I liked it back in the day but only for a play every once in awhile. Anons saying it was never good or know nothing ecelbs putting in their top Genesis games list are both wrong. It deserves its spot in gaming history but that's about it.

>>12065121I feel like people misunderstand Altered Beast's place in the vidya continuum because technically it is a 16-bit game and it gets mogged so brutally by other games of that era. But despite it being part of the Genesis / SNES era it was the very very beginning of that timeline Its direct comparisons were not Final Fight or Strider. When it came out its main competition was the original NES and while it lacked the complex gameplay of a lot of the later NES titles it completely blew all of them out of the water visually. And that was the point. Instead of making some bastardized or clearly downgraded home port it was amazingly close to the arcade and that was impressive as fuck for what was most people's first game ever played on a 16-bit system.

>>12068591Considering the game is like 15 minutes long and only 5 levels this actually wouldn't be as long as one may think. 60 levels would equal to about an hours worth of time. So 200 levels would be under 4 hours long. I do think its reasonably realistic this game could have given 20+ levels for its day though with probably more unique transformations. Its a pretty solid port all things considered when you stack it to the rest of the ports.
