>download arcade game rom >run the game in an emulator >set difficulty to 1>have fun ahhh feels good to finally be able to enjoy arcade games with a fair difficulty
>NOOOO you have to set the difficulty dip switch to eat your quarters just like the developers intended.

>>12048427You don't seem to realize that multiple arcade boards of the same game were released. They were called "revisions" and had new updates and fixes to the game. Mame doesn't have all the revisions properly dumped for MANY arcade games.
>>12048451uhh okay?
>set difficulty to 1You did ___ beat the game.
>>12048453Are you dense? The AI gets changed between revisions. Adjusting the "difficulty" in Mame doesn't mean much when yoh don't even know which version you are playing. To make matters worse, Mame is notorious for being buggy and causing problems. This is a well known issue. Take Mortal Kombat for example. The AI does not play the same between Mame and the arcade board. Mame hasn't fixed it.
>>12048460So?
>>12048510I'm going to strangle the life outta (you).
>>12048427My local pizza parlor had MvC2 and I was always able to 1 credit clear it, I'm pretty sure they had it on the lowest difficulty for some reason. I generally suck at games but I would always play MVC2 at least once while waiting for my pizza because it was fun getting to the end. So they definitely got more money out of me than if it would have been more difficult. Usually with arcade games I play once, die immediately, and think fuck this game I'm not gonna have my money stolen.
>>12048460There is no good version of Mortal Kombat AI, it's all input reading trash.
>>12048460>The AI does not play the same between Mame and the arcade board. Mame hasn't fixed it.What do you mean? Is it harder on MAME?
>>12048571He's full of shit lol
>>12048571It's been a while since I checked in on this issue. Iirc, the AI is easier and dumber on Mame. The AI characters don't respond like the AI on MK arcade boards. That's why serious retro MK players train on original hardware. If you don't believe me, you can look up the issue yourself. It's a known issue in the retro MK community. Mame doesn't work right with MK. They can go into much more detail about it than I can if you are truly curious.
>>12048537My pediatric dentist had a Ms Pac-Man arcade game in the lobby set to free play. So as a result, I didn't mind going to the dentist as a kid and I had loads of fun. My sister and I eventually got pretty good at it. By the time we were teenagers we'd both beaten it at least once. Completely brilliant move to keep the kids occupied and entertained.
>>12048460>yohEither a phone poster or someone who's fingers are so fucking fat he hit H trying to get U. Either way, not someone to take seriously.
>set difficulty to 8 >have fun because it gets challenging at least a few stages before the final one>1cc game several times with all characters available or whateverIt's a (You) problem. Especially if it's a game where you fight CPUs because there are almost always exploits or they can simply fuck up.
>>12048942>exploitsYou didn't beat the game
>>12048626Actually really interesting, thank you for the useless knowledge I will never have reason to repeat but also never forget
How do you even change the difficulty? I'm using retroarch and there's no option.
>>12049573At high level it's the only way you can beat the CPU consistently since they do input reading and have frame-perfect reactions. You don't have to treat it as an actual person who can play mindgames with.
>>12049606Rclick->Core Options->Dip settingsSometimes you will only find an option like this, but that just means the difficulty can be changed from the in-game system menu. This game is Dodonpachi DaiOuJou
