>1Looking for a Love Song, one of the tracks of the game was a tie in with an idol. It did not perform wellhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhNaiJ-Ljtc>2There was a 40 mins orchestral concert of the soundtrack released on LaserDisc which includes live action footage representing the game.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxtXBmhR3LA
>3In the original versions (FC/MSX/NES) it is impossible to get an item drop of an item you already have, outside of simple consumables. You will get some gold instead. This was changed in the later versions (SNES, GBC etc)There is a famous story involving Pokémon devs Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori. Presumably Sugimori had 2 Mysterious Hats, which made Tajiri jealous because he didn't have a single hat, and wish they could trade the hats between their copies of the game, which would give birth to ideas for Pokémon. As mentionned above, in the og versions it is impossible to have 2 Mysterious Hats, unless Sugimori cheated by manipulating the password feature. You might think "maybe he was talking about the SNES version!" but that can't be the case either because a hat is outright given to the player in the SNES version so Tajiri would have one.It is possible to abuse this item drop system, for instance one of the quickest ways to grind for money is to get Steel Helmet drops from the Gargoyle enemies (they roam on the last floor of the Tower of the Moon, for instance) and sell them for 2350g one by one. In what feels like an even bigger exploit, you can also sell the Thunder Wand acquired in the jail of Midenhall for 19500g and get another one, again and again, as the enemy that drops it respawns if you reload your save. This exploit was fixed in the SNES version and additional the enemy who drops it no longer respawns, and may not even drop the item at all. Additionaly said enemy was made stronger. This is one of few things that were made harder in the SNES version, rather than easier.>4The MSX version has a secret "skimpy swimsuit item", complete with a fullscreen picture of the princess wearing it. The Prince of Midenhall comments about it which breaks off his otherwise "silent protagonist" role.
>5The MSX version altered some encounters to make them more difficult and they are particularly nasty, such as a group of 3 Killing Machine in Rhone or 4 Mace Masters in Hargon's Castle (the ones who can revive fallen enemies).>6There is a "reverse Peninsula of Power" glitch in the north west of Rhone: if you walk along the grey mountain you'll get much easier encounters instead.>7There were many planned but cut enemies that would later find their way into the sequels (pic related), including Mimic. The above Fantasia laserdisc video features that some enemies that first appeared in DQ3, which might be a hint that they too were originally planned for 2. Or not, as the Prince of Midenhall wears equipment from DQ3 also.
>8On top of other changes, the US NES version was rebalanced to be a bit easier: some enemies yield more exp and gold and/or suffered stat reduction.>9In the Japanese version it is possible to choose the name of the Prince of Cannock and of Moonbroke through a cheat code, although it needs to be inputted again every time the player uses a password. This feature apparently did not survive for the US version.>10Presumably Yuji Horii makes a cameo in the Famicom version, which was removed from the SNES version onwards; though do not know who or where. This feature apparently did not survive for the US version. It actually did, and the names are saved thanks to the battery.
>>12063446What's the code? In the FC version it's >on Midenhall's name entry, hold SELECT+START and press A to endBut this doesn't work in the NES version
>>12063463>>12063446Furthermore this guy, notable for searching through NES/FC games for cheats, only lists the name entry cheat for the Famicom* versionhttps://cah4e3.shedevr.org.ru/cheatsbase_d.php#452
>>12063412>During the cursed event mentioned above, if you use a resurrection orb next to the Prince of Samatoria while he is away and resume the game, for some reason the Prince of Samatoria will multiply into two, with one rejoining at the inn and the other at the back of the party.I thought this was a bug caused by the fan translation but the game seems to be full of bugs.
>>12063727>>12063412>https://w.atwiki.jp/gcmatome/pages/3560.html#id_52fabc3b>This alone doesn't mean much, but if you raise the Prince of Samatoria's level from 35 to 36 at this time, a bug called the "Samar Max Technique" will cause his stats to start rising abnormally.*16, and ultimately maximize all parameters to 255.lol, not so weak anymore nowI also thought picrel was a bug in the fan translation but maybe it's in the original? This dungeon breaks if you have max gold (can't remember if it's inventory or bank). Thankfully it reverts if you get rid of your gold.
>>12063727Now that i think about it, on the fan translation the second Cannock prince appears when the og is cursed and not when you heal him, if you talk to the clone he will join your party and make the princess disappear, fucking up your game, the fan translation also makes it so that if you have a World Tree Leaf you can't get another if you got one already, meaning that if the leaf was with Cannock you can't bring him back to the party. Not only the fan translation had the OG game bugs but also created new ones and mixed the new with the old ones, amazing. There's a translation that fixes all the problems on DQ1-3 on the SFC but is Spanish only, hopefully they translate DQ6 one day.
Here is another fun fact regarding the whole item drop thing. I checked the dissassembly of the US NES version and compared it to the code of the Famicom version and the NES version added a failsafe to the whole thing (it adds a flag that says "this item already exists in the inventory" that didn't exist in the FC version and which is then read as a failsafe)As it is indeed impossible to get 2 of the same item drops, in either version, it really begs the question as to why they deemed this failsafe necessary...
>>12063407I love that tune. That girl does not do it justice though.I guess the person who came up with the pictured in-game character was probably thinking of this idol?
>>12064718Yes, that is supposed to be here. Which is why she (and the song) were removed in the SNES version. And I agree, I actually think the in game version is better than the idol version
Another fun fact: the maximum HP for an enemy in the original versions is 255, because they sticked to 8-bit values. This is most likely why bosses in the end game have such strong defense and/or have insta kill moves and/or can heal themselves, to compensate for how low 255HP actually is.The SNES remakes breaks this value but only for Malroth, which was completely rebalanced. Several bosses in the game were rebalanced to be made harder though everything else is easier.

>>12065623It's on TCRFhttps://tcrf.net/Dragon_Quest_II_(MSX)
>>12065323>Which is why she (and the song) were removed in the SNES versionThe song is still in, but only for the file select screen.
