What are your childhood memories of the Kingdom Hearts series?
the core users of the board don't have childhood memories of 6th gen consoles, OP, we have childhood memories of 3rd and 4th gen consoles.
>>12064825I borrowed it from my childhood friend who's house reeked of cigarettes and cat piss. I stuffed "clean linen" dryer sheets inside the the case to make it smell better. Now every time I smell that particular scent I think of the game
>>12064825it's kind of a painful memory
>>12064825Kingdom hearts I played as I was 13 going on 14 and it was a one of the best experiences. I had just played both ffvii and oot, so the action RPG plus ff characters really hit a sweet spot. I used to replay it every year, but the luster has worn off. Great memories though.
>>12064825I thought it was gay and people who played it were fagsI was right all along
>>12064825one or two screenshots in a magazine. Never played it and hearing how bad KH3 is makes me want to never touch the franchise so I can't be disappointed. Might be missing a good game who knows.
>>12064928I have bedded 30 women and I'm a KH fan
>>12064825I only remember reading a magazine back in '02 or '03, that had an article about the worlds and bosses, like Clayton and Oogie BoogieI honestly thought Sora was a girl, until my damn brother corrected me
>>12064934>oh no KH3 is badThe series gives you a kick in the nuts called Chain of Memories right after Kingdom Hearts 1. It's a garbage card game spin off but they put a ton of important plot details in it, enough that you'll be lost if you go right to KH2. It's not a kino series with a disappointing ending, there are plenty of other disappointments along the way.
>>12064825More like kingdom sharts
I never got into it, I want to give a shot.t. 40 year old.
>>12065141Very mature.
>>12064846So... are you saying that you breathe in the scent of cigarettes and cat piss on a regular basis?
>>12064825loved it. love the cover too
I played the demo of it before it came out, at a booth at Epcot.Unfortunately my parents wouldn't buy me any game systems. I didn't play it for 14+ years after that.
>>12064825the commercial which caught my ear and attention every time it came on. I didn't play the actual game until I was an adultWHEN YOU WALK AWAY
>>12064825I've never completed any of the games. I tried playing the first one and thought it was too childish. Hard to tell what age demographic the game developers were trying to reach. I've never been a big fan of Disney movies.
>>12064825Mum brought it home for me one day as a rental when i was around 10, and at first i thought i wouldn't like it but once i started playing it i fell in love with the game.A good friend of mine growing up also gifted me a copy of KH2; I still have that disc. I have a memory of playing KH2 in my parents bedroom on the CRT while waiting for a friend to come over and hang out. I also have a memory of picking up the KH2 strategy guide while on holiday from a Toys R us, which was a bit special because my hometown didn't have a Toys R us or anything like it really. Good times.
>>12064846>Smell cigarettes and cat piss>"SIMPLE AND CLEAN IS THE WAY THAT YOU'RE MAKING ME FEEL TONIGHT"
>>12064825my cousin playing the ever loving fuck out of it getting stuck in traverse town and wild jungle for like hours.also getting kingdom hearts 2 for chrismas and being confused as fuck.
>>12065223Not the stinky smell, the clean linen dryer sheets
running around looking for mystery goo
I tried to get into it. After 2-3 hours I just decided that meh, I don't see what's so great about this game and dropped it.
>>12064940Nice e stats faggot
>>12064825Made me really sad and developed a painful obsessive crush on Kairi.
>>12064825Let's seeSomewhere in 2002-2003 I visited some random small videogame store with my parents that had those tall rotating plastic videogame caseholders, one had a bunch of XBox games and other had a bunch of PS2 games. I remember checking them and finding Oddworld's Munch Oddysee (was a big fan of PS1 games and was sad to learn from some game magazine that it's XBox exclusive), and then I saw KH1 and said something "Wow, Final Fantasy with Donald and Goofy made by Squaresoft? Sounds as crazy as American McGee's Alice, really wish I could play it."Then later on (should be somewhere in 2003-2004) I got another game magazine that had an entire walkthrough of KH1 and I was mesmerized by stuff being mentioned there (as well as in-game screenshots) - travelling between worlds on spaceship, Alice in Wonderland, Hercules, Agrabah, Nightmare Before Christmas, Winnie the Pooh, a ton of FF character from VII to X and its own OCs... how the hell does all of this work together? I think I re-read that walkthrough like 20-30 times during that year.Near the end of 2005 I got fiber internet connection instead of dial-up and was able to download a bunch of emulators and ROMs (as well as bunch of anime, software, etc.) from my ISP's local file hosting, and that included KH CoM. The walkthrough I read before didn't really explain KH1's plot in details so I was REALLY confused by the story, and eventually I dropped the game right before Riku Replica 4 (I also spent at least one hour fighting Darkside because I was retarded and spammed sleights like crazy, so I was left with like 3 cards per deck reload and it was an awful fight because Darkside had TON of HP and was vulnerable for a short amount of time).
>>12065632Then near the end of 2006 I saw a KH mashup of Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny on Youtube (I don't think the very one I saw is still available - it should be 18-19 years old by now and I can clearly remember some moments from it, none of which are present in other currently available mashups), and I rewatched it way too many times, which eventually motvated me to pick up CoM again from where I left it and finish it. Eventually I did but holy hell Marluxia's second fight was even longer than Darkside. Finally, in March 2007 my parents bought me a PS2, and a few weeks later I got both KH1 and KH2. I guess my CRT was really old though, because it could easily run PS1 games with no issues but many PS2 games worked only in black and white (I guess it has something to do with refresh rate, because I remember Onimusha 2 having several Hz settings and one of them ended up in black and white while the other setting ended with your normal color palette) and both KH games were no exception. Needless to say, this made my first KH1 playthrough even more confusing (especially since that one magazine with walkthrough I had somehow disappeared by 2007) - I think I've spent hours on Destiny Islands finding those three fucking mushrooms (it was hard to spot them in black and white colors), then Trinity Marks kept confusing me because I had no way to distinguish them, then boss fights were a bit confusing because HP bar looked the same, then other color-coded stuff like shells in Atlantica and "green door" in Halloween Town kept confusing me. But I still played it before and after school (I was 14yo at the time) because it was so goddamn fun and I think I 100% in a week (Phantom was the worst).Funny enough, I started KH2 right after that and had some fun with Roxas' prologue... but by the time I got to Land of Dragons I realized that KH2 is nowhere near as fun as KH1. At least a month or two I burned KH2FM on DVD disc and got some fun with new bosses.
>>12065029the series doesn't even have an ending in the first place, they're going to milk this until it stops meeting sales targets and then it'll end abruptly with no ending
>>12065653no proper ending to the story*
>>12065147Never too late. I would recommend the Final Mix version because it has some extra optional bosses that are a lot of fun. Play on Proud Mode and you'll get a challenge.
>>12064825None because I was an adult you fucking millenoomer.>>12064837I have Colecovision memories you fucking "numeric generation" baby.
>>12065801Why are you so angry?
>>12065791KH1FM added only one new boss (Unknown Man), thoughWell, if you've played vanilla EN version, that is - JP never got Kurt Zisa, Ice Titan and Sephiroth until FM.What FM really improves on are skill trees - Sword is no longer trash because game adds a ton of fun combat abilities (in vanilla you're stuck with whatever Combat Pluses, okay Blitz and shitty Vortex, but in FM you get Sliding Dash on Level 4 and that's already better than anything you'd get from vanilla combat abilities) and Wand is no longer so broken (both MP Rage and MP Haste got nerfed, Goofy's MP Gift was nerfed, Goofy's Dream Shield was nerfed and outside of new finisher that scales off MP this skill route didn't really get much) and overall there are more QoL abilities (Leaf Bracer, Encounter Plus, etc.)
>>12064825Gooning to Kairi
>>12064852kind of a vague post
>>12065632>>12065634
dropped it around the Tarzan area, not sure why, it just seemed like the rhythm was off somehow.
>>12066037Oh, sorry, I guess I should've wrote a post as long as your average tweet instead so you could manage to read it
>>12064825The part when it was over
>>12065815OP reminded him how old he is
>>12066018it reminds me of the Cringe Times of Growing Up
>>12064825Even the girls were playing this game. We would all talk about it in the bus ride home. Loved Tarzan and Nightmare Before Christmas worlds. My friend got all the Dalmatians and we watched the Rikku ending together. I spent so much fucking time in the Arena trying to beat Sephiroth and never did. This game tugged at my childhood heartstrings and made me feel emotions. Do you remember emotions anon?
>>12064825Even back then I knew it was kinda shitty, but I still loved it
>>12064825Played it as a kid and thought man this combat sucks.Played it as an adult and the combat still sucks plus the story is mega cringe.
>>12065870Rod is still goated in FM, since it gives you Hurricane Blast so early.
this game fails to give me nostalgia other than when dearly beloved is playing
>>12068031>9 levels earlier than SwordIt's okay, I guessStill, in FM Rod is no longer the only way to go (unlike vanilla where it's either Shield if you suck at ARPGs or Rod if you don't suck at ARPGs) because magic builds are no longer so busted AND Sword is actually a viable choice now with fun abilities for your playthrough.>>12068042I fucking hate the lack of waves in KH1FM's menuhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuv0wYHXYy4Vanilla menu with Dearly Beloved and the sound of waves was perfect
>>12064825Best PS2 game imo. I try to think back and this game keeps popping into my mind as peak PS2 experience. Other games I would put up there would be KH2 of course, FFX, DMC3, all the GTA games, Dynasty Warriors, MGS 2 and 3, Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4 among many other great games. But the first KH stands to me as the peak of PS2 and my formative years. Also almost forgot to list Shadow of the Colossus. This game is without a doubt a top PS game. Its at least Sony's greatest first party exclusive they ever shat out. The company doesn't have many truly great exclusive games that can rightfully claim to be exclusive but SOTC stands as one of the greatest games ever made imo so it would probably be my number 2 pick. Only because KH1 is more replayable and nostalgic do I put it above SOTC.
>>12065801you got me, i was 2 when i played my dad's colecovison and don't have memories of it
>>120648251 being great and 2 being kamikazeed with japanese fluff mechanics and convoluted story cause they just cant leave shit alone. If it works, improve on it slightly.
