Why didn't the Japanese appreciate Sonic as much as the Americans?
>>
>>12054951
They were nintendo fanboys
>>
Because Sonic sucks.
>>
Ask them
>>
Sonic is a free spirit, he goes against the collective hivemind of the Japanese
>>
No Jaleel White inner voiceover whenever they see him
>>
They should have done more with sonic as a mascot and put him in other genres
>>
There is more autism in burgerland than japan.
>>
The Mega Drive wasn't that popular in Japan and even Sonic Jam apparently didn't sell well there despite being on the Saturn
>>
>>12054951
Cause the games just ain't that good

The Japanese like games like SMB, DKC,Crash Bandicoot. Not Sonic.
>>
>>12055030
they did. The games just sucked, which is weird cause sega has made a ton of great games outside of sonic.
>>
>>12055103
Where's my sonic Zelda clone? Or castlevania clone? Where's the sonic jrpg? itd probably help sell all those sega games nobody bought because they weren't sonic

fake figures
>4 million Sega Megadrive units sold
>games are so rare in japan they charge like 200 dollars each

Most Japs with Mega Drive didn’t buy cartridges, they got the CD and Lunar then called it a day.
>>
>>12055278
Why?
>>
Salarymen look at a cock little dude with attitude who does whatever he wants and it ignites soul-devouring existentialism within them.
Meanwhile, Americans look at Sonic and celebrate his commitment to personal freedom and chili dogs.
>>
>>12054951
Because the US has more autistic individuals. Proven by the amount of furrys and trannys that like 3D sonic over 2D.
>>
>>12055451
>Because the US has more autistic individuals.
The US has more, based primarily on the population difference, but Japan absolutely has a higher density.
>>
>>12055451
Japan has tons of furries, they’re just closeted about it and aren’t retarded enough to think normal people want to see it.

Not the best, but gets the main points covered. Japanese only. Sega in Japan had other games that received more attention at the time, such as Virtua Fighter and Sakura Taisen. The original Genesis games' (1, 2, 3 & Knuckles) gameplay that focused on speed with little variety to advance through stages did not appeal to most Japanese gamers, who wanted a more challenging experience. Only later when Sonic was reformatted to fit into a more complex story and have more challenging varieties of gameplay in the 3D era, starting with Adventure 1+2, did Japan catch on.
>>
>>12055182
Saturn being successful in Japan talks more about the Saturn vs PS rivalry than against N64 (which released almost 2 years later).
N64 also sold more software than Saturn, with many of Japan's million selling games during 5th gen being on N64

japan are not cool

I see a bunch of Kemono suiters and Japanese Kemono conventions and shit, what are you talking about?
>>
>>12054951
because sega was perennially in third place in japan behind nintendo and NEC. its like if someone in mexico got really excited about jet set willy for the speccy then got really confused when most people in the uk didnt really care for it

80% of Sonic merch is exclusive to Japan, so somebody must have been buying it.

>>12056959
The whole "Sonic isn't relevant in Japan" thing is greatly exaggerated, he was popular enough to warrant an ova

Japan didn't care for Metroid and Castlevania either. idk why
>>
>>12054951
Mario as a brand was/is too dominant. Nintendo itself too. Did Sega ever get the Dragon Quest games? For a while back in elden times they were more popular in Japan than Final Fantasy was.

vampire killer was like one of the top selling games on the msx...

Sega was an arcade powerhouse. Sg1000 was only made to rival nintendo, and sonic to mario. No genuity in either of them.

>>12057017
thats called advertising jackass

>>12057097
>country that never explored never cared for exploration games

Because the Mega Drive is a piece of shit with shit audio and graphics and no games in japen and flopped rightfully.

>>12055037
Now you're trying too hard, lol.
>>
>>12055769
>who wanted a more challenging experience
The original games were very punishing, which was something that was included to appeal to the american market specifically. Afaik, mellower games were the norm on the other side, just look at how well RPGs and Kirby did over there. Relative to other games in the Mega Drive, the original genesis games sold well, but the console was simply no match for the Super Famicom.

According to Hideki Sato, it was originally only going to be a computer (SC-3000), but decided to make a console variant (SG-1000) after catching wind of the Famicom.
>>
>>12054951
they don't like furries
>>
>>12054951
Japan only likes animal characters if they're silent little cutesy mascots like Hello Kitty. Critters with attitude like Bugs Bunny and Sonic is a western fascination.
>>
>>12054951
Why give them another Mickey Mouse while Mickey was on an upswing of popularity?
