>>12040174I'm actually at the point that I want to sell my collection. Having a collection to show of meant something when I was young. At a certain point it becomes pathetic.
>>12040269Just curate it and keep only your 9/10 and 10/10s. 8/10s or lower, to the ROMs folder. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>12040275not while I can net $3000 for my copy of earthbound.but maybe that is an 8/10. Maybe 7.

>>12040269unironically, sell it to retarded vidya simps for lots of money. I genuinely mean this.
>/vr/>collectionCollectors were ran out of this board years ago. And that's a good thing.truth be told, it's more like prices got so high most could not buy games anymore
>>12040174Away from moisture; so keep my dick pics away from your mom anon.
>>12040478Prices are not high for 99% of the rotting old plastic out there. Just the games that people buy to post pictures of on Reddit. You can still build a huge collection of retro video games for a couple of bucks each. No, you don't NEED a copy of some shitty meme survival horror game for it all to be worth it.
>>12040442I genuinely agree with you.
>>12040442Put it all into bitcoin. I promise you by 10 years you’ll be a millionaire.
ran out of space so I just keep them in cardboard boxes out on my back porch
>>12040174I store ttem on Ikea shelves make sure no direct sublight, antiquitarian books go in antique glass bookshelves but games go on ikea. An ikea billy bookcase holds 52 on a shelf and 350 in a case there is room for two rows on a shelf so 700 have three and a half sized one width down one wall and another three and a falf down another. The big box games go on top along with boxed hardware. Tapes and go in tape cases and into a lidded case that closes over them.
>>12040695If you're worried about direct sunlight, why not get one of those cabinet bookcases?
>>12040701They are not in direct sunlight, I was just reminding anons not to store games that way. With real stuff like antiqutarian books you need old bookcases where the gases in them that might cause bleachig to have gone, which takes a loooong time. Because you want glass fronted cases for them too the gas es released can buld up. Shiut like Ikea releases that stuff too and it would build up if you covered them. I'm not really bothered about games to the extent I need to treat them like 400 year old books. They will outlive me by 50 years at least and probably the lifetime of whoever inherits them from me. The consoles would die far sooner but I like fixing them up with new belts, lasers, capacitors, voltage regulators etc because I use all the gaming stuff, I pull stuff off shelves and play it. I don;t really plan on getting more either, I have enough and it's got expesive, they are not dirt cheap anymore and probably won't be again. Ikea bookshelves out of direct sunlight are fine.
>>12040497You used be able to get 200 unique games for 75 dollars/euros no one wanted them. When all the video rental stores shut down boxes of shelves were sold by weight, I'd say the majority of games on my shelves were about 20 cents. Same with the big box stuff no one wanted it, it was sitting mixed in with board games in charity shops for years and years. I've had literal crates full of consoles, controllers and handhelds given to me for nothing by charity stores just to get rid of it because they don't even want to get into selling electronics. Shit like PS1, PS2s, Xboxes, 360s, DSs, PSPs, N64s, gameboys old PCs. I've no interest in Nintendo though so I gave that to one of my kids who has a collection of it, my fault for getting them a 3DS for Christmas. O well. Even more interesting stuff like 2600s with big libraries or 8 bit and 16 bit machines with piles of peripherals and libraries was being sold off at estate/house clearance auctions for 50 and the auctioneers would be glad just to get a bid. All that has changed in the last 6 years or so. Even bullshit like a wii with a few games missing a controller or a fucked up old gameboy gets multiple bidders. I have hundreds and hundreds of titles to play from bulk buying as well as arcades cabs in emulation and 8 bit physical emulators loaded with thousands more on top of the real deal like the retrogames machines. I must have something like 20,000 games on tape about 5000 physical and all the consoles and accesories. I'm gud don't really need anymore>>12040497>No, you don't NEED a copy of some shitty meme survival horror game for it all to be worth it.Most of that stuff I got when it was sold used ex rental or got a few on release (all works fine). I'd have this stuff even it was worth zero though because I just like playing games. Have a movie room too which is a 5000 box set and DVD/Bluray library. We use that a lot too but again, I have basically everything I want at this point for that too.
What I DON'T have is any subsciptions, no netflix no disney plus no nintendo, no apple no hulu, no sony,no mcrosoft and I won't ever either. the only thing I have online is some stuff on steam but I have a about 500+ physical media PC games and old machines for them that are in a rack with a KVM, plus tape stuff, I'm done. I never even saw video games as ever becoming collectables to begin with. Stuff like antquitarian books, flintlock pistols, gemstones, artisanal gold jewlery, art, sure. I have a gunroom and an art room and a vault and they are fine too but they have real inherent value. I don't see that with games they are just for using. Its equally wierd to see the price rises going on with niches like horror and sci fi movie genres or stuff from the 70s. The last few years even that has gone to what for me are crazy prices but it was considered garbage for a decade+. You're probably too late for games but might catch the end of movie/show physical media, its still in charity shops (although shrinking fast now they used have mountains of it, now it's less and less shelves) and at auctions from house clearances which is probably your best bet.
>>12040178fpbp
>>12040772I doubt you will stop buying stuff
The wierest one is watchinng good books dry up in parallel with everything else. You used be able to oick up a compleet set of peguin classics for fun by rummaging in charity shops for them for almost nothingm same wit sci, fi, fantasy, philosopy, politics, economics, literature and greek and roman etc Now that's drying up to and all that's left is shitty lifestyle stuff and thrash biographies about nonenties. That's down to people in universities using PDFs instead of actual books anymore I suppose. People don't have space I've been very lucky in life thank God. I hate this new must be online must be a subsciption amazon crap . Loathe it, quality of games and movies fell off a cliff in parallel with it to.
>>12040804I already have anon the only things I still buy are bits to repair things, I'm working on some 8 bits that I got years ago right now and recapping them. I'm reducing some portfolios in asset classes like real estate and expanding a litle in agricultural leased land but that's not really what the thread is about (asset management). It's about storing games. Stick them on Ikea shelves and use them, they will be fine.
>>12040174In a bin
>>12040804The only thing I'm still remotely interested in buying are antiques and like everything else I have seen prices skyrocket in the stuff I'm interested in and I'm not really temped anymore. I like value when I buy things not paying 10000 for something that to me is worth a 2000 tops. I mainly like building new workshops and stables and things like that rn. I've lots of toys and like using them there is a point you tap out and have enough variety in what you have at hand.
>>12040828whatever floats your boat. Home server and lan setups worth a fuck are more ongoing cost and hassle than some shelves IMO,. I doubt you use LTO tapes either.
>>12040816>Assets management >Real estate >Agricultural farmland >IKEA furniture Sounds like a larp but I believe you
I throw all of my stuff into these cheap, stackable DVD bags and keep them in the corner of my closet. It's not elegant but I can still see my games and pick them out at a moment's notice.>>12040269You're a fool if you were buying games just to coomlect and show to others. I don't understand why so many people spend thousands to "get into the hobby" only to wind up with a bunch of physical media they're never going to actually play.
