Will /vr/ games ever decrease in price? I want all this shit but $300 for a single copy of SH3 is insane.
>>12043802Either get a job or get a time machine. Prices aren't going down.
>>12043802It doesn’t matter. If you want to play the game then download it. If you just want it to have it then you’re part of the problem.
>>12043828I want to play on my CRT with original hardware.
>>12043834Soft modding a PS2 is pretty easy these days.
>>12043842Does it load the same have any glitches etc? My Fenrir saturn has issues with a number of games.
>>12043847I'm pretty sure the majority of games run without issue.
>>12043834I already said you’re part of the problem.
>>12043860>I NEED MY SAVE STATES!You didn't beat the game.
>>12043802We're living with a centralized, post-YouTube internet driven by recommendation algorithms, so there's constantly people wanting to buy old games. If prices do decrease, and that's not a guarantee for most games, it will take a very long time.
>>12043863Do a CTRL+F and search for the word “save states”. Now show me the first person in this thread to mention save states. That person is a schizo starting an argument with himself.
>>12043802Why would they go down? They aren't making more. You missed out. Accept it. Pay up or move on.
>>12043870NES games are cheaper since the people nostalgic for them are like 80 now.
>>12043802>$300 for SH3lol what. Maybe I should sell my SH2 and SH3, it's not like I plan to play them again.
>>12043802Yes but you have to wait 30 years
>>12043823Enjoy your ps2 full with mold game (yes that happens after 10 years no matter what).>>12043802You know those are scams don't? Either pirate pressed version (you can get them through chinese channels, even ps3 and ps5 forgeries) or is the original game but has mold so isn't playable (collectors mindset).Simply get iso, burn it and play on either emu or console.
Just mod your fucking PS2>B-BUTIf you're not going to take any advice, fuck off then
>>12043885Cope
>>12043885>Enjoy your ps2 full with mold gameIf this were the case no PS2 games would work anymore. I am playing my copy of Tekken Tag I got at launch Fall 2000 today.
Car enthusiasts would give a testicle for an easy, cheap way to enjoy old cars. Vidya enthusiasts have that but they still complain.
>>12043885Your tears taste delicious
>>12043885>Either pirate pressed version (you can get them through chinese channels, even ps3 and ps5 forgeries)Holy shit, there's services for that?>>12043880I swear people are buying this shit as investments.
>>12043802You've been asking that here since 2013. No. You missed out. Go collect for seventh and eighth gen. You're gonna disregard my advice saying they'll never catch on then cry about it in a decade when prices increase again just like you faggots did in 2013 when I told you all it'd happen to sixth gen.
>>12043924if it exists chinese will do a copy of it, bought a ps3 which seemed too cheap, then comparing it to others was worse in quality.most currently sold ps2 games on ebay are pressed chinese copies (like repros) sold at original price because either is good quality or the seller had the original case but the game itself was ruined by mold.i didn't believe that but sadly was true (throwed away lot of ps2 game that were on a conditioned temperature room but even in those condition the games got mold).
>>12043802The vintage market is a collector's market, bro. >>12043823They'll go down when there starts being a problem finding parts to keep vintage PS2s running.
>>12043916keep trying to derail from the truth, not even pirate games are safe (hence adviced to keep an ISO copy on external HDD).
kek I bought SH 1-4 all for about $50 total back in 2017
>will prices ever go downnot until our generation literally starts dying off. You'll be 70 years old.You have plenty of options, and I'm not even thinking of disgusting PC emulation>Buy Japanese copies before they get too expensive, SH2 and 3 have full english voice/subs>buy PAL copy for SH3, which has a 60hz option>get a CD/DVD burner and some good discs, quickly pays itself once you're a few expensive games in>use homebrew apps like OPL to boot the games, you can be super lazy and do USB method and still get a passable experienceAll you need is a modded PS2 console, and it's a piss-easy solution weighed against all the positives you get from it. You don't need to solder stuff in 2025. I own many copies of the SH games, so I understand wanting the real deal, but the gameplay experience on OG hardware is replicable for very little money
>>12043996>>12043802horror game fans are idiots$200+ for a green label copy of silent hill 1 is fucking hilarious
>>12044046There's nothing like owning the original of something. If your goal is to just play the games, then not owning them is fine. And some games are more rare than others.
>>12043991>but the game itself was ruined by mold.On plastic? I know VHS tapes get mold but plastic CDs?
>>12044051a game with a greatest hits rerelease is not rare
>>12043880This or we get a huge stock market crash.
>>12043802The prices has decresed, and I think they will again. That pic appears to be sorted by high price and the first entry is two new games, so that's going to fetch a premium. I remember getting the games for under $20USD each but as Halloween gets closer the games tend to get more attention. If you want SH3, the Japanese version is still very inexpensive, especially if you don't mind the "Playstation the Best" budget rerelease. The Japanese version is still in English so you can still understand the story.
>>12044052Yes, a cd is two plastic layers pressed, in the middle a thin film that actually contains the data. Over time the glue connecting them comes apart and moisture gets in and creates mold. The actual data is not in the plastic but in the thin layer, the plastic is just there for protection.
>>12044076>not having Eileen shaving simulatorNGMI
>>12044085but that game is bad
>>12044087All Silent Hill games are bad. They are carried by the soundtracks.
Doesn't the Japanese release of SH3 have an option for fully English text? I still have my US copy from when the game came out (same with the first, though I didn't get SH2 until the platinum hits release on XBOX)
>>12043802can't you just get a repro? they even work without modchip now
>>12043952>You've been asking that here since 2013.i doubt that,i bought silent hill 1 to 4 for around 50 bucks each in 2018 so they were probably even cheaper in 2013.
I gave up. I just bought an incredibly clean copy of RE2 dreamcast for $150 since they usually go for $200 and it's the best version of one of my favorite games so I just said fuck it.
>>12044140>dreamcast>not gamecube
>>12043802>tfw I bought silent hill 3 cib w soundtrack cd from my ex gf for like $10
fuck no. I just bought Record of a Lodoss War cause /vr/ wouldn’t shut up about how good it is for the last couple of days and because I love Diablo so I’m gonna give it a try but I’m pretty sure it isn’t worth the $72.46 I just dropped on it today to bring it home but whatever. Being a collector isn’t for the plebs, bro.
>>12043885The ps2 I found in the street 11 years ago has no mould on or in it and still works just as good as when I cleaned it out. As the other anon said, your tears taste delicious and my copy of sh3 cost me a tenner
>>12044164>KV-32FS12Holy BASED. Hope you are using these bad boys
>>12044169Yeah if I could find one that’s not a piece of crap. Any recommendations? Thinking of going to BeharBros desu.
>>12044272I use the HD Retrovision ones and they are perfect. Even has a switch to go from 240p/480i to VGA 480p.A little pricey at $65 but I loved it so much I bought a second pair for my office tv.
>>12043802Import it, you dumb fuck. The only reason to buy the hyper expensive US release is because of collectors value. The JP version has english language and the PAL version has 50/60hz selection. Buying the US release you're literally paying hundreds extra just so the cover has an ESRB rating on it.
>>12044275Sorry I meant Retrotink. Idk how the hd retrovision cables are but they are usually on point for everything else.
>>12043802No. Sorry kiddo. You will never be able to afford to impress other children on the youtube.
All the haters ITT.The point of having the originals is A. to play on original hardware B. because it's fucking cool to see the ads etc of the time C. the full retro experience means buying a guide or looking through the menu a thousand times that came with the disc. Burning a copy just isn't the same.
>>12044408There's nothing wrong with collecting, but don't whine about the prices.
>>12044078I have game CDs from the 1990s that still run fine, and all of my PS2 games too. All I've ever had to do was clean the laser lens in the PS2. This is all overstated

>>12044437these two are ps2 games from foid tiktok
>>12043802Yeah see the trick is to not give a shit about a piece of plastic that holds the data for the game. Digital goods are literally infinite and therefore worthless, morons who get scammed by paying for software are literally the biggest fools on the planet lmfao.
>>12044437SH3 is literally like the third most expensive ps2 game, and there's like 10000 ps2 games
>>12044441Am I supposed to know what that is?
I didn't start collecting until I had my house and was making well into 6 figures. It's just too expensive otherwise and I still sorta feel guilty when I buy like a Net Yaroze PS1 or something wild like that.
>>12044413Depends on the cd and where it comes from. I know for example there was an specific type of early ps2 cd that was notorious for getting mold.
>>12044275>>12044325I’ll give it shot. Buying it now. I was literally about to go this route:https://www.beharbros.com/product-page/kenzei

>>12043802Doubt it. I thought them rereleasing Ghost Hunter digitally would curb the price a bit, it didn't at all.
>>12044538>manchildren hoard video game plastic to play it>normies hoard books to read them
>>12043802prices plus the fact that all retro equipment and media will inevitably deteriorate to the point that you can't use them anymore is why i took the emulationpill. play all your games for free in one place and have them work correctly, and when whatever the computer you're running them on gives out, just migrate to a new one

Maybe in 70~100 years it'll go down. People dying thus maybe some of those games won't be junked and less younger people interested in games from almost a century ago.
Considering how old and studied these consoles/games are, its kind of surprising to me that someone hasn't figured out a way to make a reproduction that just works on original hardware and then flood the market with frauds to ruin the high valuation / low sales, via low valuation / high sales.PS2 I can understand maybe the DRM has some problems still unsolved or with accepted workarounds. But the more time passes the more I have trouble imagining people could distinguish real prints and presses to some clone.Or at least, good enough to fool people who aren't autistically grading and trading them.
>>12044085Lies and slander. I like Elieen just as much as Heather.
>>12045052Making high quality, perfect reproductions of this stuff simply isn't worth the investment for the companies capable of doing it on a large scale. They'd rather just make "eh, good enough" mass production bootlegs for cheap and still make a good profit. As far as I know, the closest thing to "perfect" bootlegs were from that PCEWorks guy, who was called out and shat on to the point that he started clearly branding all of his stuff. Most of the people making these don't have any vendetta against collectors to the point that they'd do something for the sole purpose of destroying the collector market. In fact if the originals were cheap and worthless, there'd be less of a market for bootlegs, since less people would be interested, nd those that were would just buy a cheap legit copy.
>>12044130Quit being pedantic.
>>12043802>>12043823>mfw when checked my collection and I have 2 copies of SH3 for some reasonI can make a quick 1k if I need to then
>>12043802>Will /vr/ games ever decrease in price?Way too broad a question. Will memed, very rare, or Pokemon games ever go down in price? No, the market is either fucked or way more people want them than copies that exist. Are there countless good to legendary games out there for under 30 dollars? Yes, you can get some of the best games ever made for a reasonable price. Expand your sphere of interest
>>12044650>>12044713How many copies are available on the open market and how many buyers are there? That's what determines the price, doesn't matter if 3 or 3 million exist if no one is buyingBut if there are buyers even the 3 million bucket will command a higher price>muh resellersCope. Coomlectors hoarding games that never re-enter circulation are more to blame than a handful of flippers sitting on 10 or 15 copies>>12044505Optical media does not "mold", get your head examined>>12044275HDR does not make Dreamcast cables, they are basically vaporware at this point>>12044140Isn't this just the PC version?
>Going by listed priceFirst fucking day on the internet or something?
>>12044067The market is about to crash and i mean the whole monetary system, most collectors will either change it for food or be ruined by their collections as it happened with the beenie babies before.Signals are all over, it will either be a war that eliminates everything and bring humanity to their almost extinction or the fiat money will crash and we will return to that lost age in history (the 200 blank years with no knowledge of what happened back then besides "we invented written systems again, instaured new governments and so on, or you don't find it weird most new world countries are 200 years old with similar ages all of them, USA over 200 years, mexico over 200 years, africa over 200 years, canada over 200 years, alaska over 200 years, venezuela over 200 years and so on).

>>12045280>Isn't this just the PC version? It's close but most people tend to like it better and it runs without any issues. Some people prefer the gamecube but I want harder modes and the BG art is better on DC.

>>12046115How did anyone play the N64 or PS1 versions yeesh
I like seeing the spines on my shelf. It's comfy idk why. Personal favorite is seeing the orange spines of Japanese DC games.
At what point, if ever, will PS3/360/Wii shit start increasing in price? Already got basically everything I could ever want from that gen, just curious.
>>12046328Zoomers would need to make money to buy them for nostalgia reasons. Considering zoomers are all broke, never.
>>12043870Your mass produced children toys arent a real investment and the value relies completely on the nostalgia memories of the people who grew up with them
>>12043802Something something supply and demand, also scarcity. Collecting retro vidya is a rich man's hobby now. Just emulate or mod your consoles to run pirate copies if all you care about is playing the games themselves.I did a little bit of collecting back when it was much cheaper, but I don't own all the shit I used to have. It sucks. I hate what collecting has become, so now I'm an emulation evangelist.

In reality, it's extremely rare (and usually the result of either poor storage or faulty manufacturing). Most DVDs will outlast their owners.
>>12043847The only time I've ever had any glitches are when running Square Enix FMV stuff, which was resolved by changing a setting in OPL to stop the cutscenes from chugging - I'm running off a HDD fyi and otherwise no issues.
>>12043885>Enjoy your ps2 full with mold game (yes that happens after 10 years no matter what). What? Speaking from personal experience with a sample size of about 30 games on eBay that came from all over the place, I've never encountered any form of disc rot. Not even for my dozen or so PS1 games. Either I'm the luckiest person alive or this is bullshit
>>12048549>on eBayFrom
>>12048549It depends on the disc. There are absolutely some discs which are prone to failure due to manufacturing defects, but they aren't the majority. There's some WB DVDs from the mid 2000s which apparently have a high failure rate, some early Dreamcast discs had a manufacturing defect which was apparently discovered early (but not before copies were sold - my launch Blue Stinger disc is now a dud), and other discs here and there seem to have the issue (like I think some X-Files DVDs). But overall, no, it isn't an extremely common issue
