How different would have the PS1/N64 era have been if Squaresoft actually made FF7 for the N64 like they were originally planning?
Get a time machine and find out.
A Sega System thread died just for this shitty "what if...?" bullshit.
>>12045712Hey man, my frog pictures are on another pc, my bad
>>12045693Final Fantasy would've died much earlier probably and the PS1 wouldn't nearly have been as popular as it was
>>12045693FF series would die early without nice looking detailed locations and FMVs. Xenogears, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story and other cool games that Square made with the FF7 money wouldn't exist.
>>12045779They still had Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Tekken and Tomb Raider. Rather, JRPG genre wouldn't be as popular
>>12045790I just don't think those would've made the console nearly as popular as FF7 did
>>12045783>FF series would die earlySo, it would be the better timeline then.
>>12045791They did, check the sales numbers
>>12045793A timeline without Racing Lagoon is a worse one tho
>>12045693FF7 becomes a Quest 64 clone
>>12045795Yeah, one made the others popular, checking sales numbers doesn't mean much in a hypothetical world now does it
>>12045804Maybe in Japan. If we talk about the US here, then Resident Evil 1 sold one million within 6 months. Tekken 2 sold one million within 4 month. Both of these happened before the FF7 release. And for FF7 it took a year to reach one million sales.
>>12045779Final Fantasy was still extremely popular and already was a Nintendo favorite. I seriously doubt this would have happened.
man all these delusions about how popular N64 were. they never stood a chance against the PSX for a whole universe of reasons, not just a single title. also the games that mattered most for PSX were the FIFA and Winning Eleven series.
>>12045693Wasn't this supposed to be FF7 and not FF6?
>>12045712kek
>>12046215No idea, but none of those characters look like FF6 characters unless that's supposed to be Locke.
>>12046435That's Locke, Terra and Shadow from FF6How do they not look like them?
>>12046451That looks nothing like Terra, she doesn't even have blonde hair in her portraits, especially not banana blonde like that
>>12045693Would the PS1 version also be made? My guess is if they made both versions then both would have been different. So they would have made an alternate version of FFVII for the N64. But this likely would have really been too difficult unlike in the gen before where Genesis and SNES games could often be different. So my guess is no PS1 version, but FFVII as we know it would still look drastically different from the one we know.N64 also probably would have been home to the rest of the FF games as well as getting a lot more RPG's. Doubt we would get Spirit Within either. PS1 FMV's and FFVII success convinced them that they can make movies. On N64 they wouldn't be doing FMV like we saw on the PS1. Despite how strong Squaresoft was back in the 90's this alternate version where they are primarily or exclusively an N64 developer would have led to a reality where they aren't as big. Maybe the primary RPG developer for the N64 but I also think N64 wouldn't have gotten the boost you may expect either. At most I could see it selling perhaps 10 million more due to having a stronger library since it lacks in RPG's. But still would sell less than SNES.What really sold normies on the PS1 was the FMV's. Without this the PS1 wouldn't have even sold half of what it did. I also think most people playing on N64 would naturally have preferred real time gameplay over turn based or lining up in a row style JRPG's.Saturn and N64 would have sold more units with PS1 selling less. But other PS1 games would have FMV and normalfag shit like GT so its not like PS1 would not have succeeded. There OP I gave you what you wanted. Hope you appreciated me putting all this effort into a reply.
>>12046471Thanks, we need more real discussion on this board. I'm not even trying to shit up the board.
>>12046465She is blonde, just in the game it's green for reasons
>>12045693It would have been just another game. Nintendo tried for years to get westerners into rpgs and failed. Sony knew how to market them and that's what made it a success.
