Let's talk about the NIntendo 64, the fun machine, game discussion, tech support, help with buying or emulation, etc...
I recently played Yoshi's Story and I forgot how nice it feels to control, specially when you learn how to do some tricks like higher jumps or flutter cancelling.
30 melon runs are fun even if there's a lot of trial-and-error to get some, and those minigames are also tough to beat, specially the melon block delivery one.

Nintendo = manchild, troon, groomer
Sega & Xbox = mature, masculine, protector

You must have forgotten that /vr/ hates fun

Nintendo thread? More like groomers thread.

Yeah, I forgot this isn't a videogame discussion board.

Turok is unironically my favorite early 3d fps. The movement in it feels so slick and the weapons are satisfying. I liked 2 but the levels felt egregiously long and the weapons didn't feel as impactful.

how did they do it and why did they do it? Even the command and conquer port threw the towel and rebuilt it in full 3d

Just had a LAN party the other day and the one dude brought a very specced out PC with Emulation Station as a frontend.

The one console that ran terribly was N64.

Imo though, you're better off just using a MisterPi or a real N64 with a flashcart.

Anything else is laughable since even the better standalone emulators still have to be tweaked to not look absolutely awful.

Anyway just saying this since i love N64 but goddamn, there really is only two ways to play it correctly these days.
>>
>>12046897
I know most don't like it for understandable reasons, but I'm fine with the Switch Online emulator whenever I want to play something without much setup (specially if i want to play n64 stuff on a friend's house).
I do wish content uploads for it were more often.

zora swimming, an integral mechanic in its part of the game, costs magic which totally fucks its dungeon and a race minigame
also this is more minor but deku water skipping is harder to do, not as much momentum to it

You haven't lived until you play 4 player multiplayer on Road Rash with insanity bikes or mopeds or Bomberman 64 battle mode. Hell rush 2049 battle mode is top tier too.

Why not? You were a nobody if you didn't have a game on the Nintendo.

N64 was kinda shit hardware but it got saved by a handful of good devs. N64 won the long game by putting out the good quality shit that people still want to play today. Yamauchi was a massive cunt but he sure knew how to hire the right people

No, it just used anti-ailising, which made things blurry as hell.
>>
>>12050474
only on bad tvs
>>
>>12050474
everything was blurry on this gen, it looked much better on n64 thanks to floating point precision and perspective correction which the ps1 lacked

>>12045257
The N64 is Nintendo's best weed console.

PS1 has significantly sharper textures.

i meant the overall rendering looked better. I'd still take blurrier n64 textures over wobbly ps1 textures

>No, it just used anti-ailising, which made things blurry as hell.
It's not the AA that does that, nor the bilinear filtering, not even the low res textures. There's a separate blur step the hardware does to the buffer before display that's like 70% of the problem. The N64 hardware basically always outputs 640x240 so when you render at 320x240 it gets VA interpolated to 640x240 which sucks. But then as if that wasn't enough Nintendo used Samsung video encoders which are blurry as fuck. Then they didn't support RGB SCART because they are cock gobblers and even removed S-Video support from many regions and models.

The N64 could've looked like a lower res 3dfx, but someone involved in the video output design was a colossal idiot and took an amazing despite the flaws 3d renderer and then fucked it six ways from sunday.

2 is a funny beast. I don't want to call it a tech demo, because it's not it's a real video game with a lot of care and attention put into it, but especially the latter half of the game you can tell the lion's share of the effort was in the engine, the enemy animations, flopping their big massive dicks on the table with the enormous levels (can't fit that on a cart? Try us). It's just a shame that the gameplay falls over with enemies that are really annoying, weapons that don't hit hard or accurately enough, and chasing down hard to see key objects in tiny nooks and crannies only to get booted back to the beginning of a giant multi-arena'd level because you missed something. Turok 1 flows so much better and aside from some stupid bullshit with the chronoscepter pieces in fake lava pools and shit, it's a lot harder to get stuck trying to figure out which of the 20 keys you missed and where.

F-Zero X on the N64 blew my mind as a kid with how smooth it controlled and how fast it felt. I normally don't like racing games outside a few of the Burnout titles, but F-Zero X was a special experience that I still enjoy to this day as an adult.
Also peak soundtrack

>>12050881
Gasgano was my favorite with his tall skinny design and the lore tidbits I had read that mentioned he was a racer that preferred skill and fundamentals over cheap tactics like Sebulba
but when I tried to actually beat the game I played Neva Kee because I loved how his pod handled

I should play through that again sometime. I too generally care nothing for racing games, yet F-Zero GX is my favorite GameCube game. I didn't get into X quite as much but I did really like it. I think I unlocked more or less everything in it but it'd probably be worth just doing that all again.

If you have a summercart or everdrive the DD version is definitely worth checking out. There’s an english translation. Lots of new tracks, some new songs and a track editor are all good additions.
