Looking for some NES games. Based on what I got, what more would you recommend?

As a bonus:
>Zelda 1: Some say this is best played with the Redux patch, but it may change too much for you. I haven't tried it yet.
>Metroid: Saving + Map: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1186/
>Contra: Patches to translate the superior Japanese version, enhance the title screen, and set the game to the hardest difficulty from the start:
https://www.romhacking.net/translations/1451/
https://www.romhacking.net/translations/7271/
https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4884/
>Mega Man 3: I personally like the Japanese logos, all of the games except for 6 (I think) have one: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6694/. I would not recommend using "Mega Man 3 Improvement" unless you are okay with unoptional level design changes.
>DK Classics: There is a version of NES DK with the cement factory added into the game, I believe it was part of the Wii virtual console or something like that.
>Dr. Mario: Get Turbo (https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6158/), then (https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/8878/).
>>
>>12051270
Forgot:
>Mario 3
A patch to remove the annoying flicker on the HUD bar: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/7713/. You should also download the Nintendo e-shop version of Mario Advance 4 and patch it with the SNES color restoration patch for the best experience to play the e-Reader levels.

Between solid original titles and unique ports of existing games I think the NES has one of the best and most memorable libraries of all time. I could probably keep recommending games all day if I wanted to.

>1943

The games that have held up the best are the arcade games and shmups.

Arcade - Donkey Kong 1-3, Defender II, Gyruss, Galaxian, Galaga, Popeye, BurgerTime, Pooyan, Mappy, Sky Kid, Rolling Thunder

Shmups - Gradius, Gradius 2, Life Force, Gunsmoke, Star Force, Star Soldier, Final Mission (aka SCAT), Sky Shark, 1943, Insector X, Burai Fighter, Starship Hector, Dragon Spirit, Dino Riki, Silver Surfer, Over Horizon, Abadox

Other Games - Battletoads, Code Name Viper, Journey to Silius, Power Blade, Shadow of the Ninja

Any updates to your retro rpg tier list?
>>
>>12058780
Nope, I haven't played any other Famicom RPG. Not even the recently translated Kamen Rider board/RPG game. I'd estimate there are still around 10 of them I'd like to play (that aren't known for being blatantly shit like Hoshi wo Miru Hito), including Ultima 3 and 4 if you can believe that because I thought I'd leave something I know to be good last so I have something to look up to.

I love Metal Max 2 on SFC and Shin Momotarou Densetsu was surprisingly good as well. I also liked Glory of Heracles IV because I think ancient greek mythology is an underrated setting for RPGs, although gameplay was a bit too easy in the end game.
I'm a big fan of FF8 and DQ8 as well. I haven't played many 5th or 6th gen RPGs, but I enjoyed Shining the Holy Ark a LOT as it managed to maintain combat that was engaging (for a 5th gen RPG), as it's closer to something you'd find on Famicom in terms of balancing and mechanics. Grandia also has an amazing world and very likeable characters but the combat is way too easy, especially in the late game .
I just went through Tengai Makyou II on PC-E >>>/vrpg/ 3844782
and overall it's pretty great except for the part when a party member that could use spell leaves and until you get another spellcaster. Fuck that part.

Cool, this sounds like what I'm craving right now. I've played most of the Shining Series SRPGs but skipped Holy Ark because I didn't really enjoy SitD.

I think a lot of homebrew titles are either very basic, bordering on demos, or else they tend to be pretty sparse and undercooked. This isnt to say that there is anything wrong with something like a single screen arcade title, but its cool to see something that feels like a proper "full" NES action adventure.

Former Dawn looks to be quite cool, it's at leas ambitious with a strong art direction. No clue when or if it will actually come out though,

I just finished Kamen Rider SD - Grandshocker no Yabou. As expected it's shovelware board game with RPG mechanics (random turned based race battles and exp/stats and items/money), a total time waster. The strategy and RPG elements are extremely simple. Not something I'd recommend but I'm still glad someone out there translates this kind of stuff.
>>
>>12061456
Picrel is probably the highlight of the game. If for some reasons you're as crazy as me for playing this game here is a protip: there are 3 teams of Riders, stick to the "Mechanic" team who are good both on road and off-road terrain. Their only drawback is their low fuel tank but you can refill that with items (lot's of money to buy some; and low fuel isn't even a problem during boss fights even though refuelling is random there). The other 2 teams are a waste of time as they can only drive on one type of road. Unless of course your favourite Kamen Rider is part of another team and you for some reason want to waste even more time with this game.

Clash at Demonhead

>An open world action adventure romp featuring a huge, interconnected map
>Stylish and with a sense of humor that never comes across as awkward or embarrassing
>Janky, but in a good way. This one was ambitious, and it feels like it is straining at the seams at times

>A pretty obscure rec, but this one always really clicked for me
>A shooter with momentum that impacts movement and your shot angle
>Light exploration and upgrade elements that require you to go into underground caves and bases, navigating around the scenery while killing enemies
>A more methodical but still intense twist on the shooter
>>

Code Name Viper

>We have Wrath of the Black Manta at home!
>Actually much better than the NES WotBM
>60's spy vibes
>Is to Contra what Kung-Fu is to Double Dragon. Fast-paced and tough, but also methodical and deliberate about every shot
>>
Mappy Kids (Namco) is another kid oriented easy platformer but it plays well. The goal is to make money to buy part for a house little by little. There are no bosses but mini games instead, as was common with kiddy Famicom platformers.

So it's kinda like Chip'n Dales as the level design has you roam around irl locations with a small character.

Now the unique thing about this game is that it has 2 player split screen, and it's competitive. I can't even think of a single other NES/FC game with splitscreen, it's extremely rare.

>We have Wrath of the Black Manta at home!

I think you mean Rolling Thunder at home. Although Rolling Thunder also got a Famicom version.

Code Name Viper is pretty great but it's the kind of games that doesn't tolerate any input lag whatsoever, you need insane reaction times.

>Early Capcom shooter, not exceptional, but my cousins had this when I was a kid so it has a special place in my heart
>Crawl your way to the top of the screen blasting away an army of goons

I love this game, but it should let the player switch to other party members and/or have a 2 player mode. That would make it so much better.
>>
>>12062451
Out of all the JRPGs that I like, this game is surely the most tedious and repetitive. It's just so charming to me somehow, even though it just goes on and on with the same stuff over and over and ultimately kind of sucks.

>>12062764
It is better but it can't touch the first game's soundtrack, at least.
>>
>>12061574
Although the character customization is the star, the unusual stage selection system is also subtly cool. Instead of choosing what location's stage to play through next like in Mega Man, you choose what location to travel to, and then the stage you play through ends up being your journey out of your current location, followed by a transition, followed by your journey into the heart of the next location. I don't think I've ever seen that in another game. It doesn't have any major mechanical significance but it's a really nice touch.

Double Dragon II

>Way better than the first
>Unique direction-context control scheme (A ALWAYS hits to your right, B ALWAYS hits to your left) that feels weird at first, but lets you fight like a beast
>Cooler setpieces. Fight on a helicopter, but don't get sucked out the open door!
>Punch enemies to the moon with that post-jump uppercut
