do you ever buy bootleg carts, /vr/?

I find it as an accessible way to still enjoy the same tactile experience of switching games that is lost on a flashcart
>>
at that point just buy a everdrive or something anon
>>
>>12048474
nvm just reread the post. just swap out sd cards or something idk
>>
I only buy originals, personally.
>>

The tactility only applies to the real game at the moment. Bootlegs feel like bootlegs. They look like shit, and their texture feels cheap. If I'm actually shelling out money om going for the real deal, otherwise I'm using a Flashcart or emulating. I'm not pissing away money on trash. I could put that money towards the real deal or something else nice.

take the cart out, put it on your table, then pick it back up and re-insert it. Maybe throw it in a drawer and rummage around before grabbing it if you want more authenticity. there's no magic to the game's container
>>
Bootlegs are based since they lower the market value of overpriced games. There are plenty out there that are perfect so you have idiots like this >>12048483 who don't even realize many of his games are undetectable fakes.

thats some special form of autism or what ?
>>
Bootleg carts are a no for me. Either get the real stuff or not and even if it's to have something that looks nice on display or your collection or something, deep down you know it's not the real stuff and not something to brag about.

Might as well just get an EZ Flash Omega if you want to play on real hardware.

I mentioned this in the other thread, but I'm refurbishing a copy of Pokemon Silver and I want to know if there are any obvious tells for bootleg ROM boards. I kind of expect the case and label to not be perfect copies, so I want to be able to prove the board itself is legitimate at the very least.

Undetectable reproductions of video game don't exist.

In general the most obvious tell tale sign of a bootleg board would be the lack of proper markings.
Genuine boards will almost always have gold markings all over the board signifying different component locations. The ROM chips themselves will also have markings on them which are well documented and can be cross checked online. With Silver for example, you want to find the marking DMG-AAXE-USA on the chip (for NTSC-U). These markings are very hard to counterfeit, and in general sourcing chips from that era are practically impossible and pretty much unheard of.
Modern bootlegs are usually made with off-shelf parts sourced from ewaste, which look very different to the chips used in the original manufacturing process. I've read that lots of SRAM based GBA bootlegs are made using chips pulled from old routers.

I would buy one to turn it into an RTC cart if that's even possible

>NOOOO0 you dont understand
>i NEED the original 30 year old plastic
>NO OTHER PLASTIC WILL SUFFICE

That's how I feel, yes.

nta but instant access to infinite content ruins the experience for a lot of people
the old story of setting up an emulation machine with a full library of games for all retro consoles complete with cover art and then browsing it every once in a while, playing random games for a couple of minutes and then just quitting
if you don't feel that, good for you
some people are going back to physical media to combat this
I've done it with music and books with great success
it feels very good to pick up an album, take the disk out, put it in the player, go through the leaflet, and just sit back and listen to the entire thing instead of zooming around from song to song on a streaming platform
I haven't done it with games yet because honestly I mostly just play modern games, but I've been investigating alternatives in /vr/ because I want to get back to it but the prices are ridiculous
repro carts look like an interesting alternative
>>
I've been scammed once or twice yeah. Repros are fucking stupid and you should just buy a flash cart.
>>
>>12048456
Get a flash cart
>enjoy the same tactile experience of switching games that is lost on a flashcart
Counterpoint: this is stupid. Also, buying fakes only validates scammers
>it's funny when stupids get scammed
is not an argument. It's cheaper, faster, and morally upright to emulate or use a flashcart
>>
>>12048858
It's more ADHD about being able to focus on one game at a time
>>12050154
>>12050065
flash cart is tolerable if I only load one game on it at a time, which at that point is basically the same experience
>>
>>12050506
I have a system where I intentionally pick a few games and move them into the root folder away from everything else, but that requires the self control to not go browsing for more until I'm finished with a game.
>>
>>12048456
these install a chinese mind control program

>>12049973
>I would wear fake designer clothing
>>
>>12050562
so you admit that you only care because you can't show it off
>>
>>12048456
You didn't beat the game if your purchase didn't directly fund the continuation of the franchise.
Sorry, second handers.
>>
>>12050562
You realise designer brand materials are cheaply sourced right
>>
>>12048474
I have a flash cart and still buy $10 repros of games I want. Ten dollars is nothing to me.
>>
>>12050609
throwing money away is dumb no matter how much you have
>>
>>12050636
it's such a small sum that being a bit frivolous with it is part of the fun.
>>
>>12050637
at least you recognize that it's stupid behavior
>>
>>12048456
I emulate like a sensible person
