I played SotN. I appreciate exploration/adventure games but it was piss easy, thusly boring. I still like the theme of Castlevania though so I'm going to play what I hope will actually be fulfilling experiences in these two games from the usually unchallenged 16 bit era

Question is which is better and which should I play first?
>>
>>12064505
I prefer IV myself but both are excellent and well worth playing.
>>
>better
Subjective, but both games are well liked
>first
IV came out first, so that.
You should play the NES original though.
>>
Bloodlines is harder, so go there if that's what you want.
>>
>>12064505
Super Castlevania eases you in. It's not that hard until like the last world or two, but it has a very easy final boss. Bloodlines is much harder from the get go. (Haven't beaten it so I don't know if it gets easier). It does have two playable characters which is neat, and I love the colors.
>>
>>12064505
Bloodlines is better but both are great, and why you wouldn't just play both considering you can beat both of them in just a few days?

Bloodlines is the hardest in the series (besides US CV3) if you play with the limited continues, but you can increase them in options or use a cheat code to get more.

Bloodlines

IV, but you should really play 1 and 3 before either of them.

Bloodlines followed by Rondo followed by X68000, skip 4 it's shit

I like how this thread gets incresingly more and more samefagged by OP.

Don't be disingenuous. SOTN has many merits but challenge isn't one of them. Mario games are harder
>>
>>12064505
The only castlevanias ive ever personally beat are sotn, blood lines, harmony of dissonance, rondo of blood and castlevania 4 and i enjoyed them all. Sotn is still my favorite though. I enjoy it. Its long. It looks amazing on a crt. Its fun. It looks cool I enjoy it alot. Theyre all amazing games however. Love the series alot desu.
>>
CV4 has impeccable presentation, music and atmosphere but it's a total breeze until you get to the castle, in which the game becomes a frustrating assrape of spike pits and offscreen projectiles. It's still a good game but I wouldn't replay it.

Bloodlines is excellent from start to finish and has a much better difficulty curve. I've finished it several times and can pretty consistently 1cc it now. The two character gimmick is handled quite well too.
>>
>>12064970
Yes, which is the better mentality compared to
>artificial difficulty muh rentals devs didn't know what they were doing artificially extend the length of the game play the easier JPN version and use QoL and savestate/rewind to fix the antiquated bad game design!!!
>>
>>12065508
>play the easier JPN version
This but unironically, at least in the case of Castlevania 3. Not because of difficulty, but because they fucked up the subweapon locations, first and foremost.
The same isn't true for other Konami games like Contra Hard Corps and RKA for example, as unlike Cv3, those games' US versions weren't made actively worse. In fact, they're probably superior versions along with being more difficult.
>>

Bloodlines >>>>>> Sloppy Cuckoldvania 4

Playing SOTN and coming to the conclusion
>durrrr game not hard
Is the definition of disingenuous. A game being difficult isn’t even a merit, just a tool devs use to artificially bloat the playtime and trick you into thinking you did something due to the sunk cost fallacy of wasting a bunch of time to beat it. Only nerds who never achieved anything in life care about beating “difficult” games.

You're too young to post on this board, zoomzoom. Try yet another shitty garbage complaint thread and see if you can get away with it.

Bloodlines is one of the most overrated retro games currently. It's bordering on bootleg tier and yet everyone pretends it's a masterpiece. They only do it because SCIV was popular for decades too, so transparent.
>>
>>12064505
Bloodlines would be better if the Greece level weren't so fucking boring. I don't even mind games kicking me back to Stage 1 after a game over, but the journey back should still be fun; Bloodlines fucks it up all the way from Stage 2.
>>
>>12065840
You don't like two janky autoscrollers in a row?
>>
>>12065787
A game is literally a challenge.....golf, pool, bowling, all take practice and development of skills

That's what a fucking game is, you don't like games you like interactive movies/role playing simulation. No skill, no practice, not a game

>You're a zoomers for criticizing a ps1 game
Lol. I grew up with SNES and Genesis, go back to plebbit born in the 90s zoomer, 80s babies are the only millennials allowed here and any late millennials are considered old zoomers. A Nes game would make you commit suicide because it's not skilless like your Gen z ps1 faux nostalgia trash

Bloodlines feels shorter than it should be. You do get two characters. It also plays faster than SCIV. Some of the music is really good. I would say the first two levels are also clearly the strongest part of the game.

SCIV has the multi-direction whip. Some say its better, some say its not. I lean towards CV games don't need such a mechanic but for one game its inclusion is fine. Its mostly fine in this game although might make it easier than it should be. It seems to be a more well made game overall than Bloodlines. Better Dracula fight in this game as well.

Overall I say SCIV is better by a bit but both games are great. Play SCIV first, then Bloodlines. I liked Rondo of Blood better than both.

The issue isn't so much that SotN is lacking difficulty, but rather why it's lacking difficulty and what does it actually mean in the context of what the game asks you to do.
>>
>>12065906
80s faggots are insufferable niggers.

'91 here, go fuck yourself. I am more Millennial than your stupid ass will ever be.

Early 80s is absolutely Gen X to me.
>>
>>12066901
You're only three years younger than me but I see you're still a Millenioomer faggot. Fuck your life you rap loving Naruto watching 00s kid queer. Real 90s kids aren't you
>>
>>12065806
the bootleg parts are like the best thing about it, when it tries to be an actual castlevania it sucks ass.
>>
>>12066473
>the first two levels are also clearly the strongest part of the game
Absolutely not. The Greece level sucks.
>>
>>12064505
Depends on your taste, and honestly comparing the two isn't exactly fair.
SC4 is a slower game. The colors are drearier, music is not as energetic, and the difficulty is a bit on the more mild side (though the latter half can still catch you off guard if you're not careful). It really wants you to get immersed in the atmosphere and feel like you're traveling the haunted countryside to Drac's Castle.
Bloodlines is much faster-paced and not as long. It's much more colorful, effects are flashier, enemies and bosses are far more aggressive, and much punchier sounds and music.
4 wants you to experience it, like a good Silent-era horror film. Bloodlines wants you to master it with multiple characters and difficulty options.
>>
>>12067041
>and much punchier sounds
Really? One of the things I didn't like about Bloodlines much was precisely the sound effects. Weak whip sound which is one of the most important sounds in CV. It sounds very low energy and mute here.
Music is great.

MIDI is not a sound, Rondo mostly uses synths, and Dracula X is better arranged anyways.

SNES drone delusion. Imagine thinking you're muffled bathroom simulator is even remotely close to a properly mixed CD audio soundtrack. It sounds like shit and everybody knows this. Being a SNES fan needs to be studied as a mental illness.
>>
>>12067321
XX has amazing versions of Rondo tracks.
>>
>>12067793
NTA but arrangement (which is what he's addressing) is independent of sound quality.
it seems more like you're an adamant Nintendo hater rather than him being a SNES fan
>>
>>12067026
The water level you mean? That is clearly the best level and song in the game. I stand by my original post of the first two levels being the strongest part of the entire game. The game also only has like 5 or 6 levels iirc. It really could have used 2 or 3 more levels with maybe some branching paths to mix things up for the two characters. So total could have been 12 or so levels total that you can see if you do multiple playthroughs using both characters. Its still a solid game though.
>>
>>12068070
>That is clearly the best level
Autoscrollers + a miniboss where the objective is to run back and forth between opposite ends of the screen for a minute + a few more minibosses with a similar strategy. Nuff said.
>>
>>12068172
>Autoscrollers
Its basically half the game though anon.
>>
>>12067793
>a properly mixed CD audio soundtrack.
Dracula X has better mixing than Rondo. Redbook or not, Rondo's Redbook sounds amateur and let's not even talk about the PSG songs, because even those sound real lazy in Tokimeki Memorial.
