That fucking final dungeon was both stressful and tiresome at the same time, unironically what were they thinking? But overall I think I enjoyed this game more than 1 and 2, do you guys like FF3? I feel like if they had made the fourth one for the NES/FC it would've been great, I've heard that 5 is sort of like 3 but better but it's a SNES game. I'm playing the series for the first time and so far the games are certainly charming but I wouldn't call them amazing. They are also pretty damn hard compared to the first four DQ games in my opinion. I'll be giving 4 a go next

>unironically what were they thinking?
it builds to it throughout the game, its one last challenge. Its hard but its fine if you die just go again.
>do you guys like FF3
yes
>I feel like if they had made the fourth one for the NES/FC it would've been great
huh
>They are also pretty damn hard compared to the first four DQ games in my opinion
DQ2 and FF3 are the hardest of the FC games. Then maybe FF2.

>huh
I mean like learning from their mistakes and making one last game for the console, FF3 is a very good 8 bit RPG but there are some absolutely annoying things in it like the game forcing you to use certain jobs to progress (that cave with the splitting enemies was the worst) and I think the game would've been better off without things like that. Maybe I think FF4 for the NES would've been a masterpiece because DQ4 is my favorite DQ game and with FF I also feel like the series kept getting better with each new installment, yeah I liked 2 more than 1
>DQ2 and FF3 are the hardest of the FC games. Then maybe FF2.
True

I really like class based games, they work so smoothly with JRPGs. I think FF5 is my favorite game for a lot of reasons.

3 honestly the remake improved it, I just don't like the need to swap classes before level up.

4 is more streamlined, and wonderful story, it's not a debated game everyone loves it, for a reason. Same with 6.

Did you not play the first game?

I really don't think that final dungeon is any worse than the one in FF2 or FF4. In fact, it's been memed so much as being LE BRUTAL that you should have a bit of a heads-up. You know, an advantage of some sort.
>>
>>12065048
Yeah I've heard that 4 and 6 are the favorites of many
>>12065285
Played all three

> the one in FF2 or FF4
Wait FF4 also has something similar to Jade Passage + Pandemonium / Crystal Tower + World of Darkness?? I've heard that 4 is pretty chill compared to the first three games. And honestly FF2's final dungeon is not that bad once you realise that you can run away from 99% of encounters if your characters have maxed out evasion % which they usually do by the end of the game. In FF3 you can't run away at all, even if we forget about the infamous bug that shit just doesn't work for some reason, my guys just refused to run away
> In fact, it's been memed so much as being LE BRUTAL that you should have a bit of a heads-up
Yes, that always helps, the only thing I didn't know about is that Xande and the crystal guardians hit like a fucking truck, I was honestly doing pretty well against regular random encounters, I felt overpowered even, but then you get to Ahriman or that yellow dragon and they certainly don't fuck around. Cloud of Darkness was honestly easier
>>
>reach the bottom of Eureka
>can't warp
>to reach your ship you have to go back through the ancients' maze as well
At least they were generous enough to put a recovery spring down there. I agree that there are parts of this game that feel like they were designed to be as annoying as possible
>>
The final dungeon itself is cool, it's the bosses that suck. I hate 'stat check' offensive spells because there's barely any strategy involved when your entire party gets hit by a 3k offensive spell. At least Nasir programmed them not to cast shit like Meteo two times in a row but then there's the final boss who does just that and you just have to heal through this shit and pray you kill the thing with shurikens before it kills you
>>
>>12064997
Really, DQ2? I thought it was pretty chill until Cave to Rhone, maybe with a slight difficulty spike on the sea encounters, after getting the ship.
>>

FF3 is also piss easy before the final dungeon, except Cave of Shadows maybe and there's nothing in both DQ2 and FF3 that grinding can't fix. I'd say that FF2 is the most consistently hard out of all the DQ and FF games, most of its dungeons are really challenging and I've genuinely never felt overpowered in that game despite grinding spells and MP like crazy, I felt like I was barely scraping by for the entirety of the game, the final boss is really easy if your fighters have bloodswords though
>>
>>12065673
FF2 is also hard on the account of trap rooms in pretty much every dungeon. I hesitate to call it "artificial difficulty" but it's definitely painful to replay the game without maps. I never beat the game, farthest I reached was Finn reconquest.

What made you give up? You were like 3/4 into the game

I know I was some ways into the game but my experience of the leveling system was rather bad, and I did not care for things like strategically casting spells once per battle to maximize their growth. I retract what I said, the whole game feels artificial and "gamey", there's nothing organic about that weird system where playing without any guides you just get your ass kicked in every encounter.

I don't get what job levels in this game even do, everyone says they are important, I got my Ninjas and Sages to level 20 and I was still doing the same amount of damage/healing the same amount of HP as when all of them were level 1
>>
>>12065941
Yeah grinding spells is probably the worst part of the game, I was using Fire in literally every random encounter for almost 30 hours
>>
>>12064943
Wow that's cool how it came in an ivory colored cartridge, kinda looks like a bar of soap.

Ah so that's why so many FF games have a white box art.

Any hardcore FF3fag can tell if any of those monster sprites are non final?

The higher your job levels the less JP is costs to switch back into the job.

>>12066174
Yeah, that I've realised
