weapon. Yeah, really.

I probably will just delete this wad from my computer. Map 03 is way too fucking convoluted and huge, it's impressive but good lord, man. That thing takes longer than most *episodes* to clear, and it's gonna grind all the way through on top.

Clearly E4M1 is the slaughterest of the slaughterwads. Jokes aside, I meant those fights where you get point blanked with dozens of HKs and revs in a pretty tight space while a cyberdemon (or two) shell your ass until you break through the swarm of weaker monsters one way or another. I wouldn't call Gossip slaughter but good God does it grind its ass on the carpet.

Gossip was a memorable experience but not altogether in a good way.

The dude has serious skills with the vanilla textures and crafting an atmosphere, the bespoke music helps a ton with that, but he got too up himself working on it.
02, 03, and 05 were fun for a while, then they stopped being fun, and I was still fucking lost.
Of course they have the least useful automap art. I think I had made 59 map markers by the end of 03.
06 and onward revitalized my interest for their relative linearity, I'd recommend giving them a shot, but this is also where the "guess correctly or die" cyb and vile setpieces start coming out. I have no clue how you'd FDA some of these maps.
I finished it since I'm weak to wads with magnum opus syndrome (it took me 4 days with saves), I saw a lot of good stuff, but I don't know if I'll ever replay.

Scythe's whole idea is it starts so easy it's boring and ends more or less harder than Plutonia, but the first one was also speedmapped and definitely could use more Polish.

Scythe 2 is better in every regard but you might want to sit out its last episode.

A cyberdemon could always potentially waste you through overhealth.
Hell knights don't do 105 damage unless you're running some wacko dehacked mod. You got flanked by something or things, easy to experience in late-game Scythe.
A cybie can take 5 BFGs and live if enough tracers miss. It should be dead with 2, 3 if you're under pressure.

Nice, finally beat Call of the Machine. I think Machine Games could have put a bit more effort into it, half the episode was a lot of fun, and the other was just bullshit for the hell of it. Mutants are annoying and very damaging opponents, and I noticed hating the levels more when they showed up. The final boss was outright unfair with the sheer number of the things scampering around. Still, I notice anons earlier in the thread recommended the Citadel as more Quake 2 content and I bet it'll have more polish than this.

With the addition of the Decohack file, I ported over the Legacy of Rust monsters and peppered a handful of them throughout the map. I also added Doom Retro's "Blood color" field should anyone want to use it for their custom monsters.

My solution right now is to temporarily activate freelook via a mouse key and only look slightly up or down so I can actually aim for those enemies. I still sometimes get nauseous but it's not quite as bad.

The zoomers who jumped on Quake mapping after Trenchbroom came out literally didn't even play the game in many cases. You can find old messages of many of them outright admitting it in their big circlejerk dicksword.
This results in them knowing nothing about how to place enemies or make areas that are interesting to navigate. They took one look at AD - the last hurrah of Quake oldfags - and figured that they just have to make big maps with excess details in order to receive similar praise.
If screenshots of the map make their Artstation account look good, then that's all that matters.

It won't have the same kinds of lows or highs as Machine does, it plays it a lot safer as a "classic Q2 styled" mod. It and 25th Anniversary are my favorite way to play older levels.
Might be a rough transition if you got too attached to Q2 remaster's switchspeed and nerfed turrets.

I think some if not most of the LoR decorations are fine since they were present in the Romero dumps, but let's not include assets original to LoR. To anyone who locks the wad (or the original anon who added them), please remove the LoR monsters - I'll look through the decorations to see which are in the Romero dump and make new sounds for the breakable lamp asap.
