Are there any sports games that you'd consider fun despite being kind of generic? (No EA sports because they are boring)

Golf games are fun.
Ball games can be fun if they're far from trying to be sims and go for arcade gameplay density, like Kunio-kun soccer and Mega Man Soccer.
The best "realistic" soccer games are International Superstar Soccer/early Winning Eleven and Virtua Striker, because they are purely arcade style.

There's the obvious Tecmo Super Bowl, and NHL 94. Yes, NHL is an EA game, fuck you, it's great.
