Best played with friends who know how to fend for themselves. Let's hear about your favorites, and discuss what games are best suited for casuals and core players alike. LAN and couch multiplayer stories are also welcome.
>>12046171It hasn't stood the test of time, but I'll still defend Secret of Mana for couch co-op. The art was gorgeous at the time. It's just that the story is simple and the game isn't particularly challenging. I beat it multiple times and the time I beat it with my best friend during a sleepover is still one of my favorite memories in life. I love you Phil. Hope you're still alive.
>>12046203Best regards to Phil. Can you really play that co-operatively? What would that even look like, turn based I suppose?
>>12046171I used to play a tons of online coop using emulators in the late 00's and early 10's.>Streets of Rage 1/2/3>Double Dragon 2>Chip'n dalesThose were our highlights, but we played a tons. We had 70+ms but we didn't care. I don't know how we did it, because we played well, pulled many 1CCs and even no miss runs together. These days I can't stand the tiniest amount of input lag.
>>12046213Secret of Mana isn't turn based. Two controllers. It's a 2D action game that plays a little like Zelda.
>>12046940Should probably play that some time soon.
>>12046171Battletoads Double Dragon, that game is so fun. They did a really good job with all the silly animations.
>>12046171Bubble Bobble is immensely fun and it's better with a second person. Great music too.
On the sega days I think I only really played Golden Axe and Streets of Rage in coop. The only other multi-player games I can even think of right now are fighting games.
>>12046171I enjoyed playing FPS's (Doom, Serious Sam, SWAT, etc.) coop more than deathmatch. But the one I played the most at lan parties was Diablo 2.
>>12046171Goof Troop deserves a mention. It has a handful of level ROM hacks too, which are better than the original.>>12046490Use RetroArch or Fightcade, both have rollback netcode that eliminates input lag at cost of micro-corrections of the game state.
>>12046490>>Chip'n dales>>12049323>Goof TroopThese. I say they're just as good today, if your friend can deal with old graphics. Bith can play simultaneously, no gay turn taking like in some games.Turtles games on NES and SNES. Half life on PS2. Super Smash TV. Good times with friends.
Me and a friend back then used to play Fighting Force on his Playstation, and we'd team up against the computer in Worms Armageddon on PC.Most of the time, it was either playing singleplayer games or against eachothers with everyone so that's sadly all I got for co-op.
>>12046171Action RPGs, specifically Diablo clones.Had lots of fun with Champions of Norrath and Return to Arms. The PS2 port could support up to four players simultaneously, local with a multi-tap or online. The fact that equipment changed a character's appearance (pic related) was an added bonus.>>12046203>Secret of ManaFond memories of this too. I posted once before about how I got this for Christmas. My cousin and I played it most of that day and got more than halfway through.I get confused when I see anons post here about "Spiky Tiger" and other parts they get filtered by. Even as kids, we both had played basic JRPGs (buy better armor; restock healing items) and cruised through most of SoM.
>>12049323>Use RetroArch or Fightcade, both have rollback netcode that eliminates input lag at cost of micro-corrections of the game state.yeah we didn't have that option back then
Gain Ground, Gain Ground, Gain Ground
>>12050006Based, Based, Based
>>12050006Fuck yeah dude, great taste.
