Do you remember the first time a game scared you?
nah
I've never been scared by a game, ever.
>>12042613The Redeads in OoT, especially the art in the official guide. I was only 7 though
>>12042613You posted it. Though it was the mac version on a friend's b&w mac.
>>12042613The first one to scare me wasn't a retro game.
>>12042613i was playing Breath of Fire 2 at like 1am and got to that holy town where it plays the scary jingle when you try to leave and warps you back in and it got me
>>12042687I couldn't brave the Shadow Temple, I had to load up my brother's save to go beat up Ganon.
>>12042613Sinistar
>>12042613this shit when i was five
for me it was mario 64
>>12042613Yes
>>12042613Fatal Frame when long arms came out.
>>12042613Friday The 13th On Commodore 64. There is a screaming jump scare screen that pops up when Jason kills someone
I couldn't sleep for a while after this.
>>12042613Re2 when the licker came out destroying the mirror in the police station, last year I played again I know that he was came out but it scared me again
>>12042613I wouldn't say the "first" time but I remember a very early time. A friend and I borrowed Resident Evil (PSX) from an older friend and decided we'd be big ballsy boys and play it in the dark. Now I was 8 and the other boy was 9 and the music alone was enough to get us on edge. We'd play a bit, like shit really, until we got to the horseshoe Hallway in the upper floor where there's a prone zombie. My friend was like "nah, he has to be dead, right?" So we walk up to it, he starts chewing Jill's leg off, and we die almost immediately. The game over screen starts to show up and he SLAMS the power button on the PlayStation. I never played resident evil again until the DS port years and years later. Fun times.
lifeforce tenka demo
>>12042931Yeah that part got.me. The buildup with Shana really set the tone.>>12042613Picrel, but specifically the demo, since it lacked music. The loud crashing of the cubes, the implied hostility in their behavior, but mostly the death scene. https://youtu.be/yyLU1BCUfAw?si=AVjfQ5P-1ryuW6eK
>be kid in early 1980s arcade>see a new soace shooter game about asteroid mining>its volume is cranked to max>start playing, it is very past paced l8ke asteroids running at 10x speed>90 seconds in>BEWARE, I LIVE!>voicefrom the void of space but nothing happens>15 seconds later>first jump scare in video game historyhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=U8S5VSwcNag&pp=0gcJCRsBo7VqN5tD
Game crashes. The sudden flip from having a good time to a scrambled but still recognisable mess with a single harsh tone playing would always shit me up.

>>12043708wow, that's a cool detail, I didn't know the black tiger could destroy his own spiderwebsbut I think he dies to one magnum bullet anyway
>>12042613Good example - made me shit my pants.
>>12042613Probably this jump scare tier alternate Game Over screen from Adventures in the Magic Kingdom.
This one stands out.
>>12042613Ultima V when I met my first Shadowlord and it was my first ever realization that a game can have enemies you cant beat so should run away
>>12043689Gorgeous artwork
>>12042613To be honest, nearly every game boss scared the shit out of me so it's hard to single out one time. Took me a long time to really get into gaming. It would legit trigger fight or flight in my nervous system. Lagoon on SNES was one of the first games I was actually able to beat by myself. Super Mario Bros. legit still stresses me out more than any horror game I've played. lol
>>12045001turned it off after this as a child
>>12045018same, was playing it at a friends house and got spookedI still haven't played it lol
>>12042816fucking dogshit impossible level
>>12042976for me it was that and forbidden forest, both games made me nope the fuck out
>>12045001Good pick
The Master Hand evil laugh from Super Smash Bros really spooked me when I was 4
>>12045031>forbidden forestYeah, this was some childhood trauma. I play it NOW for the nostalgia goof but kid me had to at least have other people in the room to play it.
Kabal
being like 5 and needing my brother in the room to play the original castlevania
Laser Ghost for SEGA Master System creeped me out as a kid
