>>12062887you are so full of shit that i am taking time out of my busy day to explain how wrong you are. actraiser was one of the BEST snes games. it combined action and simulation/town-building. if you built up your town population you were rewarded with more HP and other bonuses to make the action part easier. you couldn't die in build mode but there was still combat. the coolest thing about the game though was that you were literally god. people worshiped you. you were responsible for saving the world from some ancient evil that had taken over and you had to regain your power. best of all, the game was fucking HARD. there was a strategy to building towns well and you needed items from other maps to trying maximize your town's populations to make the action part of the game easier. it felt like a big world with lots of things to do and a great storyline. you lived in the heavenly sky palace and the people on ground needed you to help them, until the end when they were no longer threatened by the devil and could take care of themselves. great ego-boosting power trip. great game. would have been super controversial at the time if any parents had actually read the dialogue and story.

the sim half was excellent and i honestly wanted more of it. i was incredibly disappointed when the sequel got rid of them in favor of making the half-ass platforming actually good. like, yeah, the platforming is good now, but that's not what i was playing actraiser for!

It's not a very good game. The citybuilding part is overly scripted, not letting you make any real decisions, and the action part is ridiculously simple. The sequel made the wise decision of dropping the citybuilding and focusing on the action, and is a much better game.
