Why did late 6th gen games looked so washed out? Around 2004 it just happened. Gone were the beaches and the sun, hello brown and bloom. It’s especially notable when devs got lazy and mixed old models with new

There does come a time when devs in mid-development see the next gen on the horizon, some start getting the dev kits from the console-makers, and they just say "fuck it" and rush out whatever current-gen projects they have on the table.

How dare people ask for context and theorize about societal trends and norms of the period. Why not just have another console war circle jerk instead?

"Hardcore gamers" were emerging as an identity, the type that only wanted "mature games for mature gamers". They didn't want anything bright and colorful because they were insecure.

Contrary to what a lot of people seem to think, game design and aesthetics don’t suddenly and instantly change overnight on a specific date. During the 2nd half of the 6th gen, games were already starting to turn into what was common during the 7th gen

Best answer in the thread. Large games are fucking ass. Muh scope and scale and muh open world ruined gaming.

This except unironically
Not retro but when I saw the bike and the huge desert I completely lost interest in the new Metroid game. I think it's over for Nintendo. All of their franchises are becoming open world slop
