Ps1 had an open world batman game way before it was cool
>>12061024This is Acclaim's best Batman title, but it's still bad.
This game was absurdly ambitious for it's time and graphically impressive. However it's also a completely shitty game that's borderline impossible to complete and damn near unplayable.
>>12061051impossible to complete because it just sucks, or is it retardedly difficult? i wanna check it out now lel
>>12061051It's weird, the only time I played this game was when my dad used to burn discs to sell and I would test them, this is one I remember having a really detailed game world but I had no idea what to do. Beyond that it seems like no one played this at all.
>>12061024But no Turtles strategy gaem
>>12061167Both, which is unfortunate considering what I mentioned about it being impressive for it's time. A lot of the difficulty though comes from how it's design sucks. It's an open-world game where you basically are given little to no clue on what to do, the entire game is on a timer, it's full of NES-era "punch this wall, but NOT this one, to reveal a "secret" mandatory to beating the game... in the time limit" bullshit, and if you didn't know where a weapon/gadget was, exactly where to use it, or already wasted it on something else, you lose.By the way, one life, no continues.>>12061172>Beyond that it seems like no one played this at all.Feels that way from what I've seen. I anons here generally aren't big on YouTube channels but Rerez's video was one of the few I saw that beat it, though even they had to rely on the secret dev/cheat room for invincibility when usually they beat hard shitty games legit.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMr6W-7wZrc
If this had a PC port, I bet it could be fixed, because the game doesn't feel like a shitty cash in, but it predates a lot of sensible game concepts we take for granted nowadays.

>>12061197That's the sad part. I agree, it doesn't feel like a shitty cash-in. Or at least, not by the devs. This game was clearly too ambitious for it's time, or at least for the PS1, and I assume the time constraints the publisher put on the devs so that it comes out in time for the movie. Something like this would have needed a much longer dev cycle, and possibly needed to come out on a gen 6 system. The devs clearly had some ambitious ideas and tried, but it was too little dev time and too ambitious a game for both the hardware and the time, resulting in an unplayable mess.
It's also really bad
>>12061024I used to love this game, I probably still got a copy somewhere
I owned this game. I wanted it to be good so bad. I could see the potential in it with a open Gotham, driving around collecting clues to get leads to stop the criminals. I kept coming back to it hoping that I would break through and it would finally become good. Never happened, the controls are so bad, the combat so bad, everything so bad. Wasted potential.
