I have a Wii U and a GameCube DOL-101. To play GameCube games on real hardware on a modern display, I'm finding it more convenient and cheaper to simply connect my Wii U with HDMI and use Nintendont. Is there really any noticeable advantage to investing in expensive cables and upscalers for my GameCube, potentially hundreds of dollars, instead of just using my Wii U? Will I really get such superior image quality compared to what Nintendont outputs with settings like deflicker off, force progressive, etc? The only disadvantage I can think of is that I lose access to my Game Boy Player, which is a shame, but I also end up playing GBA with open_ags_firm on my New 3DS XL for convenience, so...
Sounds like you already have a great setup for emulating gamecube games over HDMI. Why spend hundreds of dollars if your needs are already met
>>12040310>emulating gamecube gamesWell, Nintendont is not an emulator, it just allows you to natively run GC games using the vWii mode, the only part that emulates is the hardware corresponding to the memory card and the broadband adapter. So, in theory, its compatibility is 100%, as if it were real hardware, hence my question as to whether the image quality I could obtain with a DOL-101 is really superior and worth the investment over just a Wii U with HDMI.
>>12040304There's no reason to use a gamecube unless you want 480i for some reason or you want to use the gameboy player. Wii U with nintendont is perfectly viable and it even comes with a performance boost on a few games.
>>12040304GC family guide>You want the Game Boy playerOG GC>You want the Game Boy features and the GB playerOG GC>You want 240p autismNintendo Wii>You want something that lasts longer, is cheaper, and easier to find, it's a jack of all tradesWii USo Wii U for people who don't care about the Gameboy player and GC for those who want a consoleized GBA. No reason to buy a Wii, which is a faulty piece of crap. Not that the GC isn't that, but a fucking consoleized GBA is really something.
>>12040384>>You want 240p autism>Nintendo WiiGamecube can play 240p gameboy games and swiss can force other games into 240p like the resident evil 2 port. Megaman collection also plays at 240p on the gamecube outside the menus.
>>12040389I mean, the GC does that. But the Wii is better than the GC for playing GC games because of the better performance of the Nintendont. GC nowadays is for Smash autism and GBA features.
When I was poor this was an unbeatable system for cheap and convenience. Now I got big bucks and autism but I won't forget the good times I had playing retro games on wii u
>>12040384>something that lasts longer, is cheaper, and easier to find>>>>>>>>>>>Wii U
>>12040413Wii U consoles are certainly less faulty than the GC/Wii and easier to mod.
>>12040414It’s impossible to get a faulty GameCube. Just install a picoboot and sd card reader on the serial port and it will last longer than our civilization. The Wii is different since stuff like the Bluetooth model failing will brick the console
ive never played a wii-u, i looked at the box, what is up with the camera pointed at you? why does every fucking electronic item need some consumer facing camera? i have always found it weird and distracting.
Another thinly veiled modern gaming discussion threadOP is a troll that keeps making these threads >>12038000. He saw the "handheld general" which in fact talks exclusive about modern hardware to play old games so now he makes these threads because he thinks he found a "loophole", baiting people into talking about off-topic stuff like the post above mineNew janitor can't come soon enough
>>12041016I'm OP. First, I did not make that 3DS thread, so fuck you psycho. Second, there is nothing on this thread that breaks the rules. I'm not responsible for what other anons talk about, so fuck you again, I'll talk with other anons about how to get the best GameCube experience on a modern TV all I want. Third, It's better to have people trying to take advantage of the actual GBA hardware on the 3DS or the actual GC hardware on the Wii U than people talking about emulated Chinese crap. So fuck you again.>>12040356>>12040384Thank you. That's what I expected but wanted confirmation.
>>12040304>Is there really any noticeable advantage to investing in expensive cables and upscalers for my GameCube, potentially hundreds of dollars, An RCA to HDMI converter costs like 10-20 bucks and can be used for any device that has composite out. Even the really good ones like this retrotink clone is only $50. I don't know where you got this idea that you need to spend -that- much just to play your games on a modern TV.
>>12041380And will my DOL-101 look better with that converter than what Nintendont outputs? Even if it is just as good I may consider it because of Game Boy Player access. Has anyone made any visual comparisons I can check?
>>12041380>Rca to hdmiAre you stupid? Do you know how shitty that looks?
>>12041550I use it for my PS2 and it looks fine to me. That's the console with some of the worst video output too, second only to a model 1 genesis. You just need a TV that can handle 480p without doing some extra bullshit to it.
I'm in the same situation as OP. Is it possible to enable full-range RGB and disable overscan via hacks? Jewgle and Plebbit are useless.
>>12041380Even with incorrect scaling and higher frequency, GC games play well on HD screens.
>>12040414Wii u has a memory leak that will brick your console if you don't turn it on every now and again. Fucking amazing console though, and funny how most of the games got remasters for the switch
>>12041016What thread are you reading weirdo? I can't see the issue here
>>12041627Seriously? My power brick died. I wonder if I can hold out for another two months. I have to spend money on real-life stuff.
>>12040304Is this a real box? I never saw a WiiU like that.
>>12041636Yeah I read about it on another gaming forum, there is someone working on a solution to back up your Nand and restore it but its not very practical at the mo, requiring a raspberry pi and some soldering. There is another way using an exploit apparently so it directs the wii u boot to data on your sd card. I think you gotta have it off for a few years for this to happen. I turned mine on recently and I think it had been about a year when I last switched it on. A quick duckduckgo search found many articles, here's one - https://www.techspot.com/news/105263-nintendo-wii-u-consoles-dying-due-memory-related.html
>>12040304I don't think it's worth it. Wii U is a mess of a console to even use, the homebrew scene being filtered thru the vwii makes the whole thing questionable. The Wii U experience is so sluggish to the point of being uncomfortable too. iirc you need to enable some fixes for Wii U's HDMI which does some insane image compression for non-wii u games. Everything from VC to BC is impacted and it looks horrible. Wii *had* a problem but its been fixed for a decade.>>12041641No, Nintendo never cared about gamecube as much as gamecube fans wanted them to.
>>12040413>You want something that lasts longerWrong>is cheaperWrong>easier to findWrong>it's a jack of all tradesLiterally only right point>>12040414>Wii U consoles are certainly less faulty than the GC/WiiHoly fucking shit you are wrong about almost everything. The Wii U is plagued with reliability issues.Your GC family guide is pretty alright but I may advise the Wii if you want to use actual GC disks for some reason or reliability is important to you. The Wii U has several build-quality issues, which combined with it's many points of failure and it's poor sales and therefore lack of replacement parts, and therefore higher prices, can make upkeep slightly more troublesome.
>>12041668>irc you need to enable some fixes for Wii U's HDMI which does some insane image compression for non-wii u games. Are you talking about the deflicker filter? It's not a problem for GameCube games with Nintendont and USB Loader GX for Wii games. Always boot the games using homebrew, avoid the official system.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzJth1XFCBUWhat's seen in this video also applies to GameCube with Nintendont. It's best to ignore what he talks about the framebuffer though because the aspect ratio was naturally taken into account during game development. And even though it may look more pixelated because the image is less processed, that doesn't mean it's correct.
>>12041581>Is it possible to enable full-range RGBsadly no, you must switch it manually to limited if your TV doesn't auto-detect the RGB range
>>12041016>New janitor can't come soon enoughYou're gay
>>12041016Seek help
This thread seems like an excuse to talk about the Wii U but it and the Wii can't ever be retro because they had a retro game store inside them.
>>12041668>No, Nintendo never cared about gamecube as much as gamecube fans wanted them to.Shame that's a cool color scheme. I have the black one which is meh.
>12040304Not retro.
>>12040304It's good
