Xbox BC. PC port is broken dogshit.

If you already own the xbox version why not? The PC port needs patches for the audio to work.

I played it on Xbox BC because I don't really like kb/m and the PC version crashed on launch and I didn't really feel like finding a fix.

Aiming does genuinely feel pretty bad (acceleration is wonky and diagonal speed is way different than cardinal), however I don't really feel like that detracted from my enjoyment at all. It's not really a twitch aiming game, it's more about movement, overall strategy, knowing level layout and enemy locations, and utilizing your bullet time properly. I did two playthroughs, beat it on Dead on Arrival and had a great time. The story and atmosphere are the best part, and those are totally unaffected by the port.

Max Payne 2 on Xbox controls massively better, but I enjoyed it overall way less because the story, level design, bullet-time, and challenge level are just a huge downgrade.

Audio works just fine on my machine. Linux though. I did have to install a sound patch back when I played it on Windows 7.
>>
If you don't care for the mods then xbox version probably gives you the intended experience no problem. As long as you don't touch the ps2 version. The pc version at least steam sells is just completely broken so they should not even be able to charge money for it, but the patches you need are for once really straight-forward all-in-one iirc.

what are the essentials? do they give a max longcoat and give him overpowered abilities?
>>
>>12046694
I played it on OG xbox several months ago. It ran pretty smooth so I imagine xbox bc would be even better. Try xbox bc then.

It's like one tiny section of one area.

The main issue was loading between zones but it takes like 2 secs with Xbox BC

People who consider an original Xbox to play games in 2025 are brainrot and computer illiterate by default. So I will reveal a secret website: PCGamingWiki. This site offers the best ways to fix, patch and improve every popular (and even the unpopular ones) old PC game imaginable.

>Both. PC without mods

The original PC Max Payne was bundled with modding tools. It came with the MaxED level editor, animation tools, particle/ effect generator, packing/ unpacking tools. I use to make stages for the game. Shame that Max Payne never had a big modding scene. Max Payne 2 was a little more successful in this regard. Max Payne 2 has the same molding tools, but updates versions of them. Rockstar even hosting modding tutorials o their website for both games. They can be found via archive.org. It is kinda fun making maps in Max Payne 1. Max Payne 1 map editor MaxED is broken in newer OSes. It might have something to do with it using DX7. MaxED2 level editor works fine, but was upgraded to DX9. The original MaxED1 handled higher resolution textures than Max Payne 2. PG game is superior. There were some good iOS and Android ports of Max Payne 1 and 2 that have long since been de-listed. Those are close to the PC versions. Max Payne 2 on consoles uses the Renderware Engine. While the PC Max Payne 2 uses Remedy's MaxFX with DX9 and Havoc physics.

You are not a man.

It's a great port so if you prefer consoles then go ahead and play it on Xbox
>>
>>12046694
there is like a whole mod set up on steam that is recommended . just installs all the shit to make it work. but desu i prefer the xbox edition with ps2 behind that. then pc. idk why. also i kinda like playin the ps2 edition idk, but xbox is best
>>
>>12046694
PC with mods, Xbox if you want the reliable vanilla experience.
>>
>>12046694
PS2 if you want to actually time travel, that's where it was played
>>
>>12048115
>As long as you don't touch the ps2 version.
what a dumb thinng to post, ps2 was what made max payne a hit
>>
>>12050383
>>12050387
I doubt that because it says the game had been already celebrated as a hit on pc for 6 months before they got ps2 & xbox ports out (july-december 2001). Ofc your personaly experience might vary. But imo tough luck if your pc couldn't run it even on low, the ps2 version would have been extra low graphics and levels split into checkpoints. I read xbox also had to some splitting but was superior to ps2 so if you can choose why would you choose the ps2 version.
>>
>>12050016
>bro just have a worse experience because you can't muster the highly difficult act of not being a computer illiterate retard.
Yea sure.
>>
I play it on steam with the audio fix
I also have no problems with it on original disc on windows xp pc.
Console if you want more of a challenge

You're wrong but also a dickhead. Amazing.

Have one and a hself of titles but have to recap it, its an under appreciated machine IMO
>>
Console does an annoying thing where it’s always auto centering the reticle and you have to fight against it. Takes a whole five minutes to fix the PC version.
>>
>>12050016
Why are zoomers so tech illiterate?
>>
>>12051109
Most people are. Boomerlennials want to act like everyone of them were tech literate gods when most only use consoles.
