What a wonderful little game. The music is great. The mechanics are easy to learn, but hard to master. The models are nicely animated. I really like it. Is the 2nd one better?

It was definitely one of the best from the turn-of-the-century rhythm game boom. Great tracks, and the stylized character designs worked very well for the mocap save for a exception or two.

The second game is basically more of the same so if that's what you want it's fine, but by that time the genre had lost its novelty and it got harsher reviews iirc

Yes, it's better but it's more difficult as it demands greater accuracy and you can't reach the true boss without achieving Fever Time in the first five battles on normal difficulty.

i always got this mixed up with the pal name for puzzle bobble, which incidentally had one of the worst boxarts of all time

I thought it was called bust a move

It's actually called Bust a System

Is dance summit 2001 good?

Even though the 2nd game has some good things going for it, I still vastly prefer the original. I don't like the presentation of the sequel, the screen is too chaotic with shit moving everywhere all the time; the music, even through it's subjective, was a downgrade and never reached the peaks of the original. I still like some things though, like the insane Pander stage that goes at 10000 bpm and the progression of the dances themselves (in the original, once you know the most scoring moves, you always dance the same).

Play the japanese version of Bust-a-Move 2, they removed the Dancing Heroes segment from the international versions (which are great and adds a lot to the wacky characters)
The text is all in english btw, no need to know moon

This, 1st one has better music but the 2nd one has better gameplay, I'd love a decomp so we could get the best of both worlds.

It was, in Japan (not joking).

And Hiro's cigarette.

Speaking of Hiro, the English announcer in US and PAL regions cuts off when he announces "Hiro!" In the NTSC/J he says "HIRO-KUN!"

I only played it at a friend's house. It was cool. I mostly remember it because that friend was in the high school choir, and he used to sing Natural Playboy for us while we hung out.

So this song makes me more nostalgic than most things despite barely playing the game.

Great games, worth playing both the japanese and usa versions for the songs differences

Even through the graphics were not pushing the limits of the console, the motion capture is fantastic. I can't recall any other game any other game that comes close in that aspect.

Well, maybe Tobal 2 now that I think about it.
