Was Gamecube ever considered cool where you lived back in its days?I ask because i remember back in my highschool, like three kids owned GCs and they were all considered massive dweebs/losers.In fact, one of them got bullied relentlessly just for having one. (I didn't bully him myself; I just stood by and watched it go down).
>>12054136Low quality bait. It had Smash, the best Soul Calibur II, the best Monkey Ball, and Mario Kart. It was the party console for high schoolers. Xbox only had Halo. PS2 had DDR which was great, and Guitar Hero/Rock Band at the end of its life, which captivated normies.
>>12054136It was briefly, largely because of REMake. After that hype faded it was a purple lunchbox. I had one that gen and mostly played Dreamcast.
Extremely low quality thread. OP is a fag. Kill yourself.
>>12054143How is it bait? You answered my question. Gamecube was cool in your area. Cool.
>>12054225It's not though. I lived in an area dominated by Halo and SOCOM bros.
>adding 6th gen will increase the board's quality and bring better discussion!6th genners were the first generation to be raised on online console wars (usenet college nerds from before those times were a tiny minority). It's obvious you guys would turn out the way you did and why adding 6th gen to /vr/ was this board's death sentence.
>>12054232Didn't that happen five years ago? Why are you still bitching? Maybe /r/retrogaming would be more your speed, son.
Where I live video games where always considered a childish hobby until like the mid 2000s when Madden got really big.
I'm brapping this thread, with no survivors.*BRRRRRAAAAAAAAPPPPPPP*OP is a bully victim projecting its insecurities, get fucked.
>>12054136>Was Gamecube ever considered cool where you lived back in its days? No. It was prone to going on fire in teh first manufacturing run in Europe and the only people who seem to be really into it are reddit hipsters. It was an enormous flop primarily because it was a bit shit fewer bought it and fewer bought the games. It could not play DVDs or CDs. If people bought it at all after first release it was because it was on discount clearance. Even Nintendo quietly forgot about it as quickly as possible and dropped support for it. Most of the redditors who got one have it as a status symbol in the cult of milennial reddit revisionist hipsterism. The fact that the crappy Wii plays all its shit and costs nothing makes it even more ridiculous >>12054143Cultist
>>12054228>I lived in an area dominated by Halo and SOCOM bros.Based.
>>12054136The green and silver one looks like those xbox special version
It's increibly unrelaible and dies often and is a bitch to recap or repair, never took a deep dive on it but its probably heat related. If you want to play gamecube games get a first relase wii which has built in gamecube support. Some machines are worth repairing and are easy to keep running, the gamecube is not one of them. Its a shit console and always way which is why it failed
>>12054136>purple homoboxno, matter matter how much gaslighting cubies do, the gc was always considered a piece of shit for poorfags
it was probably the least 'cool' of the consoles but gaming was still considered an activity for kids and fucking losers back then anyways, i was only 13 and kids were already shitting on each other for spending time gaming
GameCube was uncool in my town. I would know because I had one. But everyone would still play melee with you so it wasn't something you would be bullied for or anything. PS2 was for the poor kids because Xbox was the bbc of game consoles in my town, and if you didn't have Xbox live, then you weren't able to game socially with the crowd. It was just the dominant online ecosystem where I lived for some reason, which seems uncommon? Retro consoles were for the Africa tier poor kids or were hand me downs from big brothers. I encountered both. But GameCube was seen as being for babies and no one wanted to be a baby during the bush administration.
>>12054136Appeal
>>12054136Nah we all had ps2s pretty much immediately and then when we broke the dinky trays we got a 2nd ps2. Even the switch hasn’t been ubiquitous the way the ps2 was in its heyday. Everyone with a male child between 8-30 had a ps2
>>12054232IRL 4th gen console wars were definitely a big thing. probably because sega themselves egged it on so much in their advertising.maybe its just me but 5th gen seemed to be chill about it. maybe because sega was too busy getting BTFO and playstation was new enough they didnt have loyal brand warriors yet. or maybe we just had so many good games no one cared. theres definitely something very cancerous about these 6th gen retards who would rather talk about how x console is bad more than discuss videogames. particularly fans of a certain dvd player.
>>12054136>Was Gamecube ever considered cool where you lived back in its days? No. Gamecube was most popular with little kids whose parents wanted a safe choice. It came out during the height of the attitude era and instead of bringing attitude it brought whimsy. The N64 had attitude, which is why it did well in America. Gamecube was the polar opposite. Nintendo realized this and spent the early 2000s trying to give it some tude in NA and Europe to no avail. It just didn't catch. PS2 and Xbox had all the edgy violent games that kids over the age of 7 wanted to play. The GTA games and Halo alone had an unbelievable amount of clout. Of all the games on GC, Melee was by far the most popular, the biggest standout, the one you'd most likely see in the wild.
gc was considered for little kids and autistic/dweebs in my high school. most n64 kids went for an xbox or ps2.given how bad gc flopped i think my experience was representative of the majority.
South of Brazil hereOnly the nerds and dweebs had a Gamecube. All the normal kids had PS2s (piracy was rampant) and the elite of the cool ones had an XBox.I was with the ones who had a GC, no regrets
Yea
>>12054136>Was Gamecube ever considered cool where you lived back in its days? No, it was a market failure mostly bought on discount for novely if at all and nearly ended Nintendo. It's also a PITA to babysit or repair and possible the worst retro console in existence for that reason alone
>>12054938Were OG gamecubes and xboxes insanely expensive in Brazil because of the taxes and rampant poverty?
>>12054136In my town most people had PS2s followed by Xbox. I only knew one guy who had a GameCube while I knew a few who had Dreamcast.
>>12054136Gamecube was my friend group choice of console. So many games that supported four player games. Those were better days...
>>12054136People really liked playing smash and Mario Kart. Bullying people over which videogame company they liked wasn't as big of a thing as people online would have you believe. Kids picked on you when they didn't like you and made you feel small regardless of what toys you had at home.
>>12054143>It was the party console for high schoolers.maybe nerd parties without alcohol or girls
>>12054985The GC console was actually pretty cheap, it was made localy by Gradiente until about 2005. The games were expensive compared to PS2 due to the lack of piracy and market share. On Xbox everything was very expensive. The PS2 console were a little bit more expensive than the GC but you could buy 3 games for R$10 on every corner, bakery, pharmacy, everyone sold PS2 (and PS1) pirated games, clothe stores and so onGood times
>>12054136There was a pretty even distribution in my school between the systems of that era. Obviously PS2 everyone had, but I would say the cube was owned by more kids than the Xbox was. Playing on PC was the "mega nerd" platform that most never bothered with, and retro gaming was unheard of (hence how I got a shit load of free stuff from others who thought it was trash).
>>12054136Bait tier.Bitch, you act like Melee didn't exist. That was super popular at that time among all types. What a bitch
AIIEEEE STOP ENJOYING THE SHITCUBE R-RIGHT NOW GOD DAMN IT!!! FUCKING FAGGOT LUNCHBOX TODDLER GAYCUBE!! I AM EXTREMELY SECURE IN MY SEXUALITY AND A HIGHLY MATURE ADULT!!
>>12054136PS2, Xbox and even Dreamcast to an extent alienated Gamecube where I lived. DC was older but had penetration with that certain older highschool crowd when it came out. The dying breath of arcade games living on in many of its major titles. For as big as the internet treats Sonic Adventure, way more people had the sports games on there. PS2 dominated the culture and was everywhere. Xbox sneaking in as the go-to multiplayer console. Even with Smash Melee GC didn't stand a chance. It was relegated to the younger brother console. The GC appeal works on that young crowd. GBA crossover, Nintendo appeal, but you're only receptive to that until you're a bigger kid, pre-teen kid. By then you want to try what your older brother is playing, and it wasn't gamecube.Oh and I wanted to follow up on the Dreamcast thing, fighting game guys didn't care much about other consoles. They liked PS2, but DC was always a mainstay there.
i didnt grow up in a poor neighborhood so basically everyone had ps2 cube and xbox eventually. no one irl cares about console wars, only people screeching on gamefaqs which I see you "people" are keeping alive to this day. melee and animal crossing were definitely the two most popular games.
>>12054292 (._.)( )o( ) brap prrt hah aha uh oh U U
>>12054136It was considered the kiddy console. I knew a couple of kids who had them but they were always the spoiled over protected type of kids and definitely never considered cool
>>12054143>It was the party console for high schoolersno, man. no. not at all.
>>12054136Xbox and Gamecubes were for people who had friends. The PS2 was for people who didn't have friends and only wanted to play single-player games. And that still stays true to this day. I play my Xbox and Switch with friends while my PS5 only gets used whenever a decent PS5 exclusive comes out
>>12054136Yes, lots of us had GameCube and Smash Bros. Me and some friends played a ton of offline Phantasy Star Online and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Despite being high schoolers we all played Animal Crossing a fuck ton. When Resident Evil 4 came out we all came too.
>>12054136I was in college when it came out, people didn't really console war, they pooled resources. 1 buddy had an Xbox for Halo, I had a ps2 for socom, another buddy had GC for mario tennis. We played whatever was available and I don't know of anyone who was lavishly devoted to a brand in 2002-2006
