This game MADE the Playstation and I'm tired of pretending it didn't. There are definitely other great games for it, but having it as an exclusive for the Playstation gave it a massive boost.
Fun fact: Metal Gear Solid was going to be called Metal Gear 3, but Hideo Kojima prefered to call it 'solid' due to working with 3d graphics.

it alright

>This game MADE the Playstation
Why? One word soundtrack. The Playstaion was all about the fact it could play CDs and Sony was the frist to push gaming to adults, expecially the post race and club scenes. Wipeout 1 and Wipout and wipeout 2097 and incredible soundtracks from what were at the time peak club scene stuff like future cound of london, the prodigy etc. Have a listen
1. The Future Sound Of London - We HaveExplosive
2. Fluke - Atom Bomb
3. The Chemical Brothers - Loops Of Fury
4. Underworld - Tin There
5. Photek - The Third Sequence
6. The Chemical Brothers - Leave Home(Underworld Mix 1)
7. The Future Sound Of London - We HaveExplosive (Hero Killing)
8. Prodigy - Firestarter (Instrumental)
9. Fluke - V Six
10. Daft Punk - Musique
11. Source Direct - 2097
12. Photek - Titan
13. Orbital - Petrol
14. Leftfield - Afro Ride

Sony was flexing on the competition. GAmes now had music not just as good as the best club stuff, it WAS the best club stuff.

I think he just wanted to say it's where moviegaming began and he's right, in spite of FMV games even

Delusional Kojimbo ass rimmer. The PS1 had already conclusiively won the generation by late 1998. Tekken, Wipeout, Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy, Ridge Racer, Resident Evil and countless other franchises did far more for the PS1 than the original Snoy moviegame.

literally no one has ever claimed mgs wasnt an important ps1 game? its the most normie pilled mainstream shit on the whole platform.

This isn't like the N64 where everyone bough the console for the same games. Yes, MGS sold well, but different people bought the PS1 for completely different games
>>
ffvii made the ps1 and its not even close. if square keeps ffvii on the n64, dragon quest also stays on nintendo, and the entire japanese market ignores the playstation, thus all the japanese devs favor the 64 and the ps1 becomes another forgotten footnote like the 3do.

It's also the only good metal gear game ever made. cut scenes are just about bearable because I guess Kojima didn't have the power to indulge his pretence at being a good writer back then.

It all went downhill from this point in the series on.

>The third meaning, deals with Square, you know, the company that does Final Fantasy.
>A square is a two- dimension thing. And I guess the president of Konami wanted this game to surpass Square. They wanted to make it a cube, you know, like solid 3D. So it's got that meaning. too.

>GT: Why didn't you give him a Russian name like Ivan or Borsch Snake?
>HK: If you look at all the characters in Metal Gear, there's a Chinese-American, a native American, and a Russian- American. Liquid Snake is British, but I didn't want him to be too British, and I didn't want the other characters to be too Chinese or too Russian. They're all hyphenated Americans.
This bit is interesting because he ensured Ocelot has that mixed origin as revealed in MGS3. And technically Liquid is American but partly raised in the UK.

this "game" destroyed the industry
>>
I started replaying this game for the first time since I think 2002. I'm not sure I ever replayed it past then, I know I beat it like four or five times during the 90s but I think I jumped on to MGS2 when it released for the Playstation and then played MGS3 a bunch after that, finally settling there as where I get my MGS fix.

It's interesting looking back at this game since I can't remember something that handled its presentation like it prior to release. It is basically a spy flick that emulates cinema fairly well, which is impressive but I feel like it comes at the expense of getting in the way of gameplay. I spend almost as much time skipping cutscenes on repeat playthroughs as I do actually playing the game.

That said, the gameplay is enjoyable, and Shadow Moses is feels expansive and gives you a reason to backtrack occasionally to find things like the Nikita or what have you. I feel like it could've used some more sequence breaking to make repeat playthroughs more entertaining, but as is the game is fine. My only minor complaint is the ranking system punishes you for killing guards and such which discourages you from using a lot of your weapons, but that can be ignored if you don't care about rank.

I am drawing attention to how purposeless OPs post is, as well as this entire miserable excuse for discourse revolving around canned phrases, projected ideas of masses of faceless people who are not present, moral stands that aren't moral stands. Everyone who thinks OPs post actually says anything can go fuck themselves. Bunch of human cancer.
