To think Capcom had enough faith in Dakstalkers to make merchandise, I want to live in that alternate reality where Donovan and Talbain are just as popular as Ryu or Chun-li.

Japanese agressively merchandise everything. Its not just a modern fad with flavor of the month phone games getting 1000 diffeent keychains and gashapon slop merch. They've been doing it since the 80s.

The quality did improve with the arrival of the premium gashapon toys from Yujin. They were 200 yen each. Dark stalkers got 3 different releases, player 2
Variants, felicia as a nun etc.

These started in 1999 or so.

Oh shit, we're posting board games too?
If anyone is like me and always wanted to play this since they saw it in Namco Museum Vol.3, I scanned my copy, translated it, and put it on Tabletop Simulator.
Pac-Land board game in English is also coming soon, been taking me forever do it though cause trying to translate stuff without actually knowing much Japanese gets pretty soul draining and Pac-Land's rules are three times the size of Druaga's.

Some more shit I scrounged out of the cabinets:
Mario / Zelda bedsheet set.
'81-82 Pac Man (was functional 10 years ago, don't have C batteries rn)
Functional Pokemon Pikachu tomogachi-like thing
Some DKC stickers
Stickers from Pokemon Snap (from a kiosk?)
And a binder full of '90s-only cards incl Japanese and 1st editions. If you look you can see some Tech Deck grip tape on there too.

I have the Super Mario Bros plastic plate shown in this print ad for a McCain Kids Menu promotion. Used to have the cutlery too, but it's been lost.
There's surprisingly little info about this stuff online, the ad is French but this was in the UK too.

I’m not even a Zelda fan I think the franchise is boring but I think the OOT designs are the best in the franchise. honestly feel like older designers were just better.
>>
Retro toys are one of those things I honestly have zero nostalgia for. I don't miss cheap figurines or 5poa bricks that feel like they're made of chalk and look like they were hand painted by a vietnamese slave using unthinned lead paint and their toothbrush. Modern toys are so much better it's not even funny.

The only thing that really sucks is when there's no good toy of a character's retro designs. Or if there's some shitty ugly remake and they pass off the remake designs as the originals in the toys. Like it took them forever to make a decent Doomguy toy after they already made dozens of DOOMSLAYER toys. And all the Ratchet and Clank toys are based on the PS3 designs. And all the good Crash Bandicoot toys are based off the remakes and shit-ass 4. As a kid all I had were those microscopic gachapon Crash figures that I can't even find online anymore because they've since made gachapon toys of the shitty crash 4 designs.

The boxed set sells for around $120 now, which isn't too bad when you consider that it's a quarter-century old now. The only real expensive FF8 toys are Ultima Weapon, Omega Weapon, and of course Ragnarok.
>>
>>12060107
None of that is really stupid. It all has its charm and sentimental value.

That Pac-Man game sucked as an early attempt at hand-held gaming, but somehow it has charm and charisma that make it still worth having.

>>12061521
I feel the opposite. My friend gave me a bunch of Neca figures from various franchises that were all designed to be anatomically correct to the characters from the movies they were from, and super detailed faces, and they just don't interest me that much to look at on a shelf. If i wanted a batman to display, i rather just pick up a decent toy from the 90s.
>>

I know. A lot of the promo stuff they did was just so damn boring compared to the original, I couldn't be fucked, and I'm not paying goddamn thousands for a single plush, not even for one from my favorite game.
I do however have a neat remake store standee of Mario, gifted by a friend.
