Just bought a network adaptor and original ps2 hdd and found this on it. Was Linux on ps2 any good?
>>12054502No.
>>12054502it was a way for sony to abuse a loophole and market the ps2 as a computer on EU.or something like that. can't remember.
>>12054569>>12054584Incorrect.This is Linux on a PS2.
>>12054702>Linux on the PS2 today. You missed that part.

>>12054713This project aims to translate PSBBN from Japanese to English, introduce modern features, and make it a viable daily driver in 2025 and beyond.
>>12054724What does this have to do with PS2 BBN being Linux since 2002 (its inception?) Seems like you're arguing semantics nobody considers relevant in the first place.
>>12054729No one was using Linux on the PS2 in any significant way. It was all after the fact. The experience was asine at the time.
>12054740Okay dude.
>>12054702>>12054729"Haha, I'm such a unix nerd!" - some random dumbass who uses a MacBook, but mostly uses it for Facebook and keeping random photos on, never touching anything beyond web browser and photos

>>12054702no, that is psbbn that runs on top of linux but doesn't expose any of its linux parts.it's like saying that windows is msdos because it runs on top of it. this is actual ps2 linux.https://youtu.be/rWmJ0RH_Feo
To answer your question without going into dumbass bullshit, not really. It was alright for the time when linux was more about "I can install this on ANYTHING!" more than usability and quality of life, but otherwise you were better off putting debian on some pentium shitbox than trying to do similar on a PS2. You're not doing much with PS2 linux other than drawing a penis in the ancient version of GIMP that comes with it.>BUT PSBBN!See >>12054757
>>12054569>Oh! Rook! You forgot to collect heartgets me every time
>>12054502Linux was never good, it doesn't matter the platform.
>>12054702>titono wonder you are dumb.
>linux nerds:>linux can be anything! In fact you probably use it every day without realizing it :))))>also linux nerds: >>12054810
>>12054740>>12054757>>12054980Seriously jeet-coded brown posts here.
>>12055075Cope, if you want to use linux on a toaster, feel free to get an old ass thinkpad off ebay and put debian on it
>>12055078What's jeet coded about pointing out that people are fake ass nerds when it comes to operating systems? People who will say they love unix or anything unix like but immediately get fucking terrified at the thought of using a CLI.
>>12055239You're projecting again, Rajesh. It's fascinating to watch your alien mind at work.

>>12055078Linux is ironically more popular in India than anywhere else in the world
>>12054702psbbn is a meme right now because there's no way to play your own movies and music in the movie channel and it doesn't support external drives afaik so you may as well just use OPL.
>>12054702>This is Linux on a PS2.This. You can see it right there where it says linux-patched.webm
>>12054780>it's like saying that windows is msdos because it runs on top of it.Windows NT never ran on top of DOS
>>12055540if you had a braincell you would know anon was talking about win9x.the analogy is valid given the implicit context.
>>12055075The most I've ever seen anyone do with PS2 linux is run a GBC emulator on it and maybe get firefox on it, and again, you're better off doing that on a Pentium shitbox with debian or some shit.
>>12056443No, the most you've ever seen is the Broadband Navigator.
>>12056850>>12054757

>>12056880Sure kiddo, there's no difference between a sysadmin and that glittery chick at Starbucks posting "positive vibes" on Facebook with her macbook
>>12056885Doesn't matter. PSBBN is Linux.
>>12056906Cool, now get it to telnet/ssh into something
>>12054702>not knowing PS2 Linux was a separate, official Sony productYikes, zoomers and thirdies everywhere. As far as the eye can see.
>>12056906user is underage
>>12056906as much as android is linux.hint: it isn't.
>>12056910>>12057104>>12057615>>12057619>Noooo Linux can only be the PS2 Linux disc even though PS BBN was built on top of LinuxJust say you want to have a conversation about how there's Linux on the PS2, I'm sure you have a lot of interesting things to say.
>>12057820>can't use terminalWhat's the fucking point? The thing's baby proofed if I can't even telnet/ssh into telehack or something, at least with linux for ps2 I can actually do that
>>12057850Very interesting. You have some fascinating things to say. Have you ever done this on a real PS2?
>>12057865I don't have linux for PS2, but you can do that on a debian install on even a 486 shitbox, so a PS2 could do that if you set up a network connection. Telnet and ssh are basic ass programs for any unix like OS.
>>12057871You sure like to talk about this boring stuff, don't you?
>>12057884Sorry if Linux is boring to you.
>>12054502What kind of weapons grade autism compels someone to turn their PS2 into a linux computer?
>>12057886You could have used the opportunity to talk about something besides telnet but you couldn't help yourself. Well at least you've proven me right, bringing up PSBBN which is based on PS2 Linux was the right direction to take the thread.
>>12057896So how do you open the terminal on that so one can do actual linux shit?
>>12057901Install PS2 Linux and launch it from within PSBBN.
>>12057820>Noooo words cope words copePeople were trying to have a conversion about how there's linux on the PS2 and some retarded child derailed it with his stupidity and cope.
>>12058136>please I really wanted to discuss telnetOK bro
>>12057894on the ebay listing it said it was a jap hdd so maybe jap autism
>>12058145>please i really want to cope about how everyone is laughing at me because I thought PSBBN is LinuxOK brolet
>>12058256>PSBBN is LinuxCorrect.
>>12057901>le terminal is actual linux shitSorry grandpa, I use Plasma and click on buttons to do everything
