You now remember Guitar Hero and the rhythm game craze of the 2000s. Looking back, were these games any good?
>>12052430i had fun playing them, they got easier with every release though
>>12052430No reason to play them anymore when you have Clone Hero with endless custom charts
>>12052452>Clone HeroNot retro. Also soulless.
>>12052430>You now remember Guitar Heroand before that were singstar and konami rythym games. They were really fun.
the first one is a kind of rough engine but 2 feels great. the subsequent ones are also good but the engine became very forgiving in many ways which isn't as enjoyable
>>12052430I still play Rock Band 4 every once in a while.Never get old, but I miss when all my friends would come over just to play these games.
Anyone else didn't have a guitar and had to play GH with a regular gamepad?
In retrospect, these only caught on because they effectively unjapaneseified a very Japanese genre.Taiko is kind of the same thing, but Taiko is Japanese as fuck. DDR has weird dance music instead of ROCK (the american genre).
>>120524303 and 6 were the best ones. 2 and World Tour also had some fun songs but couldn't compare to the tracklist of those two.
>>12052430I miss this game
>>12052504>these only caught on because they made a heavily cultural genre culturally compatible with their target audience.Yes, and?
>>12052430Buckethead > slash
>>12052542If you want to know "are they good games", that's probably your answer. They're rhythm games. It was already well trod ground. I don't think they do anything mindblowing in terms of gameplay.
>>12052430>Looking back, were these games any good?Yes they were, Rythm games have been around for a long time withor without accessories put guitar hero was peak>>12052472Dance mat games are also rythm games the insiration for guitar hero was an arcade guitar game that was inspired by dabce dance revoltion style arcade machines and there was a wave of dance mat accessories and games for stuff like the PS1. Papa the rappa was huge as well and is a great game. The team behind guitar hero all left and went to make rock band
>>12052430>Looking back, were these games any good?GH1 is good but a bit rough, GH2 and GH80s are fantastic, GH3 was good but not as good as the Harmonix games. The series kinda fell off a cliff after Neversoft started developing it.
>>12052430I keep my guitar by my desk for whenever I get that itch for RB or GH. Clone Hero just isn't the same.
>>12052430>were these games any good?getting together and going head to head or trying to take down some of the harder songs was an awesome experiencea lot of late nights with people I never saw again after high school
>>12052430Personally, I'd be hard pressed to believe anything topped RB3, the instrument choices, the pro tracks, the sheer volume of DLC songs both from major and indie artists. It was damn near perfect.I just wish the characters had more personality is all. A minor gripe in a rhythm game where you're watching notes anyway.

>>12052430Favorite songs for GH3? Mine were always Bulls on Parade by RATM and Before I Forget by Slipknot.
>>12052504I really hate reading stupid obvious posts like yours thinking it's some profound realization.
>>12054591>stock drum padsScrub.
>>12052430>Looking back, were these games any good?GH1, GH2 & GH3 were the best numbered/mainline entries as WT onward was trying way too hard to keep up with rock band.the spinoffs really depend on your tastes in music as they're just glorified song packs. outside of rocks the 80s i can't see someone who doesn't like metallica really liking GH:metallica and so on for GH: aerosmith & GH: van halen if they aren't aerosmith & van halen fans respectively.
It’s all about BeatMania
There's an rpg on PC that you control with these old guitar controllers. I had one with an analog stick on it from back in the day, so I played the whole game with it. Definitely brought back memories. Also they should have done a story mode where you walk around with your guitar
>>12052430DDR for your hands. It was a product of it's time, I don't think they really hold up, although I'm not a big rhythm gamer.
>>12052501I got the guitar but I still think playing on controller is more fun
