It's actually fucked up how much Jason Page's music elevated GT1's atmsophere. Fuck jazz fusion, fuck alt rock, when I think of Gran Turismo I think of grimy acid.
>>12048885Back then, Gran Turismo was the only racing game that managed to filter out all my low IQ friends from the other ones.>hey, let's go over to my house and play PS1>what games are we going to play?>gran turismo!>ah man, come on... this game is too hard!

>>12049673I'm partial to 1 because of nostalgia, but it's also the most unique GT. The physics are so exaggerated and arcade that it stands out from the rest. It's fun taming the nervous nature of the cars. The vibes -- ui, music, graphics -- are special. The career mode is short but doesn't overstay its welcome.GT4 was the culmination of years of work, the last GT with a career mode worth playing. Sheer content, fun events (endurance aside), always something to do, cars that feel unique and distinct, you'll take a long while before you get bored of it.GT3 I rate it a bit lower because it's a rushed game and suffered from it. Not without its merits but the career mode can get grindy and tedious, the content is lacking, the physics and driving feel are a bit strange to me, like the game has the wrong analog sensitivity (in fact it's much better to play it with d-pad) and the cars don't feel in contact to the asphalt, while also feeling glued to the road, weird feeling. Cars also can feel samey when driven. But it has grown on me over time despite everything. The license tests are challenging and fun. The race music is better than GT4. The graphics are pretty and gamey, far from the more realistic look of its predecessor. It's still worth playing.GT2 is the one that I just find myself bored with immediately. Even the relatively new A-Spec mod failed to breath it new life to me. My problems are numerous: terrible loading times for everything, dogshit framerate on real hardware, featureless driving feel in need of some quirk that makes it unique. Shitton of cars, but they feel samey. Boring career progression, events are aimless and not restricted/defined enough. Some of the worst designed and most difficult golds (and not the fun type), the race music in western versions is horrible. It doesn't click with me. But there's some charm underneath, the menus and their music are nice, some exclusive tracks that are fun, but that's where the appeal ends for me.
4 > 2 > 1 > 3Most of the cars sound the same though, kinda makes me not want to try all of them

>>12049842GT7 brought back some of the classic career mode magic but not retro.

>>12049842I like 2 because it has some European market cars that never returned. I wish I could drive those 1999 BTCC race and road cars again.
I never properly played GT4. Is it worth playing through the Spec II mod and its QoL features, or should I stick with the original release?
>>12051547there is zero reason to not run the mod.
>>12051547IMO, Spec II isn't that much of a revolution. There's some QoL here and there, added customizability, new events... but then some drawbacks (easier AI, and genuinely broken in Opera Paris), and many cars drive differently because of subtle changes (they ruined the Yellowbird, my favorite car in the game). It's ok that the mod exists, but it's not mandatory. Wake me up when they do something like A-Spec for GT2.
