No I didn't know how to get past this properly. But what I did notice was that sonic is temporarily stationary when he turns into super sonic while the rest of the world keeps on moving. I simply made sure to get all the emeralds before this stage and collect 50 rings before this point. Then at the bottom of the barrel's travel I turned into super sonic. Barrel went up, sonic went under. Went on to beat the game. Genius.

I bombed the glass corridor in Metroid without anyone telling me to do it. Yes I am that good.

Heh... wish I thought of that.

There are four inputs and three buttons on a Genesis controller. Not counting start ofc.

Left moves you off of the barrel
Right moves you into the wall
A B C all do the same thing. Jump.
Up/down moves the barrel. More tellingly, Sonic is locked into a standing animation when he gets on the barrel. Jumping while in that animation is clunky and doesn't move the barrel much.

There were essentially five inputs and two of those inputs were correct. You have a 2/5 chance even with mindless trial and error. If you couldn't figure this barrel out you are a fucking retard.

I wish I could remember unorthodox ways to get past obstacles in games as a child, but instead just remember it was a norm when I was 5-8. I feel like there was a lot of I-Frame abuse I did in MegamanX3 to get upgrades.

>i won through mindless trial and error and not the logically correct way that the game intuitively shows you like every other obstacle
yeah, that's the problem. but keep showing how retarded you are.
>>
>>12039797
Actually I won through observation but I showed how even a retard like you could do it through simple trial & error. You got stuck on something extremely easy, you have a low IQ. Also Marble Garden Zone already featured directionally controlled platforms that utilized up and down. Tsk tsk you are dumb.
>>

How are they a retard for being able to guess a 2/5th probability in a reasonable amount of time? The only mindless one is the person who keeps slamming a square into a circular hole. Its not intuitive, but it shouldn't take longer than a few seconds to figure out unless you have a learning disability. And thats coming from someone who does.

>just press random buttons until something works
Sega game design was really something else

It wouldn't even have been an issue if the barrel didn't already respond to you jumping and progressively bounce lower the higher your jump.
>>
Can't relate. I am a simple man...

Sonic is one of those games where feedback is immediate and obvious. He jumps the frame you touch the button, spin-dashes the instant you release the button, damage and death feedback is also instant. Platform games in those days had immediate feedback to input or action, any game that didn't have instant response to button presses were blasted for shitty controls, cinematic platformers only got away with it because of their beyond-the-pale graphics and animation.

The barrel's feedback was very subtle and used a completely new mechanic that was never used again in the series. People got stuck because it completely broke the rules that were ingrained in you across countless hours of platform games.

This is not a hard game.
At all.
>>
>create a game where you hold right to win
>have one of the puzzles be a barrel that visibly reacts to jumping on it, but you actually need to stand still and press up and down
You'd never see this in a Mario game

>wait a couple seconds for cuticle to narrow
>aim at enemy head
>fire
Literally one of the easiest games ever made

I was an adult and it even got me for a bit, I think I was trying to get it to go down because I thought it could be a shortcut and accidentally pressed down, this was after a few playthroughs. Other times I just gave up after a couple of seconds. I've seen plenty worse like people trying to jump a gap in mario and failing dozens of times.

It gave Sega an edge, they'd attempt stuff that would get flagged in testing on a Nintendo console such as Sega Rally.

Completing the maze in Wonderboy in monsterland, I think the guy you talk to has a weird translation that misleads you

>read foxtrot comic about paige beating a boss jason was stuck on for an entire day by simply walking past it
>play postal 2 a few years later
>stuck on krotchy for like 15 minutes
>comic strip pops in my head

>leave mall without fighting back
>game continues as normal

It does if you bounce with the water shield and time your jumps right.

I think I tried that once and it caused the game to freeze, so I didn't bother again.
