Open exploration and day/night cycle are impressive for a nes game and it feels huge, the only problem is the obligatory money grind but otherwise it's superior to Castlevania 1.
Only those brainwashed by the internet thinks it's anything below a 7/10
>>
This action/exploration genre was all over the Famicom in 1987 in the wake of Zelda 2.

Also Valkyrie no Boken (mid 1986) had day/night cycle and it was a smooth transition unlike Simon's Quest

>in the wake of Zelda 2.

Dragon Buster, arcade, 1985
Tritorn, PC-88, 1985
Xanadu, PC-88, 1985

Xanadu Scenario II, PC-88 1986

I like Xanadu, but Simon’s Quest and other nes action-adventures are clearly more inspired by Zelda II than Xanadu specifically, including Faxanadu.

shut the fuck up tendie retard
so fucking tired of tendie revisionists always trying to make everything about tendie games cuz they never played other games

Maze of Gallious came after Zelda II. I never said 100% Simon’s Quest was influenced by Zelda II, but it doesn’t seem unlikely, and it doesn’t change the fact that a lot of 1987 games were.

Also, just because something is inspired by one thing doesn’t mean it can’t be inspired by another. Maze of Goellius doesn’t have towns to visit and a variety of NPCs to talk to like Simon’s Quest or Zelda II (and no, I’m not saying Zelda II invented that, but it was really popular at the time). So I may have prescribed influence too quickly, but as a guy who’s not so big a fan of either of them, it seems reasonable that some guys at Konami would play the hottest game of the year and maybe get some ideas.

>the only problem is
that the game has nothing interesting to offer, no interesting level, no interesting enemy design and no interesting overall game design. It's just stupid shit to do.

Yeah man damn Nintendoooooo aahhhh

What about its music? Bloody Tears?
>>
>>12056742
Music is good, but you don't need the actual game to enjoy it.

Is ir worth going outside at night at all? Feels more secure to stay in town even if you still fight ghouls.
>>
>>12058171
The total day/night cycles that elapse will affect the ending. So if you wait out the night you might get the bad ending. Simon dies.
