Budget game threadGames you buy for thruppence after selling some lead down the market
i bought a lot of budget bullshit from kmart. these discs would just have a bunch of shareware on them mostly. dos slop like jill of the jungle and jetpack. these games felt like they came from an alternate reality. they were just so off but all shared the same look/jank. they would also have doom and a few gems here and there.
>>12062193also from kmart (but not that particular disc) i bought another 5-pack of discs i think it was. one of them was hellcab. i recall it having the claim to fame as being the first game released on cd-rom. it didnt really run on my computer and i could only get thru the first couple of screens. really strange game that always kind of creeped me out.
>>12062193>tfw your great aunt gets you one of these for christmas and you have to pretend to be happy
>>12062169>fast, enjoyable gameplay>fast, enjoyable EDM soundtrack>looks really nice for a PS1 title>classic absurdly melodramatic 90's anime plot>should have been called Bomberman Sephiroth>has silent in the title to cash in on the stealth fad, despite it not being remotely silent>still about £10
>>12062169Been trying to see which of these were secretly cool stuff from Japan lately. There's a euro release called Future Racer which is an english version of well, a future racer from Japan called Defeat Lightning. It has a weird future sports angle, with the race leader getting a ball via checkpoints and taking it through other checkpoints increases your score, but everyone attacks the carrier for it using Road Rash side attacks to steal it (every racer is in a mech of sorts). The winner isn't the race leader but the highest scorer, you can get points through killing other racers and other methods I don't get. The tracks get bullshit and I've never passed the 3rd or 4th stage, but it's interesting .There's an FPS called Hybrid by Brit devs that oddly only got a Japan release in 1997 and a Phoenix Games one in the 2000s. It's better than average and has 4 characters with different loadouts/cheesy voice lines. Really only seems remotely possible on its default Easy difficulty as even default enemy grunts explode and hurt you on death. Lots of stuff I'd rather play but not terrible.
>>12062259I had both of those, for some reason I could never get past the second stage of Hybrid. Played it for hours but never seemed to get far into it, and the passwords I looked up online at the time never worked. Enjoyed Future Racer/Defeat Lightning, again didn't seem to get far into it, I knew something was off with the title though. Still find it curious how Hybrid was only released in Japan in 1997 (I remember seeing a small preview of it in OPM) and only got a budget release in the UK years later.
>>12062241I had Guilty Gear on this label and it was a pretty awful release, the manual had basically nothing in it other than to insert the disc and power on the console, and the game dropped all the win dialogue between fights and also removed the "Heaven or Hell" graphics.
Bumping a unique thread.
>>12062241mmm, but silent bomber was well know in Europe, 2000-2001Playit re-release was like 2002-2003 published by Studio3
From the same range as OP's, the rubbish Chris Kamara's Street Soccer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEVmM3qnUqEHeaven knows why Kammy allowed his image to be used for this. He doesn't even appear in it.
