Early-mid 2000s PC resolutions were soulful for gaming

800x600
848x480
1024x768
1280x720
1280x768
1280x1024
1360x768
1440x900
1680x1050
>>
800x600 is the best retro resolution, makes me want to get a 1920x1200 monitor for playing retro games on modern systems

Yeah big screens are overrated asf
>>
i was playing an old game on an old laptop and i had forgot how tall the screens used to be. the screen was almost a square. what is that just 3:4? 4:3? it was actually pretty kino and in retrospect its probably why i ejoyed using THIS website so much in the 2000s, because with more vertical real estae you could see more at once. but it isnt like a shitty smartphone resolution either so you have the width to display whatever you need.

do older 2000s games just get stretched to fit on modern tvs?
>>
>>12054037
4:3 is standard "full frame". Some games will stretch, depends on the game and also how you have your GPU configured, etc.
>>
>Retro resolutions
Don't be stupid, resolutions are of all times, there are games from as early as 1997 that support resolutions up to 2048x1536 directly
>>
>>12054273
Wow I'm glad I can play my low poly ps1 game at 4k
>>
>>12054027
>1024x768
Maximum resolution that should exist for gaming. Widescreen is great for movies. It simply doesn't work for games.

>>12053931
it's 320x240, 640x480 and above that you might as well do native

>It simply doesn't work for games.
Explain your reasons
>>
>>12053956
The only way to play DOS 320x200 games with 4:3 aspect ratio correction on LCD without distortion.
>>
>>12054749
What about 2048x1536?
>>
>>12053931
>800x600
The max resolution for some 2D games.
>848x480
Frequently seen in Virtualdubmod
>1024x768
Old reliable.
>1280x720
>The Xbox 360 _IS_ HD!
>1280x768
>Is this considered sidescreen?
>1280x1024
Counter-Strike: Source never looked so crisp.
>1360x768
Why does Rozen Maiden not fill up the screen on this hp laptop?
>1440x900
Whoa this seems like a weird one, I shouldn't touch this.
>1680x1050
I used this until 2020.
>>
>>12054749
>LCD
1600x1200 was a common resolution for mid-high-end CRTs during the mid-00s.
>>
>>12054749
that, or a 3840x2400 screen like what my laptop has

Get that trash out of my face
>>
>>12054719
Have you experienced both on the same game? Standard resolution feels natural, it's the way retro games were designed for, meant to be played for. Widescreen feels forced, fake.

Your feelings aren't prove of anything
>>
>>12055062
Your brain has been rotted by positivism and analytical "philosophy".
>>
>>12055032
agreed but that's a different claim than " It simply doesn't work for games"
